we've got carroll from newcastle and enrique, adding demba ba in my view would be great addition. has the poachers instinct we miss.

I'd sooner bid 20M for Ba than for Bent.

Thing is they'd reject it and we'd offer 40M.

So would i. He's a very good all round centre forward. Quick, strong, good at linking the play, works hard. Quality player.

And how many good seasons has he had apart from this one?

This right here^^^

And they only took a punt on him cos he failed a medical at Stoke.

*I'd offer a swap for big AC

Have we not learmed from the last time we signed a striker based on one purple patch. If he does it over a number of seasons id go for him. We need to be going for players that are consistently good.

By which time he'll be 29.

He's got everything. He's strong, fast and cool in front of the onion bag. He's a proper striker. I'd swap for Carroll tomorrow.

Don't know whether this was in the rags, my Gaffa is a big Newcastle fan, he used to work at SJP, he said there's rumours doing the rounds of them trying to get Carroll back for £15m-£20m. That's a big loss but I really don't see the guy making it with us, not the way we're set up to play, and as far as game intelligence goes, you only have to watch the runs he makes when the ball is both on the deck and in the air, to see that he's just not that good a footballer. He never attacks the ball or anticipates the ball in. £35m down the drain.

He keeps geting shrugged off arial challenges like a big girl. I would at least expect bravery and strength from a big unit like that, but even those attributes have been lacking.

It frustrates me watching him, especially next to Suarez. Suarez busts a gut for us, Carroll can barely make a run at times. The ball gets played into the box and he just stands there static. Benitez would have loved him.

when the ball is in the air his (carroll) movement is great example his head that crashes off the bar from a gerrard cross) his movement when the ball is played along the floor is less as impressive. basically if you had wingers that take the ball down the wing and cross all day long carroll would fill his boots but we don't play like that, we're at our most effective when we play through the middle.

Not so. He was excellent in a struggling side at West Ham and a few of us were suggesting we should take a look at him then. A swoop for him and Scott Parker was mentioned more than once.

Well then, let's go get him.
Someone e-mail Kenny and tell him to bid £20M asap !

I wouldn't want him.

He looks a good player and all, but i can't get away from the fact that the Stoke medical pointed out that his knee won't hold out for much longer.

Ah. Didn't know that.

Might still be worth taking a look for ourselves though - different medics don't always agree. If the knee's OK according to our lot, we could still use the fitness question as a bargaining chip.

[/quote]Yeah i think West ham took a punt at a few mill Euro knowing the risk, and Newcastle got him for free so they risked fuck all. There is no way we should bid money for a player Stokes medical team described as a ticking time bomb.
I hope the lad plays out a successful long career, but unless he is free I dont see anyone spending a bunce on him.
Shame, we should have picked him up in summer.

The price was the problem. His club wanted 8 million, we agreed then found a problem which may or may not get worse in the future. Stoke asked for a revised price as we thought Ba, with a potential injury was a big gamble for 8 million. They wouldnt budge on the price so we walked away ( dont piss about with Stoke !! ).
West Ham took him on loan so he cost them nothing but wages. That deal was never offered to Stoke, they wanted 8 million or nothing. Newcastle landed him on a free, a good deal we could have looked at had we not have already done our shopping elsewhere.

They didn't budge because there was nothing wrong with him.

He had the same injury as Palacios, and they both had the exact same operation before joining Stoke.

Stoke just tried to play hardball and failed. Whereas in the Palacios deal, we had to play nice so we could get Crouch.

Secondly, when Ba joined Newcastle, the only fit strikers we had were Walters and Jones. And on a free, it was deal of the summer.

He trains everyday with Newcastle, he has no problems and after the operation his knee is fine.

Last but not least, West Ham actually paid £6m for him, it was £2m every month or so to prove his fitness. Which is also why a) West Ham are stupid cunts 'cause they didn't think they'd go diwn and b) Hoffenheim took WH's deal cause they knew he was fit.

We fucked up, basically.

Why is it people only want a player once he's expensive ?

We'll the club is meant to pay people to make sure this doesn't happen
