Dossena's playing quite well now!
[/quote]He's never been bad over the halfway line though.

Is he playing left wing or left back? because well, they're getting exposed down the left, where Dossena is meant to be (i presume). It's all well and good putting in a half decent cross every 10minutes, but he's supposed to be a defender. Without too much hyperbole he's genuinely a sh*te full back.

If the Italians don't get a goal back soon I can see them deciding just to beat up a few of the Brazilians. Should be enjoyable!

Yes, but they're three - nil down!

Yeah, I know, but they really should be looking to save face now by grabbing a goal (and not going totally gung-ho). I don't think it's a case of "ah well, we may as well lose by 5". This is Italy, the World Champions. If they concede another 2 or 3, it'll be beyond embarrassing.

But Dossena is their best option down the left now, so there's no point in HIM staying back.

Hmmm. Good point.

Dossena played quite well, but he often just seems so sluggish, and he won't close early which is key in England.

Very happy for the US.

The effort by the US was just so much better. It helps to have been playing Egypt instead of those other 2, but they appeared much more eager to play.

What do you guys think of Donovan's showings so far? I've been pretty impressed.

It also helped the Egyptians are dealing with a really bad scandal in the form of 2400 USD spent on prostitutes at their hotel ... They're in shit ...

Most Overrated American Players of all time
1. Freddy Adu (sorry Glock)
2. Landon Donovan

No! I won't have that! There was that Cobi Jones fellow!

Haha. He was pretty dire, it has to be said.

Unlike my friend Wizzy, I actually think Landon Donovan has ability and has done well in this tournament. His problem is he's a real home boy and only plays to his full potential when surrounded by fellow Americans, and preferably in America itself.

Wasn't it that genius Ron Atkinson who decided to emulate the Ardiles/Villa coup by signing up Cobi Jones and Alexi Lalas for Coventry? Buffoon!

this will get me flamed but I'm supporting brazil from now till the final, (yes, even against spain).
I've always loved brazil even when I was really little.

South African Media: Egypt Players Were Robbed By Prostitutes, Not Burglars
The 2009 Confederations Cup has its very own mystery...

The South African media is claiming that an alleged robbery from the hotel rooms of some Egypt players on Thursday evening was nothing to do with burglars but with prostitutes.

On Friday, the Pharaohs’ team manager Inas Mazhar reported that $2,400 US had been stolen from the rooms of some players on the night the African champions defeated Italy 1-0 in the 2009 Confederations Cup.

City Press said on Sunday morning that police sources confirmed that there were no signs of forced entry and added that CCTV footage showed scantily-clad women moving around a number of hotel rooms during what seemed to be a party.

“The players must explain why their rooms were not broken into and why their room safes were not tempered with but they still lost money,“ an unnamed police source told City press.

Sunday World, another Johannesburg publication, quoted a police officer as saying, “we have confirmed that some of the players brought prostitutes whom they picked up on Oxford Road to their hotel rooms and we have strong suspicions that they were cleaned by ladies of the night.â€

Security guards who guard the hotel told the same newspaper that: “when they (the players) were robbed, they pointed their dirty fingers at hotel staff – that’s nonsense.â€

The Egyptian team spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

See, I knew there was reason for the USA debacle.

yup i mentioned this in my comment too - you don't play like that against brazil and italy, and then 'struggle' against the mighty USA socca team.

TBH they were missing Zidane.
But anyway it was a really poor performance.
Still I think they can be a real threat when they have Mido and Zaki fit.
