Finally, a place for them to show their greatness.

I read (or thought I read) that the English entry is given to the winners of the League Cup?

If so, they've got no chance of getting in that either.

Will hamper those mid table clubs even more as their squads are stretched c.f. Burnley last year, Wolves this year.

Just read the qualification standards.

It says the winner of the league Cup (esy enough), or (presumably if the winner of that is already in European competition) 5th or 6th league place.

So does this mean UEFA are regarding this as ahead of the Europa league, cos we can have a minimum of 4 & maximum of 5 teams in the CL?

An awful decision. I'm guessing though that it would mean that the Europa league will be in a lesser format than today.

I'm all down for the return of the Champions League + UEFA Cup + Cup winner cup format.

Enjoyed those times much more than this Europa League mess, even though that probably has more to do with me being young and still able to find excitement in life back then

I wouldn't even need the fucking CL.

Bring back the good old European Cup.

It designed for teams from the smaller leagues across europe

Only 5 teams initially from the top 5 league will represent..

However those who fail to qualify for the Europa league group stage will also be placed into this competition.. either in the playoffs or into the group stage.. depends on what stage they failed to qualify

those who finished 3rd in their Europa league group will also drop down into this competition, the Europa league group stage will be decreased to consist of 8 groups of 4.. 32 teams, as will this competition.. You will probably find the Europa league being more competitive as a result...

League cup is the lowest ranked qualifying process.. so those who have qualified to europe by any other means it will then go to the next available league position... so unlike last season.. a team finishing 7 will qualify for this rather than the Europa league

Be great for scouting players too. I think..

I think its a great Idea to be fair for those smaller leagues... give them a chance to be competitive in Europe and raise their profile.....
