Confirmed Transfers 2014/2015

Birmingham City - Jonathan Grounds (free transfer)
4x3101-1593016_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.bcfc.com/news/article/20140602-official-jonathan-grounds-becomes-first-summer-signing-1581888.aspx#Z1MgH9uTD0ihQDAE.99]Blues have today completed the signing of former Oldham Athletic defender Jonathan Grounds on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old, who will formally become Lee Clark's first signing ahead of the 2014/15 campaign on July 1, operates predominantly as a left-back but can also stand-in at centre-back if required.

Grounds, who was born in North Yorkshire, began his career at Middlesbrough, where he came through their academy system.

During his five-year professional spell at Boro he spent several periods out on loan at Norwich City, Hibernian, Chesterfield and Yeovil Town.

In 2012 he joined Oldham Athletic and during his two-year stint at the Latics made 106 appearances and scored three goals.

Blues boss Clark, who worked with Grounds during his time as assistant manager at Norwich, told bcfc.com: "I am delighted to welcome Jonathan to the club and he is somebody who both myself and (chief scout) Malcolm Crosby know a lot about from his time at Middlesbrough.

"Jonathan's versatility will be important for us as he can play as a left-back or left-sided centre half. We conceded far too many goals last season so it was key that we strengthened our defence and Jonathan will help us to do that.

"He has a lot of experience and I can see in his eyes that he has that hunger as he was always determined to get back playing in the Championship."[/article]

Birmingham City - Grant Hall (loan)
4x3-1101-1602388_478x359.jpg

[article=http://www.bcfc.com/news/article/20140604-official-birmingham-city-bag-tottenham-hotspur-defender-1598521.aspx#grQg7pVLqRfB2m7u.99]Blues have signed young Tottenham Hotspur defender Grant Hall on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old centre-half is Lee Clark's second signing this week, following the arrival of versatile left-back Jonathan Grounds on Monday.

Hall, who hails from Brighton, began his footballing career with his hometown club as a scholar in 2009. He made a solitary first-team appearance for the Seagulls, before he was snapped up by Spurs in the summer of 2012.

After impressing for the North London club's U21 side, including captaining them towards the end of the 2012/13 campaign, Hall joined Sky Bet League One outfit Swindon Town on a season-long deal in July 2013.

However, having been an ever-present for the Robins with 33 appearances up until mid-January, the second half of Hall's loan stay at the County Ground was scuppered by a hamstring injury.

Hall will now be looking to take the next step up in his promising career with regular football in the Sky Bet Championship with Blues.

Crucially for Clark, the season-long loan doesn't include a recall option, something that inadvertently hampered his side during the 2013/14 campaign with the likes of Kyle Bartley and Dan Burn being recalled by their respective parent clubs.

Commenting on Hall's arrival, the Blues boss added: "I've got to stress that a big reason we were prepared to do this loan deal was due to the fact that there can be no recall so Grant is effectively our player for the next year.

"I watched him closely at Swindon Town last season and he impressed before picking up a hamstring injury. I know that Mark Cooper (the Swindon manager) speaks very highly of him and we were actually in for Grant last season but due to the link between Tottenham and Swindon it didn't work out for us.

"We're delighted to have Grant on board and it's no coincidence that my first two signings have been defenders because that was an area we needed to address. We simply didn't keep enough clean sheets last season and, as we look to continue to improve that area, there will be more defenders to come." [/article]

Birmingham - Stephen Gleeson (free transfer)

[article=http://www.bcfc.com/news/article/20140605-official-blues-bag-irish-midfielder-1612403.aspx#RZs5rfz2xioULird.99]Lee Clark's squad rebuilding continues apace with the signing of Milton Keynes Dons midfielder Stephen Gleeson.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has put pen-to paper on a two-year contract.

Born in Dublin, Gleeson moved to England to join Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Academy set-up.

He was given a three-year professional deal by Wolves in 2006. During that three year period with the Black Country outfit he spent several spells out on loan at clubs including Stockport County, Hereford United and Milton Keynes Dons, before signing with the Dons on a permanent basis in July 2009, going on to make a total of 169 appearances with 17 goals to his name.

The recruitment of Gleeson follows the arrival of defenders Jonathan Grounds and Grant Hall last week. [/article]

Leverkusen - Tin Jedvaj (2 year loan with option to buy)
060614_0014_jed.jpg

[article]Roma have officially loaned Croatian defender Tin Jedvaj to Bayer Leverkusen for two seasons with option to buy.

The Giallorossi released a statement this afternoon confirming the teenage centre-back will spend the next two campaigns on loan in Germany.

This deal includes an option for Bayer Leverkusen to make the move permanent, which must be exercised by the end of the 2015-16 season.

Roma also have a counter-option, the details of which are unclear.

Jedvaj is only 18 years old and managed just two Serie A appearances in his debut season at Roma, playing a grand total of 98 minutes, after arriving from Dinamo Zagreb.

It is hoped he will be given the opportunity to play regularly and flourish at Bayer Leverkusen, ultimately increasing his value.[/article]

Lazio - Stefano Pioli (Head Coach)
851554_RIC1264.jpg

[article]SS Lazio have moved quickly to replace Edoardo Reja, who stepped down after six months in charge, by appointing Stefano Pioli as their new coach.

Reja arrived late in December 2013 to replace Vladimir Petković – who will become Switzerland's new coach on 1 July – and led Lazio to ninth place in Serie A, but he has opted to leave with 12 months left on his contract. The 68-year-old previously coached Lazio between 2010 and 2012 in a long managerial career stretching back more than three decades.

"I think a change is the best option for the club," Reja said. "My time on the Lazio bench has come to an end, given we experienced a difficult situation [in recent months]. The president [Claudio Lotito] restated his trust in me, but I said to him that it was over for me. I hope my resignation will help the club regain their spirit."

The 48-year-old Pioli was without a club after being sacked by Bologna FC in January. He had led the Rossoblù to ninth and 13th place in the two previous campaigns. The former Juventus and ACF Fiorentina defender has also coached Parma FC and AC Chievo Verona during his career.[/article]

Barcelona - Cesc Fabregas (reportedly €33m and €3m in add-ons)
0,,10268~12900820,00.jpg

[article=http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3900839/title/fabregas-signs-for-chelsea]Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has joined on a five-year contract and will wear the no. 4 shirt.

He said: 'Firstly I would like to thank everyone at FC Barcelona where I enjoyed three wonderful years. It was my childhood club and I will always be proud and honoured that I had a chance to play for such a great team.

'I do feel that I have unfinished business in the Premier League and now is the right time to return.

'I considered all the other offers very carefully and I firmly believe that Chelsea is the best choice. They match my footballing ambitions with their hunger and desire to win trophies. They have an amazing squad of players and an incredible manager. I am fully committed to this team and I can't wait to start playing.'

A versatile, technically gifted midfielder, Fabregas has acquired a wealth of experience from playing in two of the strongest leagues in Europe and representing the most successful Spain international side of all time.

Comfortable operating as an attacking midfielder, he can also perform in a deeper role, and on the international stage he has been used in wide areas, as a second striker or, on occasions, as a 'false no.9'.

Fabregas arrives at Stamford Bridge following a three-year spell at Barcelona during which he helped the Catalan club win the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

He is no stranger to the Premier League having enjoyed an eight-year spell with Arsenal prior to moving to Camp Nou.

His time in north London was an important period in his development, during which he made the transition from being a young, inexperienced player to arguably the most important member of Arsenal's squad.

However, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe chasing his signature, his departure from the Emirates was almost inevitable, and so it proved when he returned to the club that had nurtured him.

Born near Barcelona, Fabregas joined the Barça academy at the age of 10 but having flourished in their youth sides, he left his boyhood club and moved to Arsenal in 2003 at the age of 16.

With his first season in England one of adaptation, he began to make his mark during the following campaign, and at the end of the season he started the FA Cup final as Arsenal beat Manchester United on penalties in Cardiff.

Patrick Vieira's departure to Juventus afforded Fabregas the opportunity to establish himself as a regular in midfield and he grabbed it with both hands, shining en route to the Champions League final in 2006 where Arsenal were beaten by Barcelona.

At the end of the 2006/07 season he was nominated for both the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards as well as being named in the 2006 UEFA Team of the Year.

Aged 20, he was again nominated for both PFA awards at the end of the following campaign, winning the Young Player of the Year prize, as well as being named in the Premier League Team of the Season.

In 2008 Fabregas took on the Arsenal captaincy and, buoyed by the responsibility, added goals to his game on a consistent basis before moving back to Barcelona in the summer of 2011.

After making his debut in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid, he scored his first goal for the Barça first team in a UEFA Super Cup victory against Porto, before netting on his La Liga debut, a 5-0 win over Villarreal. He later scored six goals in a four-game period, including one in a 3-1 victory away at Real Madrid, as well as finding the target in the FIFA World Club Cup final, a 4-0 win over Santos.

Fabregas featured in both legs of the 2012 Champions League semi-final against Chelsea, when the Blues came out on top to secure a place in the Munich final, and he scored his first Barcelona hat-trick the following season against Mallorca, Barça finishing that campaign as champions of La Liga. There was little doubt Fabregas had played a pivotal part in their success with 11 goals to his name.

His third and final season at Barcelona promised much for long spells but ultimately Gerardo Martino's side ended the season with the Spanish Super Cup to their name.

Fabregas started both legs of the Champions League quarter-final as Barcelona were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Atletico Madrid, and played an hour of the Copa del Rey final, a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid. He also started the La Liga title decider against Atletico before being replaced by Xavi with 13 minutes left to play, his final appearance for the club.

At international level, Fabregas has represented Spain at every major tournament since the 2006 World Cup when he was just 19, winning three trophies along the way.

After an impressive Euro 2008, in which he scored a decisive penalty against Italy in the quarter-finals, it was he who supplied the pass from which Andres Iniesta scored the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final.

At Euro 2012, another triumphant campaign for Spain, he scored the winning penalty in a semi-final shoot-out against Portugal as well as starting the final, a 4-0 win against Italy.

He is in the squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil, and you can monitor his progress here on the official Chelsea website.[/article]

The powerful midfielder, a free agent having seen his contract at Crystal Palace expire, will join the club on a 3 year deal on 1 July 2014, subject to league approval.

The 29 year old, also known as KG, arrives as Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s fifth signing of the summer after successfully completing his medical this week, following the arrival of Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller, Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre.

Speaking following his move to the Welsh capital, Kagisho said: “I’m delighted to join Cardiff City. The manager was persistent in wanting to bring me here, which always means a lot to a player. Growing up I was a big fan of the way he played and I can’t wait to get started with my new team-mates in training.

“Having played at the stadium and against Cardiff on a number of occasions I’m really looking forward to my first game in front of the Cardiff City fans. Like Crystal Palace fans, they are extremely passionate and love football. I’ll be sure to give them one hundred per cent effort in trying to get us promoted back to the Premier League.”

Born in Brandfort, South Africa, KG represented local club Cardiff Spurs, Bloemfontein Young Tigers and Golden Arrows in his early career, then making the move to the Premier League with Fulham in 2009. He played a total of sixteen games for the Cottagers.

Joining Crystal Palace, initially on loan for game-time in February 2011, Kagisho made thirteen appearances with the Eagles until the end of the season. A single goal was scored by the midfielder, a Selhurst Park Championship winner against Cardiff City.

The Eagles move was made permanent in July 2011, with KG seeing far more game time in the 2011/12 Championship season. He made a total of 31 appearances that year, scoring two goals. KG was also in the Palace squad for both legs of the Carling Cup semi-final against Cardiff City.

Now a firm regular in the Eagles squad, KG was a focal part of the Crystal Palace promotion winning squad, playing a total of forty five games that season, including seventeen minutes of the Wembley play-off final against Watford before being forced off through injury. Last season Kagisho made a total of twenty seven appearances for the Eagles before his Selhurst Park contract expired.

All at Cardiff City FC welcome KG’s arrival and look forward to seeing him in action. Returning to South Africa tonight, he will join up with the squad and be unveiled to press when the squad return for pre-season training.

A proud South African, KG has set up the Kagisho Dikgacoi Foundation, specialising in positive outreach work with youngsters. For more information visit: www.kagishodikgacoi.org[/article]

They join Phil Bardsley and Steve Sidwell in checking-in at the Britannia Stadium ahead of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

Diouf, who has agreed a four-year contract, is no stranger to English football having spent three years with Manchester United earlier in his career, which also included a loan spell with Blackburn.

The Senegalese international joined Hannover in 2012 and has proved to be a big hit in the Bundesliga, scoring 25 goals in 57 league appearances.

City Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: "It's no secret that Mame is someone we have been looking to bring to the Club for some time.

Hoffenheim - Kim Jin-su

[article=http://www.achtzehn99.de/jin-su-kim-pens-contract-with-tsg-until-2018/]Jin-Su Kim will be a TSG 1899 Hoffenheim player for the next four years. On his 22nd birthday, the South Korea international signed a contract that runs until June 30th 2018.

“Both parties have been clear about their desire to collaborate and now it has happened,” said TSG 1899 Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen. The defender, who was most recently at J-League club Albirex Niigata, is very much looking forward to the “challenge of the Bundesliga”.

The fact that the left back could even travel to the Kraichgau to complete his move is down to a ligament injury in his ankle, which has hindered Kim’s appearance at the World Cup. As a regular for his country (nine appearances), he was a member of national coach Myung-Bo Hong’s 23-man squad, but with injury ruling him out of their World Cup preparations, he was ultimately dropped. “It’s a real shame for the boy;” said Alexander Rosen, who is looking forward to having a “rested, aggressive and energetic defender. The fact that, as a youngster, Jin-Su Kim was a key player for his team speaks for itself.”

Jin-Su Kim’s debut in the J-League came in March 2012. He went on to make 76 competitive appearances for Albirex in total. He has also collected international experience with his country’s youth teams, playing at both the U17 World Cup (2009 in Nigeria) and the U20 World Cup (2011 in Colombia).[/article]

[article=http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/irvine-will-be-new-albion-head-coach-1643678.aspx#p0FXSW1OWkohvGTD.99]ALBION are delighted to announce that Alan Irvine will be appointed as their new Head Coach.

The 55-year-old has agreed a 12-month rolling contract and will complete his move to The Hawthorns once he has officially signed off from his current role as Everton’s academy manager.

He will take over the reins from Pepe Mel, with whom the club parted company by mutual consent just over a month ago.

Glasgow-born Irvine holds his UEFA Pro License and has a wealth of Barclays Premier League coaching experience having assisted David Moyes in helping Everton finish in the top seven in three out of five seasons.

He will bring with him Rob Kelly to work as Joint-Assistant Head Coach alongside Keith Downing, whilst Dean Kiely will remain as Goalkeeping Coach.

Albion Technical Director, Terry Burton, said: "I'm delighted we have been able to secure the services of Alan and Rob.

"With the support of Keith and Dean, we firmly believe we have put in place the right coaching team to move the club forward.

"From the outset, we decided to pursue candidates who are renowned for their coaching ability and Alan was very much at the forefront of our thoughts because of his achievements in the Premier League and the high regard he is held within the game.

"In the end it came down to two outstanding candidates for the role.

“But, following a detailed recruitment process, we decided Alan and the team around him are best suited to tackle the challenges we face in the Barclays Premier League.

“He has a vast knowledge from grassroots up thanks to the roles he has performed during his decades in the game and knows what it takes through good and testing times.”

Irvine has been manager of Everton’s highly-regarded Academy since July 2011 – bringing through players such as Ross Barkley and Jack Rodwell.

During a coaching career that spans 22 years he established a burgeoning reputation in Academy roles at Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers between 1992 and 2002.

He has also managed Preston North End, who he took to the Championship Play-offs in 2009, and Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship and League One.

As a player, Irvine started his 15-year career with Scottish side Queen’s Park in 1977 before spells with Everton, Crystal Palace, Dundee United and finally Blackburn, plying his trade as a winger under the likes of Steve Coppell and Kenny Dalglish.

He celebrated promotion to the then newly-formed Barclays Premier League with Rovers in 1991/92 before opting to hang up his boots the following summer.[/article]

[article=http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/16062014-ronald-koeman-appointed-1645420.aspx]Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Koeman as its new First Team Manager.

Koeman has today signed a three-year contract, and takes charge with immediate effect.

The appointment follows an extensive worldwide search for a new manager to move forward the vision and plan set out for the continued success and development of Southampton Football Club.

Koeman arrives at St Mary’s following a highly-successful spell in charge of Feyenoord, who he led to consecutive top-three finishes in the Eredivisie since joining the club in 2011.

Ronald is joined at Southampton by his elder brother, Erwin, who is appointed Assistant First Team Manager. Erwin has enjoyed a successful playing and coaching career of his own, having managed in the Eredivisie and taken charge of the Hungarian national team.

The pair will be joined by Jan Kluitenberg, who takes up the role of Assistant First Team Coach/Physical Coach. Kluitenberg worked with Ronald Koeman at Vitesse Arnhem, Benfica, AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

26-year-old Ivan Rakitic arrives at the Camp Nou after impressing for three seasons with Sevilla. He has done nothing but improve in his time at the Sánchez Pizjuán, becoming the team’s main central playmaker and captain, leading them to the Europa League title in the 2013/14 season.

Last season, manager Unai Emery usually played him as a central midfielder, and in his finest campaign to date, he made 59 official appearances and scored 15 goals. Rakitic is also one of the stars of the Croatian national team that is currently in Brazil playing at the World Cup.[/article]

[article=http://www.safc.com/news/team-news/2014/june/black-cats-sign-pantilimon]Sunderland AFC has confirmed that goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon has agreed a four-year deal with the Black Cats. The Romanian international will join the club from July 1 on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old spent three seasons with Manchester City, making 29 appearances for the Barclays Premier League Champions.

The 6ft 8” stopper, capped 19 times by his country, began his career in his homeland with Aerostar Bacau before moving to Politechnica Timisoara from where he joined City.

SAFC sporting director Lee Congerton said: “Competition for places is healthy and brings out the best in players. We already have a great goalkeeper in Vito Manonne and another one now in Costel.

“Add to this youngster Jordan Pickford, who recently signed a long-term deal and we have a very strong stable of goalkeepers, which is vitally important in the top flight.”

Pantilimon also expressed his delight at completing his move to Wearside: “It is a great privilege and honour to join a club like Sunderland. They have an amazing history and tradition and of course passionate fans.

“When I left Manchester City it was important that I chose a club with good ambition and a head coach who has the hunger and desire to take the team forward.

“After speaking with the boss, I knew this was the right place and he was the right man. I can't wait to start.”

Pantilimon becomes the club’s third summer signing after the Black Cats secured the services of Billy Jones and Jordi Gomez.[/article]

[article]Real Betis have announced the appointment of former Villarreal and Real Murcia coach, Julio Velázquez as the club’s new manager.

The 32-year-old recently left Murcia following the end of their 2013-14 campaign and after several weeks of speculation, was officially announced as the new coach via the club’s official website.

“Julio Velázquez Santiago will be the manager of Real Betis from 1st July. This young but experienced coach takes the reins after a remarkable season with Real Murcia, who qualified for the play-off for promotion despite many adversities before the start of the season.”

Velázquez, for his part, admits that it will be difficult to get the recently-relegated side back to the Primera, but he’s committed to putting all of his efforts into getting Betis back to “their rightful place.”

“Joining Real Betis is an exciting challenge and I am convinced that, although the road will be long and hard, we can return Betis to its rightful place.”

Velázquez takes over for Gabriel Calderon, who left the club immediately after the season and becomes the club’s fourth coach in less than a year.[/article]

West Ham - Cheikhou Kouyate (undisclosed, reportedly €9 million)

[article=http://www.whufc.com/articles/20140618/hammers-complete-kouyate-transfer_2236884_3914133]West Ham United are delighted to confirm the transfer of Anderlecht midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old Senegal international arrives from the Belgian champions on a four-year deal and becomes the Hammers' second new addition of the summer, following the signing of Argentine striker Mauro Zarate.

The Hammers had to fight off strong competition from clubs across Europe to land the services of Kouyate, who possesses extensive UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League experience from his time at Anderlecht.

Kouyate is thrilled to have completed his move to the Hammers, as he exclusively told West Ham TV: "I am very happy, because today West Ham have given me the chance to play in the Premier League. So I'm very happy to join such a club and that gives me great pleasure.

"I know a few players who were also at the club, [Carlos] Tevez, Demba [Ba], Andy Carroll, who was obviously here last season. West Ham are a team who are known and who are going to help me to progress. For my part, I'm going to try to do great things here and try to improve further still as a player.

"That I'm here now is thanks to the manager, because he went out of his way, leaving his holiday for me, so he has done everything he could for me to join the club. He, my advisers and agents helped me make the right decision and said West Ham was the ideal club for me, because as a kid I dreamed of playing in the Premier League and now it's here that my dream has been realised."

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan has welcomed Kouyate to the Club and believes his capture is a good indicator of the direction the Club is heading in. "I am absolutely delighted to have clinched the signing of Cheikhou after weeks of tough negotiations that saw us beat off the challenge of some huge clubs across Europe for his signature," Mr Sullivan said. "He comes with vast experience at the top level - including the Champions League - despite being only 24 and I am sure he will add valuable competition to places.

"We are determined to have a better season this year and this signing is a statement of the direction the Club is heading in. We hope to have at least four more signings in place by the time we kick-off against Tottenham on 16 August as we aim for at least a top-ten finish this season."

Born in Dakar, Senegal, Kouyate moved to Europe at the age of 15 when FC Brussels took him into their Academy and the 6'4 central midfielder's breakthrough came in the 2007/08 campaign when he made ten first team appearances in the Belgian top flight.

He earned a move to Anderlecht in the summer of 2008, quickly becoming a mainstay in the starting line-up. A first Belgian title arrived in the 2009/10 season, and he added to his medal collection as Anderlecht claimed the crown for the last three campaigns.

In Europe, Kouyate played a full role as Anderlecht reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League in 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12, and the group phase of the UEFA Champions League for the last two seasons.

Internationally, Kouyate is a teammate of Senegal captain Mo Diame. He has been capped eleven times and represented his country at the 2012 London Olympic Games.[/article]

Sevilla - Aleix Vidal (€3 million)\

[article]Sevilla officially confirmed the signing of former Almeria midfielder, Aleix Vidal on a five-year deal and the Catalan is hoping to continue to grow and improve with the Europa League champions.

In his first statements as a player for Sevilla, Vidal refused to define his style of play, but insists that his speed will be a great asset to his new club.

“I have many things to improve, I’m young and all I can do is try and give my best. For three years I’ve been getting six or seven goals per season. It doesn’t draw much attention, but it’s an important regularity, nor have I had injuries. I hope that they continue respecting me and that I continue growing as a footballer. I give my best, although speed may be my strongest point.

“It’s been difficult but three years ago I began my dream and I had confidence placed on me. Almería did that and I only have words of appreciation for the club. I hope to continue in this way. I come to do my bit. This is a club where the objectives are different. I like challenges, and the more difficult they are, the more I give my all.”[/article]

West Brom - Joleon Lescott (free transfer)

[article=http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/lescott-agrees-baggies-deal-1652736.aspx#FIQXrJhZQ6cTpCex.99]ALBION have pulled off a major coup by beating a host of clubs to the signing of England international Joleon Lescott.

The 31-year-old centre-half will officially join the Baggies on a Bosman transfer in July, after passing a Hawthorns medical and penning a two-year contract, plus a further performance-related year’s option.

He arrives at the club as a free agent, having seen his five-year stay at Manchester City end with a second Barclays Premier League winners’ medal in three seasons.

Lescott will meet his new team-mates for the first time when he reports for pre-season training on July 7.

He becomes Alan Irvine’s first signing, less than a week after he was announced as the Baggies’ new Head Coach.

And the Scot is delighted to be reunited with the defender, following their successful time together at Everton.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to agree a deal with Joleon,” said Irvine.

“He’s an England international and a proven Premier League player, who has been at the top level for a number of years.

“He’s got Premier League and cup medals to his name and has had a fantastic career so far.

“When we realised he was available and there was a realistic chance of getting him here we started to work very hard on it.

“Full credit to the board and everyone at the club for getting this done as quickly and effectively as they did.

“I know Joleon and the type of personality and character he is, in addition to knowing what he can do as a player.

“He’s a great professional and he will add to a number of very good professionals who are already in the squad.

“It’s vitally important for me that we don’t go into a Premier League season with only three centre-backs at senior level – and I’m delighted with the four proven centre-backs we now have.

“Nobody is guaranteed a place in the team; I have to pick the best two, or sometimes we might play with a three, and I have to work out the ones who can do the best job in any particular game.”

Lescott, who has 26 England caps to his name, also lifted the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at the Etihad Stadium, and has a wealth of experience in European competition.

He becomes the Baggies’ second summer signing, following in Craig Gardner’s footsteps.

Technical Director Terry Burton added: “Joleon is the second of two quality signings we have made so far this summer and we hope to continue in that vein.

“Joleon and Craig will not only add quality to the squad but character as well, which is vitally important for the Premier League challenge.”

The 6ft2in ace was scouted by Wolves as a youngster and made his senior debut, aged 17, against Sheffield Wednesday, at Molineux in August 2000.

Fans voted him young player of the year, an accolade that was repeated the following season.

He helped Wanderers reach the Barclays Premier League by beating Sheffield United 3-0 in the 2004 Play-Off final at Cardiff but had to sit out the next season after major knee surgery, and the team were relegated.

He returned to fitness to claim the player of the year award and was snapped up by Everton for £5million, making his Goodison debut in August 2006.

Regular accolades followed, particularly in 2007/08 when he weighed in with ten goals in all competitions.

At international level Lescott won caps at Under-18s, Under-20s, Under-21s and England B levels before being called up for the senior squad by Steve McClaren in September 2007. He made his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Estonia a month later.

In August 2009 City splashed out £22million for his services.

He was a strong contender for England's 2010 World Cup squad but his 2009/10 campaign was disrupted by injury, and when he missed the last nine games of the season Fabio Capello omitted him from the 30-strong provisional squad.

He returned to the fold under Roy Hodgson for Euro 2012 and was one of the Three Lions' most consistent performers in his three appearances in Poland/Ukraine.

Former Baggies boss Hodgson had clearly been impressed with the partnership Lescott had formed with Vincent Kompany in City's title-winning campaign in 2011/12, with the pair contributing to the best defensive record in the division.

He found fewer opportunities coming his way in his final two seasons at the Etihad Stadium due to the signings of Matija Nastasic and Martin Demichelis.

In total, Lescott has made 538 career appearances, including 30 as a substitute, scoring 39 times.[/article]

Wait. Am I reading that right? Betis' new manager is 32?
Damn. What am I doing with my life?

He actually managed Villareal in 2012-2013 and Murcia in 2013-2014, and has been coaching at lower levels (including managing the Valladolid B and Villareal B teams in the pro leagues) since 2004-2005. Remarkable!

[article=http://www.bursaspor.org.tr/bs//haber?id=18761]Bursaspor have completed the signing of Mali international midfielder Bakaye Traore from AC Milan on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old signed for the Rossoneri from Nancy in 2012 but struggled to establish himself at San Siro - spending last season on loan at Kayseri Erciyesspor.

Having made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Super Lig outfit, Traore will again ply his trade in the Turkish top flight next term.

Traore helped Kayseri Erciyesspor avoid relegation with a 14th-place finish last time out and is hopeful of enjoying a successful time with his new club, who will take part in the Europa League next term.

"I'm so glad I came to Bursaspor," he told their official website.

"I will use all my strengths to help bring success to Bursaspor.

"Bursaspor previously had the championship and I am here to repeat that. This past season, I saw how passionate the fans are. They impressed me a lot."[/article]
