[article=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24533872]Carlisle manager Graham Kavanagh wants a deal with Liverpool for some of their youngsters to train with the Cumbrians.

Kavanagh recently played Liverpool's Craig Roddan and Jakub Sokolik in a behind-closed-doors game with Rangers.

"It's something I'm trying to do as I know [Liverpool coach] Mike Marsh," Kavanagh told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We're hoping for a situation where if there are players on the periphery of their under-21s, then we could have a little bit of a look at them."

Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Kavanagh took temporary charge of the Cumbrians in September and after three consecutive wins was appointed Greg Abbott's permanent successor.

Since then, he has made one addition to the Carlisle squad with the loan signing of 22-year-old Blackpool striker Nathan Eccleston - a Liverpool academy graduate.

"Like with Craig and Jakub, where Liverpool are undecided on them, we really give ourselves a platform going forward," Kavanagh added.

"The lads would already know about us and we would have had a first-hand glance at them so it really puts us ahead of the game if these players become available.

"Next summer we definitely want to freshen up our youth team. We need some players in behind the first-team that we can then develop and improve so there's a little more focus on long-term planning."[/article]

[article=http://www.cumberlandnews.co.uk/liverpool-duo-play-for-carlisle-utd-in-game-at-rangers-1.1090645]Carlisle United manager Graham Kavanagh ran the rule over two Liverpool academy players in today's reserve friendly at Rangers.

The Blues boss included Anfield prospects Jakub Sokolik and Craig Roddan, both 20, as a United XI won 5-1 in the behind-closed-doors match.

Both were recommended to Kavanagh by Liverpool coaches Alex Inglethorpe and Mike Marsh.

Kavanagh was impressed with their displays in the victory at Murray Park and will continue to monitor the pair.

“Both of them did very well,” the Carlisle manager told the News & Star.

“It will be a case of having an ongoing look at them now as they continue with Liverpool’s Under-21s.”

Former Banik Ostrava youngster Sokolik is a Czech centre-half and Roddan a Liverpudlian central midfielder, with both having featured regularly for the Anfield Under-21 side.[/article]

I'm not really sure what having 'an ongoing look at them' means. Does he want to take them on loan? There are surely better clubs who'd give those two a chance, especially Roddan, if we wanted to send them somewhere.

Seeing as Coady is on loan at a club below Carlisle, I'm not sure Roddan will get a loan move to a Championship club and still get regular minutes. Coady plays regularly for Sheffield Utd, which I guess is preferable to sitting on the bench in the Championship - Roddan will probably end up the same?
