European midweek games.

I was reading through RedCafe (ran out of topics to read here), and the discussion was Klopp's contract. This was some (Germany-based I think) poster's reply on the chances of Klopp taking the job at the Mancs if offered. I thought it was pretty interesting:

You know what Klopp did in 2003, when he narrowly missed (one goal difference) going up to the Bundesliga with Mainz and had multiple offers by Bundesliga clubs? He stayed for another five (!) years. You know what he did in the last summer, when he was the top candidate for Chelsea and Real Madrid? He extended his already long contract, which is actually a pretty big deal for him, because he honors contracts more than most in this business. He did that at a time when the third player he turned into a super star left and the fourth was already certain to follow next summer.

If his frustration about losing key players should be the main reason for him to leave Dortmund, then why is he still there? This is hardly a new development and also nothing he did not expect. Why not simply move up in the food chain by joining an European elite club?

I can tell you the reason. Because he wants to turn Dortmund into an European elite club himself and is so emotionally invested in this club, that he is willing to take the hard road to archive that. This is his vision of his project Borussia Dortmund. A vision that was according to himself halfway done when they won the Double in 2012, a vision that became clearer when they reached the CL final last year, but ultimatively he is not finished yet.

There are two possible ways he will leave Dortmund. Either by archiving his expected goal or by realizing that he can´t take the club further. This time is not nowhere near here yet. This may be 2018, maybe later, but not sooner, because it would contradict a lot of things the man Jürgen Klopp stands for. A lot of people who bring up Klopp as United´s next coach only see the exceptional things he has done with Dortmund, but don´t bother to look at the person behind the success. Him abandoning Dortmund now would be extremely out of character for him. If he wanted to leave he simply would do so when his contract runs out. He would not do so after renewing his contract again and giving the supporters false hope with his speeches.

I´m certain that he will leave at one point, because I think he wants to have one more challenge in his career. Either as national coach or outside of Germany.

That is an interesting read.

I wonder who they will end up with?

If you discount Guardiola and Mourinho who seem comfortable where they are, that leaves them with the choice between a short-term experienced candidate like Van Gaal or a go-for-broke punt on a young manager.

Simeone never seems to get much of a mention but what he's done at A.Madrid is incredible and he is right up there for me.

De Boer is another that seems to be making a name for himself but from the media talk it seems that he might prefer a stepping stone type club first.

And then there is always Moyes successor at Everton, heh. That would be rather amusing.

I think they'll stick with Moyes for the time being though. It feels like they're in a position where sacking him represent quite a loss of face so they'd rather wait it out.

Man Utd controversy - season ticket holders are being told if they don't buy a ticket for the game v Olympiakos they'll be suspended from attending the Manchester derby 6 days later. Bet Utd fans are not happy about that

This is getting a fair bit of press coverage already - I still can't believe how much turmoil the club has entered due to Fergie leaving - It's brilliant.

Blimey. Is that even legal?

Yep. It's in the terms of the contract when they sign up for the season ticket that they have to buy tickets for Cup matches.

I don't think they've ever had to write the letter threatening it before.

Massive own goal by the pr team. Should have said to season ticket holders prices are reduced by 25% & then the day before reduced any remaining tickets enough to let kids & younger supporters in, getting some good press.

Instead they're being laughed at & castigated.

Actually, are we letting them use our pr office?

Without anaesthetic. :vamp:

Real are 4-0 up away from home.

Imagine if utd had been drawn against them instead of the Greeks.

This really should have it's own Caption thread !

Moyes : What do we do lads ? I haven't any ideas myself but we're getting beat again and look utterly clueless.
Neville : Hmmm, errr, push Rio & Vidic into the box to get on the end of some crosses ?
Giggs : Errr, hmmm, I really think we need to put more crosses in Boss. Can't we get Valencia, Nani, Welbeck and Young all on the pitch at the same time ?

The problem is that United played at a pace only slightly faster than flows of molten lava, particularly in the first 45 minutes. Every pass that wasn’t mis-hit -- and there were plenty of those -- seemed telegraphed and in slow-motion.

Hahahahaha !

If anyone's not seen it, check out Huntelaars goal in the mauling from last night - Class finish.
