Does any good player want to join us ?

It won't. I said it from the start that we'll never win the title under FSG. They don't understand football, and more importantly don't have the money required.

I hope they don't think their original moneyball ideas - in which they were simply so much smarter than most other football owners and would win by being clever - have somehow been vindicated by Leicester's fluke, but I have my doubts.

We've got the best manager in charge since Benitez arrived, and I fear we will be struggling to get near the Top 4 again.

I suggest anyone who uses the 'phrase' moneyball in relation to us reads (or rereads) Moneyball. The Red Sox haven't used moneyball for years. It went when Ben Cherington left at GM. There is no such thing as moneyball in football. It's a myth.

It was a catch-all phrase I used to clarify what FSG's business model is in relation to football. Sabremetrics. Moneyball. Not spending enough to ever win the title.

Call it what you want.

We cut Suarez, Gerrard and Johnson from our wage bill I bet we can fit at least one world class salary in there.

Didn't we spend about as much money as Man U on transfers last summer?

No. And we didn't spend as much as them the summer before that either, as they spent £150m.

The majority of our spending under FSG has been funded by the sale of our best players, last summer Sterling, before that Suarez.

We will sign a top CM and have already signed a top CB and a highly regarded CM and GK.

Im pretty sure we will also sell Balo and Benteke and bring in a top strriker.

I urge you to think of all these players people are fawning over now who we never heard of a year ago.

We need to find those guys, we dont need to sign Higuain and Gotze.

I dunno man. Theres players selling around Europe now for 30m (like the kid from Benfica) who no one really knew a year ago.
This time last year everyone wanted Lacazette and Depay.

I just hope we are signing players who are great, I dont mind if I heard of them or not.

That said ive hardly heard of anyone anymore because football is shit and I dont watch it except for when we play.

Oh but I want that Ajax midfielder whose name escapes me......or maybe he is PSV

Fuck.

Can't spend it if you don't have it. Nothing to do with a 'model' of running a club.
John Henry lost a massive chunk of his fortune almost overnight. He had to trim his cloth accordingly. No sugar daddy I'm afraid.

He's boss. Good to know he's on the list.
Hes the kind of player I hope we sign.
Because next year its too late to get guys like him.
To be fair we did it with Can and Origi so hopefully we can keep up that trend.

And if we buy another Can and Origi, what would your expectations be?
Same as every year. We win the title!!!
*rattles sabre*

Im honestly too old and cynical to think we can do it now. We COULD go and outspend everyone and buy Gotze, Griezman and the likes, but we wont.
My hope is that we sign good players and Jurgen can get a tune out of them.
I think replacing Mingolet is such a big step forward it will help, if this Matip is good as people think it will help. Beyond that, I dont know. Were in a league now where Stoke, Palace, West Ham etc can go and spend 150m on players this summer.
I dont mean of course I dont want us to sign the best of course I do, I just dont see it happening and even if we do its still a lottery. United have spent 300m to finish 5th Leicester and Spurs spent nothing and finished top 3.

I know im rambling. Truth is I have no expectations. I just hope our manager is better than their managers and we play some great football. I only watch US nowadays so I just want us to be good to watch.

Also she will be pushing out these babies around the start of the new season.
So which millionaires we make richer is not that high on my agenda.

I'll bet our net spend will be bigger than 16 of other premier league teams and 30 champions league teams. We'll just end up buying shite though.

If we are waiting for big name signings we're likely to be disappointed because Klopp is all about bringing in players who are little known and building them into big name players.

In fairness, that's generally been the Liverpool way too, we've often come unstuck when we've bought big so-called "proven" EPL players - eg Andy Carroll/Stuart Downing/Christian Benteke/Mario Balotelli

Traditionally, we as a club bought many second-liners, or guys who had not featured in English league (Keegan/Hypia/Henchoz/Clemence/Alonso/Suarez/Coutinho/Masher/Torres), but in recent years we've also bought some massively overpriced dross that we've been stuck with on grossly inflated wages.

I'm hoping (and thinking) that Klopp will bring greater due diligence to bring quality to our purchases and spend the money as if it's his own (which he did to such good effect at his last club.

I think the problem is less buying "proven" PL players than buying shit PL players. Carroll, Downing and Balotelli were never good enough. The prices we paid for them merely added insult to injury.

The key is very obviously to buy the right players. Whatever the league, price or cost.

Klopp's recruitment policy was largely dictated by his budget. When he had available money, he wasn't afraid of spending "big". Mikhtaryan.

And Liverpool "traditionally" spent huge sums of money to buy the best available players in Britain; Dalglish, Rush, Beardsley, Alan Kennedy, Mark Lawrenson - all transfer record fees at the time.

I know there's a romantic notion about picking up gems from Partick Thistle and Home Farm - and we did that too - but let's not pretend we didn't wildly outspend almost everyone else when we needed to aswell.

How and where to recruit from is a very difficult 'science' and always has been. Personally I'd want to map out a style of play and then find out all I could about a persons experience, character and fitness to play to my style before approaching his club or agent. I'm sure Klopp has these things in his mode of working from his previous clubs.

We don't seem to be talked of as a destination club but there will be plenty interested in working with Klopp and Liverpool. His first few months have shown us glimpses of what could be and I'm sure it hasn't gone unnoticed.

I think we may be being too pessimistic given the disappointing end to the season and knowing little or nothing about who Klopp thinks will fit into his plans.

Not necessarily, given the money Klopp will spend on known entities. Mkhitaryan, Ramos, Aubameyang, Reus, Sokratis, and Immobile were all sought after by top clubs.

Thats not true though. We've spent about 160 mill net since they took over. Maybe not enough to win the title but certainly enough to challenge for 3rd/4th.

We've been shite at signing players.
