Yep, he's right and didnt Houllier and Rafa say just about the same thing when they arrived.
Was a decent article about this the other day. As long as there is money involved this will always be difficult to change.

Reducing the number of teams in the PL won happen.
Stop playing rematches in the FA cup could work. ET and penalties instead.
Only one semi final in the league cup
Premier league teams dont enter the competition until the 4th round in the FA cup.

Doubt anything will happen though.

If your team isn't in Europe, then they don't play too many matches. They need to stop pointless international friendly matches more than anything

It isn't going to change any time soon, so we just need to deal with it better. So we get a bigger squad, get players that are more suited to playing more games, or play a style of football that doesn't lead to a higher likelihood of injuries.

I don't think we play too many premier league games, its the cup games ontop for me that are the killer. Loads against mickey mouse opposition on rough pitches, sometimes in the arse end of europe.

I wouldn't bugger around with the FA Cup...that's been devalued enough. I also don't see the point in switching to one off semi-finals in the league cup...that will only benefit four teams. I would however reduce the number of teams in the PL to 18.

I also don't see the point of a winter break unless you extend the season which will in turn reduce the summer break. If they just take a week or two off over winter wouldn't that just pile the fixtures up over the rest of the season. Unless of course the number of teams in the PL is reduced.

Has ever been wrong for you Hansern?

If Klopp has been wrong? Sure.
But I agree with him about resting players on Friday, Studge and that the amount of games being played.
This subject, amount of games, has been discussed for a long time though so its nothing new.

I think the difference is the league cup, if we got rid of that, then we'd have the same as other countries, and could have that winter break.

Reducing the league to 18 teams will never happen though. Not when there is so much money involved.

Not playing replays in the FA cup would be a good start. The problem with the league cup and two semi finals is that its played in December/January. For those teams involved it creates a horrendous fixture list.
I doubt you'll ever see the Christmas fixtures changed. What could change is playing the 26th and then not the 28th etc.

Serie A has a break from the 20th of December to 5th/6th of January

La Liga has a break from the 20th of December to 30th of December

Take away that fucking stupid internationally friendly that happens around the end of August (the one that happens 3 games into the season). Put in a midweek fixture in the early part of the season before the group stages of EL and CL kick in. You'd find somewhere to lash one more fixture in. There's 3 spaces. After the St. Stephen's day game (don't take that away it's a great day in the pub), have a break until FA cup. That's the best part of two weeks.

It's ironic to think that the League Cup was originally conceived as a way of giving some teams more matches after they'd been knocked out of the FA Cup and weren't in Europe. It was dreamed up after some clubs complained they didn't have enough matches and wanted something for midweek.

Here's a thought - what about the teams that qualify for Europe enter the FA Cup at the 4th round?

Gives a reward to clubs for qualifying, reduces fixture congestion for over a third of the league. Also gives better chance for success throughout the season to teams who make the Europa but really don't have the resources to compete on four fronts and therefore intentionally tank the Europa (thereby reducing England's coefficient) and LC.

I don't think teams who are performing at the low end of the league should get bumped to the 4th round but see no problem with rewarding European qualifiers.

Fuck too many games - yeah I know we get injured a lot now, but seriously given the number of injuries this season - it is just unlucky - we have been on nearly 3 to 4 fronts before and managed to get through the season with maybe one or two major injuries. This is unusual - and only highlighted by the fact that we don't have a world class goalscorer up front regularly like we have always had for nearly the last 50 odd years bar a few seasons. But this season no one seems to score for us - we don't have the likes of Gerrard or other midfield goal-scorers now who can chip in regularly. This is more of the problem that is making it difficult for us and more tiring.

Fuck too many games again - I love watching our team play and cannot wait till the next game - if only this season to get over the latest bad result with a resounding victory in the next game !!!!

There are only too many games when you're fighting on 4 fronts, like we are. A couple of things that could help though:

Take away cup replays - just get it done in 120 minutes if needed
Take away international friendlies during the season. Its fine to have a couple before a big tournament

Just a thought, don't even know if I agree with it, but how about making the league cup exclusively for teams who haven't qualified for Europe?

Sorry - yes we do have too many games, but I really enjoy watching them, those days between games in Germany - screw that regarding Shalke - I mean over 9 days per game ? - what rubbish, having lots of games gets you more interested and more involved. I love it that we are on all 4 fronts, it's how it should always be for us.

Is right - imagine seeing Liverpool play the Saturday before Christmas, and then not again until New Year. That woudl make for a miserable festive season.
