It is a bit strange. He's young (check), Spanish (check), taught the tikitaka way (check) and his attitude seems excellent (check). Maybe he's a satanist.

But just hasn't ever looked like he'll be effective in top level football.

Well how often has he played? He's generally been sent on to fill in rather than play in his best position. Sterling started playing exactly as he played in the ressies and was given a degree of licence to show what he could do. Neither Pacheco nor Suso are the kind of players who'll make a huge impact coming on late in a game to 'do what Downing was doing' or 'do what Allen was doing'. I'm not knocking the coaching staff for that - they're just the kind of players who are hard to slot into the team, but they've both done a reasonable job when they have come on. I don't think we've seen anywhere near enough of them to judge how effective they can be. It hasn't helped that Pacheco has been sent off to play for such mediocre teams. I wish he was loaned for a season to another premiership club and then we could finally see what he can do.

Pachecho did go to Norwich in the Championship for a bit and by all accounts did well. I wonder why that never led to better things for him on these shores. Often it's plain to see that there is a lack of talent on show but with Pacheco that isn't the case or at least it's harder for us fans to see that without the benefit of seeing him day in day out. Weird.

I hope Suso doesn't go the same way. There is a lot to work with there. I guess for a start he's gone to a La Liga team, which is a start, rather than some middling Segunda side.

Yeah well, there had to be something that caused him to be plucked out of the squad so drastically.
It's logical really.

I hope we got a few million quid for him.

Right. Now he's on loan at a top level club and should get game time

Let's see if there's a chance he might earn a new contract

Good move for him. Hope he has a great year and helps Celta survive yet another season

Meanwhile, somewhere in Celta Vigo-land, a bunch of Vigo-forummers are asking:

What he hell happened to Liverpool? They used to be a really good team a few years ago.
Yeah but we haven't gone from a top 4 team to nearly getting relegated like celta vigo.

Their story of late has been pretty amazing. Going quite far in Europe but failing at home.

Summary:
2003 - 2004: Last 16 in the CL, but 2nd from bottom in the La Liga and relegated
2004 - 2005: 2nd in the Segunda, promoted to the La Liga
2005 - 2006: 6th in the La Liga, qualified for UEFA Cup
2006 - 2007: Last 16 in the UEFA Cup, but 18th in the La Liga and relegated
...
2010 - 2011: Promotion playoffs; lost after penalty shootout
2011 - 2012: Promoted to the La Liga
2012 - 2013: Survived relegation on the last day of the La Liga

From the Wiki:

Celta had a dramatic reversal of fortune in 2003—04. The previous season, they finished fourth in the league, putting them in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Celta entered the group phase after eliminating Slavia Praha, and eventually reached the last 16 before being knocked out by Arsenal. However, their domestic form was disastrous, and they finished second to the last in La Liga, so they were relegated to the second level. Although their squad was heavily dismantled, they earned a return to the top flight at the first attempt, after finishing second in 2004-05's Segunda.

In the 2005–06 season, they finished sixth earning a return once more to the UEFA Cup. They made it to the last 16 in that competition as well, before losing to Werder Bremen.

In the 2006—07 season, Celta finished in 18th position and were relegated to Segunda División. At the end of June 2007, Celta avoided going into administration. However, if an agreement was not put in place between the club and its creditors within three months, then courts would declare the liquidation of the club's assets.

Due to the huge debt, the club was forced to sell many players and make tremendous cuts in the club's finances. Since then, they have been relying mainly in the reserves team, combined with some inexpensive signings. During the first three seasons in Segunda División the club struggled hard to avoid relegation, amid fears of the club's disappearance. This was a period of high instability, with constant changes of managers and players. In the season 2010–2011, the signings of the striker David Rodríguez, the winger Enrique de Lucas and the manager Paco Herrera turned the situation and the club finished sixth, performing a fantastic season and qualifying for the promotion. Nevertheless, they were eliminated in the first knockout by Granada CF on the penalty shootout, after an aggregate of 1–1 .

Liverpool striker Pacheco set for Celta Vigo loan move after missing pre-season tour
By SIMON JONES

PUBLISHED: 21:06 GMT, 17 July 2013 | UPDATED: 21:06 GMT, 17 July 2013

Celta Vigo are in talks to sign Liverpool striker Dani Pacheco.

He was left behind for the Reds' tour to Australia and the Far East and is likely to join the Spanish side on loan at first.

In action: Dani Pacheco, playing against Preston last weekend, is set for a loan move to Celta Vigo

Pacheco joined the Reds in 2007 from Barcelona's academy, but has found first-team opportunities limited at Anfield, making just 17 appearances in all competitions for the club.

He played three times for Liverpool last season but found more regular football at Spanish second division side Huesca on loan, netting five times in 19 games.

Right. Now he's on loan at a top level club and should get game time

Let's see if there's a chance he might earn a new contract
'Earn!?'
Why in the name of fuck would he EVER sign a new contract with us?
He will be free in summer to sign for whoever. I cant see him being interested in signing again for a team who dont play him and fight for a place in that team who are fighting for a place in the Europa league.
He'll never come back now.

Yeah I'd be surprised if he did. But I think he kinda likes us, so if we offered him one I think he'd take it.

Yea, Pacheco really gets the club and the city, he won't leave just because someone else will offer him more money and the chance to play games.

I reckon Pacheco will stay because he really likes singing 'The Wheels on the Bus" on the way to away games. It took him years to get to know the words of all the verses so why would he just leave now and have to learn it all over again in a different language, and in a different bus. It makes no sense, he's better off here where he can even teach some of the new foreign lads the words and be respected for what he knows.

*shrugs*

I think he's a bit simple and believes hell eventually get a chance with us.

But as I said, I'd be surprised
