Capital One Cup - West Brom build up thread.

I shall hang my head in shame for just using the word just, I should have used a chain of adjectives.

I'm not sure if we are all feeling slightly delusional as a result of all he crap we have had to put up with one thing and another but there is something beautiful about a small Spanish chap taking 3 defenders out of the game with nothing more than a shimmy and perfectly weighted pass!

Suso deserves a ton of credit, but so does Sinclair his diagonal run across Suso and then back across the central defenders opened the space for Assaidi. It was a very mature piece of running for 16 year old on the pitch for a minute or two. Suso found the right pass, but Sinclair created the space.

Stop, stop, please. I can't fap anymore.

Did I say that we should drop Gerrard? I basically said that if he isnt playing well we have options on the bench.
I've actually been defending Gerrard in other threads.
Sorry man - I must have read it wrong. No worries.

What makes me smile is that Şahin is at maybe 70-75% fitness/game speed, can't wait for 100%.

My thoughts exactly. In the game against Arsenal he was probably below 50% and in hindsight that was a mistake by Rodgers to play him in that game. I think Şahin even at 75% can already be useful as a first-team player and I fully expect him to replace Shelvey for the next 2 games. In fact, when Shelvey comes back from suspension, he might find his place in the first team is already gone for good.

Interesting stat : Jamie Carragher made his #LFC debut when @jeromeNo9 was 4 months old

Demetris Ioannides on Twitter: "Jamie Carragher has played 555 more games for Liverpool than all his teammates tonight put together."

🙂

The great thing about that performance last night was seeing the levels through the club playing the Rodgers way. The kids seemed to be born to play that slick passing game.

And I dont think its been mentioned, but this wasnt some scratch side playing against an endsleigh scoper like Bury or Southend. It was AWAY against the team 4th in the league West Brom. They are currently ahead of Spurs, Arsenal and Citeh.
And our kids took them to the fucking cleaners.

Mr Rodgers can keep raping them as far as im concerned. His bummin is sound.

Been saying for a while that Gerrard should be benched for a game, Gerrard has to earn his place in the side just like everyone else.

Massively encouraged this morning. The kids have got to keep on the way they've started, of course, but if they do we are defo going places.

I don't want to dampen the good mood as I was feeling pretty positive about things after the game as well but even during the game when people kept talking about 'kids' it did make me think:

Jones - been around the block
Robinson - inexperienced kid
Carra - very experienced at the top level
Coates - 7.5M purchase with international experience
Wisdom - inexperienced kid
Assaidi - experienced purchase
Sahin - Bundesliga title winner that's come via Real Madrid
Henderson - 16M purchase that's had a fair bit of Prem experience
Downing - 20M purchase that's been around for ages
Pacheco - Inexperienced but 21 now.
Yesil - inexperienced kid

So really you can only say that 3/4 of the side are "kids" in the sense that they're inexperienced and out of the reserves, which is certainly what I think of when someone says "kids". I was saying this the other day - the squad does feel a bit threadbare but when you look at the kind of players we can put out in this type of game, well, you'd expect them to do well against a second string West Brom team.

This coming on the back of a MOTM performance against the scummers? Club captain and probably one of the best midfielders in the world. A couple of early season rusty performances and you want to bench him? I'm staggered. Please tell me your joking...... PLEASE!!!!!

He's not one of the best midfielders in the world anymore, we need to stop kidding ourselves about that, and yes you're right about the United game, he was good, so he deserves to play against Norwich. However if he continues the form he showed in the first few games, we have Suso, Sahin, Shelvey, Henderson who are all in good form, I don't care who the player is, if they don't perform they should be replaced with someone who is performing.

For the trillionth time, he plays well when he's rested every other game at least.

Shelvey being blooded in was plan B. Plan C is Sahin methinks.

Plan C for Sahin? He's a top class player, coming from Real to get more games. Some of our fans seem to underrate him pretty badly. Second fiddle to Jonjo? Come on.

I think the point was more that those that had a significant impact were the newbies and or kids. I get your point though.

Coates, Assaidi etc are kids in my mind ... They may have experience elsewhere, but they're young and can be blocks in the puzzle. I see your point but when you're average age is under 24, and a bench under 19 ... it's 'kids' essentially.

I'm not kidding myself. He might not be the marauding/dynamic midfielder that would bomb into the box of 2007. That's obvious but he is class personified. His movement and passing is outstanding still. His tacking is still good. The fact that he has been able to adapt to BR style of play speaks volumes. I know what you mean about options but for me (when fit) his name is first on the team sheet. One day that might not be the case I grant you. That time is not now though.
