Chelsea Post Match Goodness..

Yes, City do look superb. I didn't expect Pep to make them so good so quickly. At this rate they will run away with the title.

Just watched the game now ... a few thoughts:

1) Ming was very solid - some great punches. Still one really stupid pass when he should have whacked it. He's gotta clean that up or Klopp will drop him.
2) I thought Clyne was good against Hazard - and that's not easy.
3) Matip, bar one mistake (to be discussed later), was really good. Have we finally found a really good CB? and for free?
4) Henderson's goal was fantastic obviously - but he's overall performance was good. He's a good player, who seems to be getting his fitness AND confidence back.
5) Studge looks less fit than he did against Leicester. He tried hard though - and it seems he's giving 100% most of the time.
6) Their goal - I think the blame lies here with Lallana and Matip. Lallana had to follow Matic - and he let him go. But I'm not sure what Matip did going to ground so easily? Stay up - and that's probably not a goal.
7) Very impressed with how the team held the lead - maturity? more confidence? Dunno but I was convinced we'd draw 2-2 ... Great great win.
8) Lucas's foul on Hazard ... Fuck's sake man, fuck's sake.
9) Origi should have scored - but I'm a bit concerned that he doesn't look as imposing as he was last season.

I don't know, I think a big improvement was inevitable. I look at it more from the Pelligrini angle. He managed such an impressive Villarreal side, I'm still struggling to understand why he made so many bad decisions at City. They seriously underperformed in the last couple seasons and were pretty much just waiting on someone to come and straighten things out.

They're probably going to win the league. They've probably got the best player in the league in De Bruyne.

The big challenge for City and Pep will be in the CL I think. City desperately want to prove themselves in Europe.

  1. Agreed, but with teams pressing us high up the pitch his distribution, ballcontrol and passing must be better. He almost messed up yesterday.
  2. Agreed, hasn't been given enough plaudits though he kept Hazard quiet. Our steady Eddie with poor crossing.
  3. He was terrific imo. Their goal was partly his fault but he saved us from conceeding too with his blocks. He kept Costa at bay and he also occupied Cahill which lead to Lovren's goal.
  4. Henderson was great. However, he get's turned too easily at times and I really don't like it when he goes passive like he did for their goal.
  5. Sturridge was isolated for most of the game. Matic and Kanté were not about to let us just bypass their midfield. Coutinho was held and dragged down a few times during the game while he tried to break through. Sturridge did a lot of running though.
  6. Agree it's mostly on Lallana and Matip but Henderson should have possibly done something as well. He just stood there.
  7. Yeah, sigh of relief there after the final whistle.
  8. Can't give Lucas a break here, he fucked up. Whoever it was dived, but Lucas shouldn't have put a foot in there. Luckily nothing came of it.
  9. I've been wondering why Origi isn't getting as much game time as he did towards the end of last season. He looks sloppy and out of form imo. There's no debate atm, Sturridge and Firmino are well ahead of him. And Ings, well I wouldn't be surprised if he's sold by January. He has missed a lot football since last year but he's too good to not be involved at all. Ousting Sturridge, Firmino or Origi? It's gonna take a lot.

@Modo - Hazard dove to get Lucas booked. He left his left leg trailing - smart move, and grateful for a shite free kick (was it handball?)

Origi should start against Derby - just to get back into match shape.

Two things I forgot to mention that impressed me:

1) Coutinho fought for the ball in between Matic and I think ivanovic and get ahead of them. It's overlooked a lot, but that kid is as strong as a tank.
2) Matip's one run when a better pass would have seen him one on one with Courtois ... When was the last time we saw our CB do that?

What? Any cunt can win the league at Man City. Mancini and Pellegrini managed it.

All this latest cunt has done is come in, take the most expensively assembled and highly paid squad in the country, and spend another 175m on it

Fucking big wow

Manwithnoname - just done the analysis - they had 15 points after first five games last season too. They will tire.

Yeah, and I guess that accusation is always going to surround Guardiola – he had Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in their prime at Barca, Bayern's squad was head and shoulders above the competition in Germany and now he has inherited the best squad in the country again. However, there is hardly anyone better at making all those superstars work within a system and also I think Guardiola is one of the most influential managers tactically – that "new midfield" shtick I wrote about has been largely popularized and perfected by him (although you could say the real inventor was Bielsa).

He was brought there to win the CL.
We'll see if he can pull that one off. Failed at Bayern.
I really hope they focus on the CL.

I hate the canonization of managers like Pep and Jose.

Lets see the cunts keep Bournemouth in the premier league, or have Hull compete to get promoted from the championship.

I agree totally with Brendan, Pep is going to be fucking sucked off all season by the british press simply for putting 10 x 50m players on the pitch and letting them win.

Guardiola said that Bournemouth were the best team City have played so far that season. Absolutely superb dig at Mourinho and scum.

He probably felt sorry for them and was trying to give encouragement to their young manager who is not doing that well right now or maybe they were trying to attempt that tiki-taka bollox that he likes to see but then he is the master of it and probably wants everyone to play like that so he can win all the time. But yeah - dig at Jose is good but at the same time probably worried in case every team sets up against him like Burnley did against us.

People want to believe if you have money you can do anything - teams like Leicester winning kind of sends the wrong message in this materialistic world we live in. No good for football.

6. He probably thought the cross was coming in earlier than it did and his actions anticipated that. He would have had no time to react if it had. I don't think many thought Matic would take it to the line. Great play.

9. I thought Origi did everything right. No angle from 3m out to go across the keeper and he headed it down, low and towards the corner of the goal. It was a world-class save just a foot high and off the line.

I think the commentator got that one right .... the deflection took all the pace off the ball and so Origi couldn't generate much power from it.

Doesn't seem to be the case, does it? He started his LFC career somewhat cautiously, but was improving little by little in each game. Last night was the first time he looked truly dominant for some periods of the game.

Going back to my post about the shift towards attacking players in modern football, before this season I could never have imagined that we could go to Stamford Bridge with the central midfield 2 of Henderson and Wijnaldum and not just avoid disaster, but actually totally outplay their midfield (for most of the game).

Was it @Woland who said not long ago he wished we had Kante instead of "Horrenderson"? 🙂

Mate, I got slaughtered on here for years for arguing (correctly) that central midfield pairings weren't that important anymore. Nobody stuck up for me. Not you anyway with your fancy I told you so's 4 years afterwards either.

I think it was probably because you used players like the 'Rolls Royce' of modern midfield players, Joe Cunting Allen, to fortify your point, thus totally invalidating it.

Glad Shearer singled Wijnaldum out for praise. Thought he was flawless in the middle of park. Won his tackles, kept the moving quickly and accurately and covered really well. Very encouraging performance by him given some of the criticism he's received as being a bit of a non entity thus far.

I thought Matip was great but I'm surprised he hasn't received more flack for their goal. Why did he commit himself so easily?

It was all round poor from the team, Lallana was the main culprit, Henderson could have done more, Matip shouldn't have gone to ground, Lovren should have covered Costa, and Milner really should have cleared it off the line. We're always prone to these stupid team meltdowns defensively, what I take solace from this time though is that it only came after an absolutely superb run from Matic, we should have defended much better, but at least we didn't gift them a goal from out of no where, as we normally do.

The thing is, Klopp was on it straight away, and talked about several players being on their arse in the penalty area being unacceptable. Matip seems like a learner. He's going to be boss.

Despite the error that led to Chelsea's goal I was impressed by the team being able to weather the storm and to go on and nullify their threat.

We ended the game on the front foot and looked comfortable.

Yeah I get people didn't track runs etc but a centre back cannot gamble like that and fall to his arse. He was very good bar that.

Check out Moses reaction to Hendo's goal.
