More utter shit from Maureen at his press conference. What a complete cunt he is.

"Every time I speak there is a consequence. Even if I say that a referee was amazing that was a reason to be given a charge. [That's because every time you open your mouth you talk complete wank you pathetic child]

"I think Chelsea fans would like Chelsea Football Club to be respected and to get the respect Chelsea Football Club deserves.
[I think the amount of respect they get is EXACTLY what they deserve]

"Chelsea fans know what Chelsea did for English football in the last 10 years. They are the most important football club in this country in European competitions. [HA HA HA HA HA HA]

"Chelsea fans think Chelsea deserve more respect than they are getting."
[Er, nope]

"I think Chelsea fans would like Chelsea Football Club to be respected and to get the respect Chelsea Football Club deserves," Mourinho said.

Club 'will help Mourinho pick squad for Liverpool'

Playing the fan champion card because he's aware that some fans are pissed at him supposedly giving up on the league title race I suppose.

My respect for Rodgers went up two notches for his fantastic presser today, just defused all Mourihno's bluster brilliantly, showing him up as the whiney, moaney cunt he is. He really has the upper hand in the so called mind games before the match.

Agree. I think Rodgers has been in a perfect zone throughout our winning streak ensuring that the streak does not add pressure to the players - and importantly to himself. He looks extremely comfortable and I am sure the players pick up on this.

I also think this quote is very clever:
"I believe if it doesn’t happen, it won’t be because of pressure. It might be that a bit of luck goes against us, or we might make a mistake, which can happen in football"

It gives the players permission to make a mistake without immediately thinking that the pressure is getting to them. It is so easy to crack after making an innocent mistake because you give too much credit to the pressure and more mistakes follow.

This is such a simple little thing, but I think Rodgers is just brilliant at embracing the situation and creating a calm, focused and confident atmosphere around him.

I could sure use a pep talk, though, because I am cracking. Maybe a little squeeze on my chin too!

TBH I'd rather he hadn't talked at all about "if it doesn't happen". Even if he was asked about that possibility, it wouldn't be hard to finesse the question.

He is an increasingly impressive media performer though.

@FreshRed
Yup - if the pics from the training ground are an indication the players look totally relaxed and confident, I think he ( and Dr Peters I suspect ) has taken the pressure off the players brilliantly during the run in, as you say above I wish he could do it for me ! I'm a jibberring wreck here!!

This pre match thread feels like its been going on for fucking years, and there's still nearly two days to go! Its like time has stood still ffs.

Agreed. I'm a wreck too. But rather that, than us doing fine and the players constantly on edge.

He could finesse it but it would be the elephant in the room. Better to address it head on and downplay the importance of the occasion.

Extracted from the report in Soccernet on Rodgers' prematch news conference:

“Jose’s a winner. He won’t give up,” Rodgers told his prematch news conference on Friday.

“There are certainly no mind games between him and me. He knows me well enough to know that it wouldn’t bother me one iota what anyone says or does.

“I saw some stuff written about them maybe fielding a weaker team. I think that’s hugely disrespectful to some of their players, if they’re deemed to be the weaker ones in the squad.

“Whatever team they put out, it will have cost more money than ours, and it will be more experienced that ours.”

Sidestepped a crude jab, feinted a punch, and landed a full-blooded upper cut.

I believe he flipped it right back round on mourinho in the mind games. I can't remember exactly what he said. But he was basically daring mourinho to play his strongest line up but then reminded him how that impacted on city when they drew with sunderland midweek. So he put it in his head that even if you are blagging about a weak lineup you could be putting the champs league at stake.

Yeah, he's excellent at interpreting the questions in a way that allows him to set the agenda. I agree that that was the one moment were he let the interviewer do that. As he has relaxed he's become much more human, and at times funny. I loved him talking about how he's never slept better. 'Mentality' is one of his favourite words, but you have to say, he seems to have a good one himself.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's because he's from county Antrim.

It's a county Antrim thing, you wouldn't understand.

My grandma lived in county Antrim for about 30 years. I understand county Antrim. I also have spent manys a day in Carnlough. I've holidayed in Portrush. I've visited the Bushmills distillery. I've been to the Northwest 200 on several occasions. I spent most weekends of my childhood in a cottage in Islandmagee. Don't you come on here from the smeggy fringes of County Antrim and tell me what I understand, mister.

Like I said, you wouldn't understand.

I've never thought Belfast should be included in County Antrim. It's like a Londoner being from Surrey or those other shit counties round there. You're a Belfastian. Not an Antrim man. Deal with it.

Belfast is hardly on the same scale as London.

You're getting a bit aggressive there, Doc.
