Yes, clutching at the thinnest straws there are and everyone will say 4th is gone, but here goes.

The next 21 days will tell us if we actually can finish 4th or not. Yes today was a huge set back. But, if everything goes our way we might still be in it.

Spurs play Arsenal (H), Chelsea (H) and Utd (A).
City play Birmingham (H), Utd (H) and Arsenal(A).

We play Fulham (H), West Ham(H) and Burnely (A).

We're trailing by 4 points behind City. IF we pick up 9 points from those games, we could find ourselves above City, and they'll have a game in hand against Spurs. That game could be massive for both clubs, and even us. In the end we might be cheering for Spurs, if the results have gone our way.

We could still nick it, and there will be some more twist and turns before the end. But it would be a great bonus to still be involved when we enter May.
City then play Villa at home when we entertain Chelsea, and have a potentially tricky tie against West Ham in the final game when we're away to Hull. 15 pints to play for, and there will be some unexpeted results. We HAVE to win our 5 remaining games and pray that there is a football God.

Still hope, although it's getting more and more bleak. But for all the things that have gone against us this season, we're due some luck in the final stages. We might not deserve it, but fuck me it would be good with a happy ending.

Hahaha, it's indeed Brendan. Hoping for 2 losses and a draw to get 4th, jeeeezzess H Christ. We deserve much better than what we're getting.

basically we need spurs and man city both to fuck up three times in 5 games with us winning our remaining games. can't see it, its done

We couldn't have asked for a better fixture list for it to happen though, still I have as the most of you come to terms with us missing out on CL.

Would be excellent if our luck changed though, and gave us some much needed help.

We need more than luck mate. We need divine intervention. And it aint gonna happen, as we are clueless on the pitch, clueless off the pitch, and do not deserve any luck.

City and Spurs both have far superior squads than us, so it would seem obvious that we might struggle to finish above them, especially if any of our better players are injured

Let's be brutally honest, not one of our rivals for the title - or even for fourth place- have had to rely on dismal fuckers like Insua, Lucas, Zorba, Eggnog, or Casper. And even our more reliable players like Kuyt and Carra have been very erratic.

In fact, who has played well this season? Reina? Torres? Possibly Masher and Magic.

That's about it

Maybe you're right mate. But if the rumours about 2 potenial suitors from the Middle East are true, then getting rid of G&H and Rafa will more than make up for not being in the CL for a year imho.

Let's at least hope we have some luck of the pitch..

Rumours about suitors from the East? From "reliable" internet sources?

Tell me, why aren't I in any way excited by this?

the only person who escapes critisism for this year is reina and maybe torres everyone else almost to a man has been poor at some stage in the season.

Liverpool are on course to secure fresh investment, or even completely new owners before the end of the season after a deadline was extended for a potential buy-out of George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

But Liverpool are set to reject a £110m deal from New York-based fund management company Rhone Group - the offer expires on Monday.

Oi!

Villa play Everton (H), Portsmouth (A) and Hull (A).

I agree that it may look very different after Man City and Spurs have played those 3 games.

i think city will finish 4th, with us 5th by a point or 2, mainly because i can't see us beating chelsea, but i suppose we need to concentrate on going into that game with a chance, ie rack up 3 good wins.

tbh, the more we're up against it, the more i'm enjoying playing the deluded optimist in the midst of the braying mob. i still think it'll be close: basically the chelsea game or bust.

I think we'll blow it in spectacular fashion.

Beat Chelsea to secure the Mancs the title => then draw away to Hull as we lose out on the final day to bring an end to Rafa's tenure.

Maybe i'm being overly negative, but as Liverpool fan of the last 20 years, winning battles but losing the wars is all I know (esp under Ged and Rafa).

The sooner we're all put out of our misery the better, we aint finishing 4th, end of.

I just hope it's all been decided by the time we play Chelsea at home.
If we beat them which hands the Title to the scum and results in them overtaking us in League's then that will just be icing on the cake to a complete cunt of a season.

i must admit i'm getting sick of being depressed. it's a pity in some ways that i had too much integrity circa 1993 to switch to man utd, as most of my school friends were happy enough to do. we do seem uniquely able to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory, never more than the disastrous handling of our search for investment. how the fuck did a club with as much going for it as us end up winning last prize in that particular raffle?

we've got more chance of finishing 4th than stopping utd overtaking our title count, whether that's this season or next, i'm sure of that.

utd already sold themselves when they floated on the stock exchange. they took the gamble, so they can't complain that they lost. we, on the other hand, actually handpicked our 2 bastards.

Yeah, it's dis-heartening. When you see the likes of Chelsea and Citeh spending money like it's going out of fashion. Arsenal builiding a new ground and a promising future. United winning. Always winning.

.. and then here's us.. the odd battle won or so, but ultimately, it's optimism followed by the cold reality. We win just enough to get our hopes up of winning the big one, but the truth is we're just not good enough in various aspects of the club.

Before last season, it was the first time I was off the "can't wait for next season" bangwagon. You know, the one on the infamous *Liverpool boom-bust cycle* Link. And then last season came, and although I thought we were incredibly lucky in some aspects (which would never continue) and although I ultimately felt we blew it, I couldn't help but feel optimism for this forthcoming season. Telling the Mancs and all who'd listen, "next year will finally be our year".

How I was wrong.. back to cold reality, once more.

Why can't we just accept the fact we can no longer qualify for CL next year however we look at it?

we needed to beat birmingham to have any chance of finishing 4th and we failed to do that. As depressing as it is 🙁 its over..

Maybe we wont feel disappointed if we realign our expectations and treat qualifying for Europe, regardless of the competition, as an achievement.

That's how disappointed I feel.
