Defending Carra (formerly West Ham thread)

Agreed. It happens so often on Facebook now that I'm pleasantly surprised when there *isn't* some stupid blooper in the text.

Why don't I hate Gerrard? Or Fowler?

Because they're not out and out defensive players, obviously. Carragher was a better defender than Agger, but Agger gets slack because he suits your ideals of being a ball player from the back. It's all just agenda, so you beating us with the "you only like him coz he's scouse" stick is a bit rich. You only like Lucas because he's Brazilian. The fact he plays fuck all like a Brazilian seems irrelevant. Bizarrely.

I originally missed your pathetic dig at Flanagan earlier, "Oh poor Coutinho had to slightly adjust himself". Are you seriously that fucking desperate to play down his contribution to the build up? Sad.

Ledley "I was fit for 2 seasons, and never had a decent go in europe" king.

No its not because he was a defensive player it's because he for some reason was exempt from criticism. But other players received a disproportionate amount of criticism for the same mistakes he did.
I mentioned the one against Zenit.
If that was Agger or Skrtel the talk afterward would probably be about how he singlehandedly got us knocked out of the Europa League.
Did anyone say that about Carra?
No.
Had Carra reached the same level as Hyypia for instance, I wouldn't have said a thing about him.

The foreign one is too easy.

Here's the English one, in no particular order:

Bruce
Keown
Adams
Ferdinand
Terry
King
Southgate
Campbell
Pallister
Walker

(Woodgate had the potential)

Ahahahahaha.. oh you're serious.

Perhaps Carragher bought himself some Leeway from vultures due to the 16 odd years of service he gave us.

Jesus christ Modo.

King was class, and could have been one of the best in the world if injuries hadn't crippled him. Injuries however would mean I would prefer Carra over King...

I get where Modo is coming from re: Flanno. Not so much Carragher, but I guess once you have made a bold opinion you then have to live or die by the sword!

Why are we listing random CB's or comparing Carragher to a sample of his peers? It's very hard to measure or quantify what Carragher gave us throughout his career. It's not black or white. Is not a case of whether Carragher is better than King or insert another CB here. Many of his peers had more talent than Carragher, he'd admit that himself. NONE of them gave their blood sweat and tears for our club. Modo having pops at Carragher just shows to me he doesn't fully get it. To not like Jamie carragher as a man or player is fucking bonkers. Imagine living in Modo's world where your modus operandi is to occasionally knock Carragher yet defend Agger etc to the hilt. BAFFLING.

Carragher spent a few years being a right footed centre half playing at left back and rarely looked out of place. He then had a number of phenomenal years at centre back for us. He was a permenant fixture of the defence that led to Reina winning umpteen golden glove awards. He was part of one of the meanest defences in Europe in 2001. His return to the side coincided with a big improvement in results last season (the purchases of Sturridge and Coutinho were the main influences here, but Carragher was very good). Has he made mistakes in matches? Of course he has, who fucking hasn't, but anyone who thinks that Jamie Carragher wasn't a top defender knows fuck all about football.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned how Carra took out one of Modo's mates in a friendly match.
I mean, what a cunt.

It doesn't normally bother me much, it's just a bit ridiculous to go to the trouble of making some 'meme' (is that what those pictures are?) and fucking it up with the simplest of errors.

Yeah, that's called a "meme".

I've always said that he was top class during those 4-5 years he played as a CB. But when he played as a fullback I believe he would have been replaced had we found someone suitable.
For instance when Babbel joined Carra was moved to the right. We bought Ziege later on to play on the left but unfortunately he was wank. I think Houllier's plan was to play Babbel Hyypia Henchoz Ziege at the back.
So Ziege fucked off and we bought Riise but then Babbel got that weird disease so his career pretty much ended and Carra got his right back spot again.
Finnan joined in 2003 and Carra was again moved to the left back position, Riise moved to left midfield.
That's how I remember it.

King was a good defender hampered by persistent injuries. The guy was talented and I'd have had him in our squad were he fit more often.
As for running Carra off, I'm not giving that train of thought the credibility it doesn't deserve by responding to it.

Oh, my dear jesus... Stop it. Please.

Really? I remember it more like 5 different managers over a 15 year period found a place in the team for him regardless of who they fucking bought.

Cos he was that good, that relaible, and that critical to the team.

It's neither a platitude or a disservice to call Jamie Carragher the heart and soul of our football club for the last 15 years. For a period there we were one of the best sides in world football, with the best defence in the game, all of which was built around him.

You're probably wondering why everyone is calling you out on this Modo. Two reasons; 1 - You're talking clueless fucking shite. 2 - You don't piss on your own. You won't find AC Milan fans denigrating Maldini, or Barca fans picking flaws in Puyol's game. Cos it's just not what you fucking do.

If some guy plays over 500 games for your club, never ever countenances leaving, puts his fucking balls on the line every single week for the betterment of your club, plays like a hero through cramp on the biggest night of his life, and then goes and stands on the Kop with the everyday fan when he's called it quits - then he gets your respect.

Without condition.

Given your failure to like anyone else's posts I usually refrain from liking yours, even when I do. But I can't help myself here.

Yeah, pretty much all this.

Jamie Carragher brought to Liverpool the qualities that money just can't buy.

Players talk about putting themselves on the line but talk is so cheap. Skrtel (and Agger on occasion) have put their bodies in harms way on several occasions this season - and received massive plaudits for it. Rightly so in my opinion.

Carra did it every single game of every single week for 15+ years. The End.

Jesus christ Modo.

After should be nearly half way there?

Criticizing After seems to be the in thing these days...just like how criticising Gerrard was the in thing in the early half of the season.

After will start against hammers and rightly so....

Indeed Ryan.

Its Jamie Fucking Carragher like.

Also LOL @ Modo picking out Carragher fuck ups. Well, when you play over 500 times for your club you're bound to be prone to the odd mistake.
