Defending Carra (formerly West Ham thread)

What are you talking about?

Are you're referring to the game against Man U when he put his studs into Blomqvist chest, as a friendly?

In that case his two own goals against Man U were pretty friendly as well.

Agree with everything Ryan says, though I do wonder whether Ryan himself believes it, as comments like 'Dalglish was utterly fucking useless.' kind of contradicts it.

Indeed Ryan.

Its Jamie Fucking Carragher like.

Also LOL @ Modo picking out Carragher fuck ups. Well, when you play over 500 times for your club you're bound to be prone to the odd mistake.

The odd mistake?

Once upon a time and it was a pretty common understanding that Carragher had at least one mistake in him per game.

Like here's an example, Agger gets beaten by Soldado but wins the ball. A thread is started about it.

This happens:

No one says jack fucking shit.

But let's go further back. Most of you are like 20 years old and remember Carragher the CB.
I remember this Carragher:

Or more recently, this guy:

But that was Agger's fault, right?

It's not about his 16 years of service. I didn't rate him at the beginning of his career either. The only time I thought he did well was during the years under Benitez. He's just not my type of footballer and that's basically it.

Modo - there's no point wasting time trying to argue this with you, or rationalising this.

You're being a dick.

Bear in mind I've defended you in the past, and am not in the habit of laying into people unnecessarily, so I'm not saying that lightly.

But you are, you really really are

Modo posting about people having agendas because they call out Agger's fuck ups. Oh the fucking irony.

Easily the most hapless, detached, bitter poster on 6cm. Which is a shame because 90% of the time you're a sound, reasoned poster, and then you go off the rails on your regular dig at a defender who defends, undoing all your good work.
*sigh*

Because he can defend first and foremost, as opposed to Agger's exaggerated label of being this cultured player who should be playing for Barca (there's some truth there, for all the wrong reasons).

Like you say, you prefer defenders who can play a bit before anything else, that's your thing, fine, it doesn't make it right, a defenders duty first and foremost is to defend, if they can play a bit too then great, it shouldn't be THE prerequisite. And if you're going to put forward mistakes, you may aswell start compiling videos of strikers missing chances, because they all do, right?

How many centre backs don't make mistakes?? Do you want to put together a compilation of super John Terry's? Or Vidic's? Oh soz, they've won the league so that's the difference, like Carra could never have been part of a league winning side, even though he challenged for it twice and helped carry an otherwise indifferent side throughout the rest of his career and won EVERYTHING else there is to win in the game.

When I've called you out on being a troll before I've been shot down for it.

"Oh poor Modo hasn't said anything wrong", get fucked. You're a troll and you fucking know it.

If you can't fathom why people relate to and RESPECT players like Carragher, then you really don't have a clue about what the heart and soul of the club is.

Carragher gets every mistake highlighted and labelled as overrated, unwanted, just about every bit of disrespect thrown his way (he makes a mistake every game?!). But bellends like that fucking Dos Santos, who failed at Spurs and Ipswich, gets lauded as a great possible signing, because he's good at keep ups.

RAWK must love you, you tick all the right boxes.

This isn't going anywhere and I'm not gonna change my mind.

@singlerider you don't have to defend me. I knew what I was getting into when I mentioned him.

@mark1975 I appreciate you trying to get me understand your and others affection to Carra but it's falling on deaf ears. It's too late, if I'm to be known as the weirdo Swede who doesn't rate him then so be it.
Had to laugh at the Dos Santos comparison though cause it's got nothing to do with Carra.

One thing I'd like to clarify is that I have nothing against defenders who first and foremost DEFEND, that's their purpose right?
Players like Terry, Vidic, Carvalho fall under the same bracket in that case and I have nothing against them, football-wise.

So, no I don't share your affection towards Carra, but the same can't be said about Gerrard or Fowler or anyone else of that magnitude because at one point I thought they were irreplaceable.

The dos Santos comparison should work, as it's evidence you support dodgy players

Y U NO LIKE CARRA?!

I'm not defending you.

I'm saying you're being a dick.

You're also ruining a thread while you're at it.

Give it a rest, eh?

The other funny thing about this post is, I remember at the time loads of people laying into Agger for every one of those incidents, especially the Henry one.

Y U NO LIKE CARRA?!

Seriously? Weren't people here raving about players like Queresma or Adam Johnson? Didn't you want Downing?
We were linked to Dos Santos and I said that I'd rather have him than Downing. That's about it.

If it's about commitment, work ethic, attitude and so forth then bring back Jay Spearing.

Give it a rest, eh?

I'm trying.

I wanted downing for 12m because I didn't believe we had the scouting network, or recent success to get big players that we needed.

I was happy with him for a stop gap and thought he could up his game like he had the previous season for villa.

I made a balls up of that decision.
