My guess is that he mastered his own downfall with his stubbornness, and blamed others for the squad being weak when he squandered money.

Combine it with managing Chelsea.

Perhaps people have become overly critical because others are overly complimentary

As with all truths, the answer lies in between the two camps

Yes sensei.

Quoted for truth

True ...

Though Modo - as with many of his 'favorites' - tends to gloss over Rafa's faults ... Though I 100% agree with his post where we're benefiting from what Rafa did here (the youth set up).

That being said - his failure (and it is) at Napoli should highlight why so many of us were dead set against him returning to Liverpool.

What?

They are likely to finish 3rd and have a chance of a trophy in the Italian Cup final, how can that be classed as a failure?

It's kinda' interesting for them in the league. At first glance, one would think Napoli are nailed on to finish at least 3rd, since they have a 10-point gap to Fiorentina in fourth, and just a 3-point gap to Roma in second (Roma have a game in hand). But then, looking at their respective fixtures, it doesn't seem so easy anymore.

Napoli still have to play Fiorentina (in 3 days' time), Juve, Inter (5th) and Parma (6th with a game in hand - they could overtake Fiorentina by a point if they win that one). Of the remaining 10 games, they play 4 times against top 6 opponents, both the 7th and 8th teams, and 4 clubs in the bottom half of the table.

In contrast, Fiorentina play just Roma and Napoli in the top 6, one other club in the top eight, and then 7 clubs in the bottom half of the table.

It's going to be a tough stretch for Napoli from here on, starting with the crucial game against Fiorentina.

They spent a lot of money last summer, got dumped out of the CL at the group stage, out of the Europa to Porto, and in a worse position in the league.

But I'm sure the club are delighted at being in a cup final nobody cares about.

Go Rafa!

Ross's magic rule of managerial irrelevance: they make no difference, except in extreme circumstances, or if they're particularly good, or particularly bad, or somewhat worse than the average of their rivals, or somewhat better.

It makes us think.

hahahaha

He's right though, managers only make a difference if they're different.

Did Rafa and Suarez spit roast your missus or something? surely you cant be serious with the utter drivel you type about them?

Napoli have won one trophy in quater of a century, if they win the Coppa Italia and qualify for the CL then it would have been a majorly successful season for them, sorry but only a complete moron would think otherwise, even if they don't win the cup it would have still been a decent first season, certainly not a failure.

Yes he has failed in Europe with them this season, in reality hes not going to make finals and win European trophies every year.

All you're doing is showing you're ludicrous bias if you think any of the truths posted above are drivel.

Mate I can't take you seriously when you are so biased and agenda driven yourself. I'll never understand how you denigrate the man who gave you the best night of your life.

Best night of my life?

My life isn't bad enough for that to be the best night of my life.

Nobody is denigrating him in this thread, just pointing out that Napoli are a bit worse this year and the reason for his appointment didn't go to plan.

And which you oft do with relish!

I denigrate every manager, because people give them way too much credit. And often for things they have little control over.

Like Suarez's goal scoring this year - that's all on him. If it was because of Rodgers then we'd need an explanation as to why he's gone from more than a goal a game to back to a one in two ratio since the turn of the year.
