What's the feeling on the over? A meireles standard decent signing?

a lot younger though so obviously a lot of potential for improvement.

When Meireles left us he hit a crisis of confidence i think. Went all hipster Scrooobius Pip looking

I don't remember seeing this guy in a game ever, but I just feel good about this signing ... Something tells me Bayern will be buying him back for triple this fee in 2-4 years.

Speaking of Lucas, what the feckitty feck is THIS all about??

I don't know much about Can and haven't fully followed this deal.

Is he likely to be a Lucas type replacement to rotate in the midfield or is he more of a more experienced future player taking Rossiter's role of stepping in if required?

Played at left back against Dortmund:

Played in Gerrard's current position against Augsburg and Hertha Berlin:

Liverpool & Emre Can: Daylight Robbery

http://thepremierleagueowl.com/liver...light-robbery/

Emre Can, as we’ve known for some time now, is heading for Liverpool and the fee involved is absolutely scandalous. Really, whoever it was at Leverkusen who sanctioned such a low release-clause 12 months ago should be in fear of their job – think of what £10m buys a club in the British market and remember that when you watch Can play next season.

Not to retread old ground, because I’ve written about Can before, but – beyond the fee – the value in this move is really in the player’s positional adaptability. The German has a very transferable skill-set and has a range of attributes which are useful in several different areas of the pitch – in fact, this season alone he’s been used as a central and defensive-midfielder, as a left-back, and – apparently – once as a centre-back.

I’ve only seen him play in the middle of the pitch, so I’m not in a position to comment on what his strongest role really is. However, this is a very modern player who can create opportunities, who can score goals, who can take the ball away from the opposition, and whose game is underpinned by really accomplished technique – and it’s presumably that range of abilities which makes him a viable option in more than one position.

In some ways, this is actually a perfect transfer for Liverpool; not only is Can a young player who will unquestionably develop, but he’s also a credible first-teamer who adds depth to several of the weaker areas in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

There’s absolutely nothing to dislike about this deal, great business.

It was on the offal, JJ ;-)

Understood, but my info.about the pronunciation of that letter "c" is from a Turkish friend of mine (who also lives and works in Germany, where there's a large and long-standing Turkish community). He told me this some years ago, but I'd be surprised if things have changed since.

Can's arrival, which will not be confirmed until July 1 because of the formalities of international paperwork although Press Association Sport understands he has already signed a contract, has at least been wrapped up fairly quickly.
Once the release fee was met there was the matter of a buy-back clause Bayern Munich inserted into the deal which took the 20-year-old to Leverkusen for £4.4million 12 months ago and it is reported the Bavarian club will earn £1.2million in compensation as a result.
In a short statement, Liverpool said: "Liverpool have today agreed a deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen to sign 20-year-old Emre Can, subject to documentation being completed."
Leverkusen chief executive Michael Schade, in confirming Can's departure, said the club were powerless to keep the player once Liverpool had come up with the correct fee.
"Emre Can has developed very quickly at Bayer 04 Leverkusen over the past twelve months," he told the club's website.
"We wanted to keep Emre at Leverkusen but the release clause is part of his contract.
"So we wish him all the best and lots of success in his time in the Premier League."

I have no idea what to make of this deal. we've spent 10m and its unclear whether he is good enough to challenge for the first team straight away, on the other hand we could have a wunderkid on our hands. Wish him all the best.

He's very highly rated I don't follow German football that much only watch the bigger games. Asked a friend whose a Schalke fan about him, said that he has a lot of potential. Top class potential.

v. reassuring, i just hope the potential can be realised this year.

I really like this signing. After Rummenigges comments I feel even better.

What did he say (in case you didn't understand count's language)?

I talked to mate who's a big bundesliga fan ... He says the kid can be a star ... Here's hoping we've hit the jackpot.
