The thing I like best about the signing is the pace and athleticism he'll bring to our midfield, something I think we lacked last season.
That's pretty much were I stand, his videos weren't impressive at all, so I've yet to be convinced. When people talk about his qualities and his versatility comes out time and time again as his best asset, the warning bells begin to reverberate. Germany have in recent years been placing their trust in youth and he's not even had a cap yet. But let's hope he's been well scouted and my initial judgement is wrong (In Rodgers We Trust). He has been schooled the Bayern Munich way and that fact that Leverkusen`s sporting director (I think) was pissed, should reassure us. If it's a case of buying for the future, I'd prefer we utilised Rossiter, who seems a far better prospect and hasn't looked out of place at every level he's stepped up to. And with the £10m bought a 25 or 26 year old who is currently much better than we already have or went all out and recruited a prodigious talent like Pogba.
Emre Can is “average” and “won’t improve Liverpool” according to Jan Aage Fjortoft, the former Premier League striker turned German TV pundit has been telling Sky Sports News Radio Can is a poor signing by Brendan Rodgers.
I think Torres was a bit more than a 'decent prospect' when we signed him tbf.
Ok but he hadn't hit world class yet. The trick is to get them before they explode the talent into someone else's hands
Looking at Germanys midfield, I dont think I'll hold it against him that he hasnt got an international cap yet.
The kid just turned 20. And he has some evidently outstanding attributes - a great physique, pace and good technique to boot. What's not to like?
He's hardly going to be the finished article - this is a Henderson and Coutinho type signing - a young player with vast potential. And we've got him for just 9.5 million. Given Rodgers ability to develop youngsters, we could have a gem on our hands in 2 years time.
Especially because CM is not a position stocked with much talent across Europe at the moment.
that's all good and i'm with you, but BR said the benchmark this year was quality which would add to the first XI this year. Let's hope our future transfers meet the test.
Torres himself has publicly acknowledged the part that Stevie G played in his, er, explosion on to the scene with us. TBF Rafa clearly had that combo in mind.
I'm sure people probably scratched their heads when we went for Coutinho. The fee and his profile didn't suggest much, I don't know why you get so irritated that we're not in for players like Willian, Mata and now Fabregas, it's fairly obvious there's still a few types of player we just can't sway (we rarely have been at the top of the market, ever). Money, London, Mourinho, sustained success, etc.. we've still been more active than anyone.
I think this is the straw that broke the camels back. I'm putting you on ignore. I can't believe you aren't happy with this window so far. We're two weeks in. 1 talented youngster, 1 shrewd experienced signing. Supposedly, we have Moreno in the bag. We may make two marquee signings now. Patience.I don't recall being a massive fan of wanting Mata of Fabregas.
Coutinho is a different kettle of fish. When we signed him, BR hadn't come out stating he was going for quality additions and it was clear we needed to be patient.
I'm just considering things in light of what BR has said, our limited funds compared to others and an observation that we don't need wholesale changes but 2 really quality players.
Can could turn out to be very good, and I hpoe he does, but his profile doesn't suggest someone who is capable of coming in and starting in the first XI of a title challenging team.
Great ball by Hendo
To put things in perspective, he's played 30 less league games than Sterling in his career thus far.
