The following is an old thread I created on RAWK and on Koptalk I think. Just stumbled upon it. Thought it would be a good comparison to how it was before Benitez and after.

Youth options?
« on: August 1, 2005, 03:53:17 PM »

(First post for me here, be easy on me. Kind of a regular poster on a another fan site, though.)
A list of prospering youth players:

At least they got Diaby right

Personally I think Matthew Fryatt might be an option. Thank good we stayed away from that train wreck

I noticed something interesting about the England youth internationals.
Well, there are only three Liverpool based players!!!

Carson
Welsh
Peltier

Take in to account that Carson was bought from Leeds.
Oh, why wasn't Peltier part of the league cup team?
I mean if he's good enough for the national team he should be good enough to play with the reserves especially when Raven isn't an England international.

What the h*ll is going on at the academy?

List of capped players and players training with the first team:

Martin Kelly (Whiston) - Already there I guess. Scored in his first game for the U21s.
Jay Spearing (Wallasey) - Don't think he's good enough.
Jonjo Shelvey (Romford, London) - Jury is still out, looks bright, currently in the U19 squad.
Stephen Darby (Liverpool) - Decent player but I think the emergence of Kelly killed his chances.
Steven Irwin (Liverpool) - Haven't seen enough of him
Nathan Eccleston (Newton Heath, Manchester) - Very quick can play on either side of the wing and up front.
Thomas Ince (Stockport, Manchester) - Technically gifted, pacy, left footed. Future looking bright.
David Amoo (London) - Striker/winger, also quick, but he's like a younger version of Djibs.
Jack Robinson (Warrington, Cheshire) - Used to be a regular fixture in the U17, hasn't played there for a while.
Andre Wisdom (Leeds) - Big strong defender, prominent in the u17 Euro win currently playing for the U19s
Michael Ngoo (London) - U19
Conor Coady (Liverpool) - Won the U17 Euro championship together with Wisdom, not selected for U19, U17.
Raheem Sterling (Kingston, Jamaica) - 15 years old and starting for the U17 team. Set up a goal for them recently.
Matthew Regan (Liverpool) - Scored in the recent U17 game assisted Sterling.
Adam Morgan (Liverpool) - U17

A question to the experts on this board, who do you think will progress and play regular first team football?

Re: English youth players 2005 and today

That is very odd. He captained them to win the Euro under 17s a couple of months ago.

Re: English youth players 2005 and today

Kelly and Shelvey first. I think Wisdom and Coady look really good too.

Robinsons's an interesting one to keep an eye on too I guess.

Martin Kelly (Whiston) - Already there I guess. Scored in his first game for the U21s. agree
Jay Spearing (Wallasey) - Don't think he's good enough.
Jonjo Shelvey (Romford, London) - Jury is still out, looks bright, currently in the U19 squad. Looks good enough
Stephen Darby (Liverpool) - Decent player but I think the emergence of Kelly killed his chances. Was the man most likely for a while, think it has now passed him by
Steven Irwin (Liverpool) - Haven't seen enough of him ditto
Nathan Eccleston (Newton Heath, Manchester) - Very quick can play on either side of the wing and up front. Needs a chance, could do iy
Thomas Ince (Stockport, Manchester) - Technically gifted, pacy, left footed. Future looking bright Agree, needs a game or two.
David Amoo (London) - Striker/winger, also quick, but he's like a younger version of Djibs. With lace pace, but more brain...could do it
Jack Robinson (Warrington, Cheshire) - Used to be a regular fixture in the U17, hasn't played there for a while. Don't know
Andre Wisdom (Leeds) - Big strong defender, prominent in the u17 Euro win currently playing for the U19s Don't know
Michael Ngoo (London) - U19 Don't know but sounds far too much like N'gog
Conor Coady (Liverpool) - Won the U17 Euro championship together with Wisdom, not selected for U19, U17. don't know
Raheem Sterling (Kingston, Jamaica) - 15 years old and starting for the U17 team. Set up a goal for them recently. this lad is an audacious talent , could make it under Roy, never would under Rafa
Matthew Regan (Liverpool) - Scored in the recent U17 game assisted Sterling. Don't know
Adam Morgan (Liverpool) - U17 Don't know

Martin Kelly (Whiston) - I called this one quite early. I'd be surprised if he doesn't make it in the Premiership.
Jay Spearing (Wallasey) - Decent little player, but will probably end up dropping down to the Championship.
Jonjo Shelvey (Romford, London) - Unless we have any closet Charlton fans around, it's hard to say based on a few pre-season appearances, but early signs look promising.
Stephen Darby (Liverpool) - Never rated him and he'll probably end up in the lower leagues. Championship at best.
Steven Irwin (Liverpool) - Another decent little player, but hard to see him making it here.
Nathan Eccleston (Newton Heath, Manchester) - Would be nice to see him develop as he seems to have the raw qualities to be a good attacker, but don't really see it happening.
Thomas Ince (Stockport, Manchester) - Clearly talented, so this will be a big year for him in the reserves. Needs to step up. Haven't really seen enough of him.
David Amoo (London) - Never really thought he'd make it. Fantastic athlete, but not sure he's got the footballing ability to make it at the top level.
Jack Robinson (Warrington, Cheshire) - Very promising. Haven't seen enough of him. Would be wonderful to get a top LB out of the youth system.

Zlatan seems to know Irwin's shit, which is a bit odd considering no one else seems to know much about him.

The kid is 20 in a month and has not even come close to playing even 1 minute for us. Obviously there is a reason he hasnt played even in the pre seasons. He will most likely be released and signed by some league 2 team when his contract is up.

I havent seen much of him at all, but by now he should'v atleast had an appearance or 2 if he was even abit decent.
