Sachin Nakrani from the Guardian has said he's been told Papa deal is increasingly likely. We were apparently reluctant to push for a move until we were sure his injury had cleared up, which is looks like it has.

He's also said we're close to signing Paulo Machado, who would appear to be a holding midfielder.

Selling Skrtel and buying Papadopolous is NOT a thick idea.

Wheter or not he's out injured is irrelevant imho. He's started training again now, which is why we're apparantly going for him. Kolo Toure can fill in while he getting his fitness back.
If we agree a fee then he'll go through a pretty hefty medical before signing.

This lad is 21 and already better than Skrtel. We're talking about a massive fucking signing. And if we wait 6-12 months while he proves himself after the injury then we could well miss out when other big clubs show their interest again.

I don't think either example works, to be honest. Both replacements were vastly inferior, which was the crux of the problem.

I know fuck all about Papadopoulos, but if he's a significant upgrade on Skrtel (which isn't that hard to believe), I think it's worth doing. You have to believe that the injury risk has been sufficiently assessed if we're seriously considering it.

Papa is in training and you can bet he'll be put under the medical microscope. So I'm fairly ok with us going for him because of his quality despite being a bit uneasy because of our previous history buying injured players.

Skrtel for 7M is a no go.

No not quite, there is nothing to say Albiol wouldnt be 3rd choice. Napoli are in the champions league next season and have a relatively small squad, there will be plenty of games to go around for 3 senior centre backs.

Im not saying we should be trying to shift Skrtel but they will be competing for trophies on a couple of fronts next season and obviously he knows Rafa so I dont see why he wouldnt consider going there
