From the Sunday Times:
LOUIS VAN GAAL has revealed that he is prepared to let Angel di Maria leave Manchester United if the player is unhappy in his personal life after an attempted burglary on his home.
Di Maria has endured a difficult first season after a £59.7m move from Real Madrid, but it was the attempted break-in at the end of January that has cast the biggest doubt over his future.
The burglars were unsuccessful, but the incident has had such a profound impact that Di Maria, who was at home at the time, has moved his family into an apartment owned by Phil Neville. The original family home is for sale.
Van Gaal was asked if he would let Di Maria, 27, leave on compassionate grounds if the player wanted to. “I’m always like that,” he said. “When you see my history, that’s part of my philosophy. A player is not just a man who kicks the ball from A to B. His environment is influencing him.I shall always be open but I know that the commercial interests of the club and we have to respect that. You cannot give a lot of money for a player and next season put him out of your selection.”
There are suggestions in Spain that United are prepared to listen for offers for the Argentinian winger, who was with Real for four years before moving to the Premier League. Di Maria has scored only four goals in English football and was sent off for two bookable offences in the team’s defeat by Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday last week.
