10 million release clause in his contract apparently... He has been immense this season

Could be worth a punt at that price...

Downside he will likely fail a medical because of his suspect knee...

I have this weird feeling he's going to stop scoring soon and will never start again.

Thats the risk.. Bit like Bobby Zamora... Although I would say he is a far better player..

There's someone shite who scores for fun every year for the first half of the season. You could argue we bought last year's one. And there was Elmander, Zaki a couple of years before etc etc.

Ba does look good though in the rest of his play. The goals may dry up, but I think he'd still be a useful player if he didn't score with the same frequency as before.

He had a good record for the Hammers aswell. The biggest risk is his injury issue, he's a good player, anyone can see that.

Yeah he does look a good player, but maybe not a natural finisher.

Just remembered we had Baros who looked like a world beater for half the season too.

It's possible, but his technique on the shot that Skrtel cleared off the line suggests he's learned how to finish. I'd take a gamble on him, injury risk and all for 10m.

Ross, it's only Jan 7th and I already agree with you on something. Last year it took until August, I think.

His finish against United was even better. I'd take Ba at that price too.

Completely agree.

LIVERPOOL will lead the £10million chase for Newcastle hot-shot Demba Ba.

Like all the Premier League’s big clubs, Liverpool have been alerted to the 15-goal striker having a release clause in his contract.

And Kop boss Kenny Dalglish is eyeing forwards witha proven scoring record as he looks to increase his side’s goal power.

The Manchester clubs United and City, plus Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been made aware of the situation with Ba, 26.

But if Liverpool land the Senegal striker, now with his country at the African Nations Cup, it would place a question mark against the Anfield future of Andy Carroll.

There have been rumours of a Carroll-Ba swap but that would be a difficult deal to negotiate, with Liverpool having paid the Toon a record £35m for Carroll and Ba being a free transfer from West Ham.

In any case, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish remains publicly supportive of Carroll.

The interest in Ba has sparked Toon bosses into opening talks on improving the three-year deal he was given when he signed on a free from West Ham last summer.

A Newcastle source told the Daily Star Sunday: “We’ve spoken to the player and his agent and there is every indication that he is happy here and wants to stay.

Why is it people only want a player once he's expensive ?

I think it's the other way around.

Expenses only want people once they're a player?

Otherwise known as Amir Zaki syndrome.

Demba Ba will quit Newcastle this summer and pocket a staggering £3million of a £7m buy-out clause.

The Magpies are furious details of the in-form Senegalese striker’s contract have been made public.

But they are resigned to losing the 26-year-old at the end of the season.

And his advisers made it clear widespread interest in him would inevitably lead to his departure after just one season in the North East.

Six Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool are ready to meet the buy-out clause
leaving Newcastle powerless to keep Ba if the player wishes to move on.

West Ham were in a similar situation when they were relegated from the Premier League last season. Under the terms of Ba’s contract, they were forced to give him a free transfer.

It seems negotiations over Ba’s move to Newcastle last summer depended on the buy-out clause being inserted, after the club refused to meet the player’s personal demands or pay a significant amount of agents’ fees.

Ba, who earns around £30,000 a week plus appearance money, is expected to double his salary with another move and prefers to stay in the Premier League despite interest from European clubs.

His departure will inevitably lead to more speculation about the return of Andy Carroll to Newcastle 18 months after joining Liverpool for a huge £35m.

Carroll’s relationship with Liverpool is disintegrating. Friends claim he would jump at a cut-price return to Newcastle.
