Steve Clarke leaves Liverpool
Steve Clarke has left his coaching role with Liverpool

The 48-year-old had reportedly been keen to quit the club ever since Kenny Dalglish was fired as manager last month.

Following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers, who has took three of his coaching staff from Swansea City to Anfield, Clarke has now been granted his wish.

Clarke, who has had previous coaching spells with Newcastle United, Chelsea and West Ham United, joined the Reds in January 2011.

Speculation this evening has hinted that he is being lined up for the managerial vacancy at West Bromiwich Albion.

Some bookmakers have installed Clarke as the 6/4 favourite to fill the vacancy at the Hawthorns

I know it has been rumoured, but I'm quite surprised by this. With BR knowing him from Chelsea, I thought perhaps Clarke would have stayed on for a while.
It looks as though it is a total clean sweep.

Trouble is that, at Chelsea, Clarke was senior to Rodgers. I'm sorry he's gone, but I expected it from the moment Rodgers was appointed.

Yeah, I think that is a good shout mate. Clear the decks, impose your own way and bring in your own support staff. That way you live and die by your own decisions and there is no recourse for any existing players to use any existing staff as a sounding or scoring board against the new manager.
Under the circumstances you can see why BR has chosen to do it. I think I'd probably do the same.

Clarke was, in effect, Rodgers' boss at Chelski, so it never seemed likely that he'd now agree to be Rodgers' assistant. A pity, though, as he was a good organiser, whereas I don't have a clue about Pascoe.

Bit disappointed as i thought Rodgers would want him to stay on as they know each other from Chelsea and Clarke has a pretty good rep in the game.

In saying that, im sure Rodgers knows what he's doing.

Yeah, he's had managerial ambitions for a while. I believe Maureen even recommended him as a future Chelsea manager to Roman. (Why are we surrounded by agents of Maureen?)

Anyway, good luck to him. His training methods were meant to be really enjoyable for the players. I'd suggest he didn't work with them on shooting anywhere near enough though!

Clarke's an ex-fullback and I wonder how much he had to do with coaching the attack. Not sure who did though. If anybody.

I'm not sure– did we have an attacking coach? I think Clarke had overall responsibility for coaching the players to play to a particular tactic for each game.
