Chelsea v Liverpool Official Match Thread

Torres father said in an interview that his son wasn't likely to play on sunday, however the Chavs will no doubt want him to play imho.

Could be a great game.

I'm so looking forward for this one. We have won three in a row and are undefeated in four but still of course virtually everyone(neutrals anyway) expects Chelsea to win so there's next to no pressure on us. We can just go out and relax, play our game and see how it pans out. And I have a feeling we might just sneak it too.

Exactly, well said Oncy.

We're not chavs. The Liverpool Way is all about class and dignity.
We do not wish our opponents broken legs and injuries.
If they want to act like pricks, let them. Why descend to their level ? Moral high ground or not, how different are we to them when we act like pricks ourselves ? Torres' gone. Judging by the game against Stoke, the team and club have moved on. So why aren't we following suit too ?

We'll beat them and crush their guts by doing what we do best i.e. by playing football.
[/quote]

I wouldn't want one of our players to break his leg, not least because it would likely result in a red card. However, I wouldn't lose any sleep (and might manage a little chuckle) if he snapped his ACL.

But for me, by far the best scenario is for him to play, us to win. and our defenders to totally dominate him. And any seed of doubt we can plant in Chelsea's mind at this stage is a step closer to the ideal scenario - that they fail to qualify for the Champions League and Torres is left looking like a prize fool.

he's not the first person to come up with that idea, sociologists and behavioral economists made that observation years ago. typical chelsea fan, stealing songs, stealing abstract sociological concepts, never original 🙂

It is hardly new, n& understandably so, football simply replaces religion in a lot of peoples lives & shares many traits of major religions, Liverpool arent exclusive in that whatsoever, we just look more apparent in that as we hang on to our traditions & have more traditions than other clubs.

+1

The 3 points is more important by far

Hahaha.

Kenny:

He said: "Christian Poulsen was on the bench against Stoke but I think he tried to tie his boot lace and his back went into spasm.

"So, we didn't want to take a chance, it could have stiffened up on him. We removed him and put Danny Wilson on the bench instead.

"Joe Cole just tweaked his knee a bit in training earlier in the week. We don't know whether he will be fit enough for Chelsea. It's nothing serious. He could be fit but there's a chance he might not be."

I really wish we weren't playing them right now, there's such a good feel about the club right now, and I just think this is gonna be such an ugly and ill-feeling occasion.

Not to mention a tough game that could go drastically wrong. You just know the press are lying in wait for us to fuck up and Torres scores then they'll be all over them.

It is what it is Anita. We have to go there and forget about Torres if we can. Focus on the game. Although I'll be willing Torres to be shite of course.

you just KNOW the media are willing torres to score so they can say we sold a world class player and paid over the odds for a couple of average players.

I really don't get the fear in this "I really wish we weren't playing them right now" attitude or "you just KNOW the media are willing Torres to score" stuff.

It's just one game in a long season, 3 points is all that's at stake. If I'd paid 50m for Torres I'd play him and the media have never been onside anyway. There would be hype around this fixture whether it was now or months down the line. It's a story. That's all.

We have a new manager, new players, the prospect of more signings soon, a new or improved stadium to look forward to, no money problems etc etc; we are coming into the game off the back of 3 straight wins and 3 clean sheets, they are at home and are favourites. What fear should we have really?

We should relish these games, Chelsea at the Bridge is a good test, I'm sure the players and fans will respond. The final result will mean little in the grand scheme of things. A few glorious moments for us or them to gloat and then on to the next 'crucial' game. We need to be inspired not fearful, those days have gone.

That's almost too level-headed for my liking mate. The right approach of course but personally I wouldn't mind the following scenario:

Come Sunday:
Chelsea 0 - Liverpool 2, Suarez with both goals
*Red card Torres

Then FC Copenhagen builds a brick wall and steals an incredibly undeserved accumulated victory against the Chavs in the ChL 1/8-final.

Liverpool will somehow reach 4th in the Prem this Season and qualify for next years ChL.

We'll beat Chelsea and Torres in the Champions League final come May 2012.

Is that REALLY to much to ask?

Midfielder Christian Poulsen sustained a back spasm in the warm-up before Wednesday's match but should have recovered to take his place in the squad.

Vice-captain Jamie Carragher returned to the squad for Stoke for the first time in two months after a shoulder operation, but may have to settle for a place on the bench again.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole injured a knee in training on Tuesday and is a doubt, while Jay Spearing is out with a broken foot.

Provisional squad: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Lucas, Gerrard, Meireles, Rodriguez, Kuyt, Suarez, Gulacsi, Kyriakos, Carragher, Aurelio, Shelvey, Ngog, Poulsen, Wilson.

Did I miss anything? Thought Spearing just returned from injury not long ago?

If we win on Sunday, and its a huge "if", I will start to believe that there is hope of top four

Exactly so Jexykrodic

One of the best aspects of having Dalglish in charge is that we know he will not allow his work to be destabilised by media nonsense, and will not become obsessed with the witless output of 'journalists', as both Benitez and Houllier before him did.

We are a work in progress, and it would not surprise me at all to see us suffer setbacks because we know for a fact that certain areas of the squad are weaker than they should be.

Hell, even at our most stubborn and effective under Benitez, Stamford Bridge was hardly a place that we expected to come away from with points. A win would be great, not least to shove Torres' words back down his lying throat, but ultimately this particular game has no great significance. As long as the team keeps looking to play football, I'll still be happy at signs of progress.

Really looking forward to sunday, this game and the whole 'storyline' behind it is what makes football what it is.
Incidentally now that Neville has retired does that make Terry the most hateful player in the prem? A dirty player on and off the field!
