what the media headlines would be like if we had Rafa in charge ?

We just had a transfer window where we signed no senior players. I think that might be the first time that has ever happened.

Why isn't Kenny in the media talking about how he's not being backed and how he wanted to buy player x but wasn't given the funds ? Is he secure enough in himself to know he doesn't have to create bullshit excuses to justify his position ? Or does he simply respect the Liverpool way ?

The point being, when people talked about the media circus and "instability" created by the constant media stories under Rafa you failed to acknowledge where a lot of those stories came from. We've now got a manager who genuinely puts the club first, not his reputation.

It's probably because it's his first proper year in charge of the club (in PL) and he had already blown loads of money on mediocre players during the last transfer window?

I think it's because he's got some class.

Rafa also had "class" until the 3rd or 4th season. Something did happen.
But I don't expect Dalglish to go and whine in the press.

I could imagine Rafa as our manager again after Dalglish. He is a fantastic football manager, though poor media relations.

He's also fat and doesn't do "arm around the shoulders" with players.

But he can take the ball down with precision control and make stuff flash across your TV screen.

Maybe he got fat at winner's banquets and his arms were occupied with trophies?

By that rationale he should have lost some weight between 2007-2010.

Fat is fine, but you are right on the man management bit, Rafa was always very cold and calculating with the players, and that has been more and more apparent with the way Dalglish manages things, it's a fine line you have to tread between being the boss and a mate, but players respond to it far better. As has been said Dalglish is a far better media person too, he can have a joke with them, take this piss out of them and be a stubborn bastard when the needs arise

Why not? Rafa is so much into statistics.

I would imagine it will be very hard for Rafa to get another management job anywhere, regardless of how good a manager he is or he is not. Any chairman of El Presidente that looks at Rafa's usual modus operandi of Machiavellian manoeuvring and manipulation using the fans as a tool against the board would be mad to take him on unless things were really desperate.

I think he will get another job somewhere, as long as he actually wants one. His record will go a long way towards mitigating those other factors to which you (rightly) refer. The main reason I don't think FSG specifically will ever take him on is that they'll want a younger man. They took some persuading to sign Kenny up, and in fact if Hodgson hadn't made such an almighty mess of things I don't think Kenny would have got the job at all.

It's times like these I think back to the oh so happy days when Rafa and Robbie were at our club

VLAD, surely rafa did those things here because the situation was just so dire here. H&G would not have brought out the best in anyone. And he did us a favor. Otherwise we'd have fecking klinsmann. Roscoe how sharper than a serpents tooth...

Life is full of ups and downs. To negate our best manager in 20 years just because it wasn't all peachy I will never get.

We've just had our quitest transfwer window that probably anyone can remember, and there hasn't been any massive complaints by anyone. The point I'm is people take their cue from the manager, if the manager is a maniacal bellend then a good chunk of the fans become similar.

Thankfully we have a calm level headed manager who knows what is and isn't possible and doesn't complain when the impossible doesn't happen (and then use that as an excuse as to why he failed).

Localny - you realise that the only reason Klinsmann was contacted was because Rafa was threatening to quit in yet more of his posturing. One day, when you take an objective look at all of the facts you'll realise all Rafa cared about was himsel. I'm delighted we have a manager who has the best interests of the club at heart.

Yeah there are no bellends following this club now Kenny's in charge.

I love the way fans keep saying that Kenny's bought loads of mediocre players. Loads? Really? When Rafa bought duds it was blamed on the board, by him and his sternest supporters.

In my eyes Kenny has bought one "dud" in Downing and in Carroll it could go either way (although promising couple of games). The rest have ranged to okay whilst showing great potential (Henderson, Coates) to decent (Adam) to fantastic (Enrique, Bellamy) to god damn sentational (Suarez). As you say, Rafa did much worse.

Yes it was. The bad signings were always 'someone else's' signing and all we heard about was how Benitez actually wanted someone different.

Benitez is a very good manager as long as everything goes his way all the time. If it doesn't he tends to lash out and blame everyone else.

As has been said I don't see him getting a new job in a hurry. Partly because he might not even want one but also because club owners will be wary. It would cost a fortune to keep him happy and even then if things went wrong you'd have him shouting about it in the press every week. Yes he's had some great success to point to but the further back that becomes the less relevant it is.

Rosco - how goes it? Listen we clearly needed a striker this window. At minimum. We've had a nkce run of three big games - and that is the only reason there has been no gnashing of the teeth. IMHO nothing to do with the manager's p's and q's.

As for objectivity, maybe he was a me feiner, but I still get giddy remembering mid week CL games from 2005-2009.

I'm sorry, but having read Brian Reade's book, I can't for the life of me see how you can think rafa somehow brought it on himself.

I'm not sure I would have wanted a docile, compliant manager with those 2 in charge. Kenny had a more stable ownership structure. Can you imagine how he would have reacted to them? Apples and oranges.

Yes Rafa signed dross but he also signed masher, alonso, Torres and more. Every manager signs dross - its just kenny's signed his "veron" in the first month!
