I was hoping the intense three sessions a day pre-season training programme would lead to a different attitude, but I haven't seen it so far. True, we pressed like mad in the Arsenal game at a high tempo, but then played slow and sluggishly in the Burnley game. That happened a lot last season and one tended to put it down to the players having lacked a proper pre-season to get the fitness and understanding needed to make Klopp's system work on a consistent basis. I know it's just two games into this season, so there's a need to stand back and be patient, but consistent, game-to-game, intensity and tempo was what I was hoping to see this season. Last season it was as if after every one game's exertion the players thought, 'Right, time for a breather...' We can't have that mentality continuing into this season.
I just hope we play a proper team against Burton and smash them. No one needs a rest at this stage of the season, and we need an immediate (re)statement of intent for our own confidence more than anything.
