Dirk Kuyt is shit

Kuyt can be shit but of late has been ace. Great credit to him for turning his season around.

he IS shit in the air, though, tbh. has he ever scored a header from more than a yard out?

still, that's nitpicking on his current form.
ditto, he's woeful with his head

It was against Bolton a couple of seasons ago. I can't find a video though.
at the reebok in a 2-0 win in 08/09 from an aurelio cross? yes, i think i remember that, and it was indeed a very good header.

He is playing some great stuff at the moment but are these performances not coming from playing up front with another very mobile striker ? . I much prefer him playing here then out wide . Again he's not total shite out wide but he does have very bad dips in form out there and over the course of the season i'd prefer some more pace, skill and trickery out there .

Overall though , he deserves some praise cause he is in some great form and more than that , i think he's really stepped up into a team leading role these last few months.

what i've never understood is why can't you praise a player , acknowledge their positives but also highlight their negatives and admit that when they are off form they are total wank and hinder the team . Why does it always have to be so polar , either he's great or he's total shite . Anyway.

The opposition stance is he's not good enough for us, which is enough rile up his defenders, cos it's continually proven to be bullshit.

kuyt is in a great run of for currently so let's sweep his slumps (plural) over the course of a season under the carpet. we need to strengthen the squad to the point that kuyt gets dropped when he has his yearly dip in form. if we are going to continue with a team that allows players to find their form in the first team while we drop points hand over fist we'll get no where and certainly no where near winning the league.

Neil, look at the squads for all the top sides and find me a player who doesnt go through slumps, you're exaggerating the point. Why don't you just admit you don't like him?

Yup, that's where it stands with Kuyt ... He's been great the last 10 games or so though -

well then you're both wrong in my opinion. He's more than good enough to play for us when on form but when off form , especially out wide, then he can be total wank and very frustrating . Doesn't mean he should be fucked off , just means maybe he needs a rest, a different role in the team (as playing now) or we need some other quality options in that position for certain games and to add more over the course of a season. But for everything he brings overall , then he's more than done enough to play for us .

Anyway i'll let you slug it out with this Neil chap ..

kuyt is a competent player who gets is fair share of goals and assists, (though I think he has a poor first touch which let's him down more often than not). he is invaluble as a first team player in our squad, no question. I've never doubted that, I've never sugguested over wise, however;

kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stomer - 'IN YOUR FACE KUYT DOUBTERS!!'
kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'

kuyt stinker - 'oh, he'll come good next game...'
kuyt stomer - 'IN YOUR FACE KUYT DOUBTERS!!'
kuyt stomer - 'IN YOUR FACE KUYT DOUBTERS!!'
kuyt stomer - 'kuyt player of the season'

all I care about is liverpool success, I couldn't give a flying fuck about a player's personal stats or accolades so when I see a player in a slump I want him dropped, no if, buts, or maybies. until we sort that out we aren't going to gain the consistency we need to challenge for the league. so the bottom line is my problem isn't really with kuyt because he can't pick himself, my problem is continuing with out of form players when they are clearly struggling for form, sure that player may and will eventually find his form but how many games will we draw/lose waiting for that happen?
Everyone ws out of form earlier in the season. Should we drop them all?
I'd still play Gerrard

What's a 'stomer'? 🙂

Kuyt has rarely, if ever, been dropped when off form. That has always been the issue. He shouldn't be like a Reina, or Gerrard, or Suarez and be given a 'guaranteed starting spot.' Unless of course there's no other options, which over parts of his career here, that has been the case.

'don't like' is a little strong. I personally think with wide players and width we with stretch teams more, create more oppertunities and ulitmately win more games than with kuyt + another in wide areas. I highly doubt the two wide players I mentioned will score more goals than kuyt but I'm completely convinced we'll win more games. how many more points do manu have than us? how many goals does nani have? how any goals does park have?

pure speculation on my part, obviously. again, not fair to say I don't 'like' kuyt, he always gives 100% scores goals and has the heart of a lion, I just think taking a different approach we'll win more games.

"Kuyt is competent"

I'll leave it right there. Poor the Ryan 'potential' Babel.
is there anything that kuyt does that is exceptional?
range of passing?
first touch?
vision?
kuyt is a very good player rather than an excellent player (imho) so I should have said 'very good' rather than mearly competent as it does him (kuyt) a disservice.

exceptional:

Work ethic
Good example to every player on the squad of what it means to be a Liverpool player
Big games will often see him perform excellently or score critical goals
penos
