Allison made two or three brilliant saves there, & as those ratings say, his positioning made it look easy.

I'm sick of hearing commentators say he makes an easy save when 9 times out of 10 that shot goes in against another keeper.

He makes it look easier than it is by almost always being in the right place.

I know I'm in the minority, but I honestly believe Lovren is the better centre back, albeit with the caveat (twice I've used that word this morning) that if he could play as he has the last couple of games consistently then I'd agree.

Lovren is much more aggressive for me, & is much better in the air too.

I assume the fact he is rarely available for a few games on the bounce means Klopp has had enough of Lovren though, which combined with matips recent form is more than fair.

Lovren's problem is he has a fuck up or two in him every game and he is not very smart. He is too full of himself as well letting his "I am the man" emotions drag him into challenges he have no business getting involved in.

He is certainly more agile, quicker and can dominate but Matip is not far off in these attributes as we have witnessed in the past 10-15 matches. Matip has the height, seems to keep a cool head mostly, and most importantly he doesn't do fuck ups. Add to those attributes, his recent Agger impression means he has Lovren displaced easy.

I'd be amazed if Klopp spends big on a centre back with Hoever waiting to break into the side, he needs to know there's a route for him into the first team.

VVD & Gomez first choice, Matip & Hoever to fight it out for third or fourth choice. One other capable CB who is of similar ability will be fine. Ideally I'd say keep Lovren but don't think he'll be happy being benched most weeks, & regardless, he's an awful back up option, cos when you need to him he's invariably injured or 'ill', the lad has never played more than 7 games in a row for us I believe.
I agree to an extent, however if de Ligt was available, having a defence of Virgil, de Ligt and Hoever breaking in at RB, would be too much for us to pass up.

I think Trent may make a play for Midfield next year, freeing up that RB slot, with him filling in on emergencies.

I can't see TAA moving into midfield. Our full backs are more important to us than they are to other sides, & our midfield is well stocked.

Against Cardiff?

He had 1 routine save over the bar and that was it?

I thought he got lucky today with the corner he flapped at, could easily have been 1-1

Just because they might have scored doesn't mean that we'd suddenly stop playing. Yes, it could have been a draw, but we could also have scored another goal as well.

I'd like to see how Matip does when VVD isn't playing to see how good he is, (actually I wouldn't).

I reckon Virgil will make anyone look better than they really are. Lovren and Matip weren't good enough before he came, and they are only good enough now because of who they are playing beside. We need better.

Why does Lovren still keep fucking up when Virgil is playing next to him?
I've said it before, Lovren has a higher ceiling than Matip, but he's too erratic for my liking.

Defo rather have Matip vs a Messi than Lovren

Matip is a better CB then Lovren when it comes to how they are suited to the team and Klopps approach.
I also think he's a better suited to be Virgils partner.

Lovren might be more aggressive, better header of the ball and can make those crunching tackles.
But its also those attributes that gets him into trouble on a regular basis.
Matips game intelligence and positioning is much much better then Lovren and lately he’s been pretty much flawless in defence.
Still gets bullied a bit to easily and heads the ball like a U-9s girl.

I have noticed that commentators love to pick on any slight error by Alisson, like they want to really pick on him. He did make some very good saves yesterday but they never say that was world class etc like they would for that united keeper.

They've been butthurt ever since Hart's decline
