Burnley (H) - Post Match

Even Clattenberg disagrees with Dyche:

There is no doubt that Ashley Westwood’s opening goal for Burnley at Liverpool should have been ruled out.

As Westwood’s corner swings in, Burnley defender James Tarkowski comes across Alisson and jumps with his arms on the goalkeeper’s shoulders.

This clearly impedes Alisson’s ability to punch the ball or attempt to catch it.

Any contact on the arms of goalkeepers as they attempt to jump should always be given as a foul.

Is Trent injured? Saw a post on twitter that he limped off at the end of the game?

I don't think there's anything serious. By the way, he's now fashioning himself 'Trent Arnold,' which is promising for those who want to have his name on their shirt.

Trent Arnold just sounds like it's being said by a Chinese person, the last name first.

Arnold Trent, now that's a name. Trent Arnold, not so much.

Good stuff from Lallana, because he's a good player who has got it all technically and he'll put in a shift too. Shame his injuries have really hampered his time with us. A couple of seasons ago with him and Gini in midfield, we were able to turn defense into attack quickly.

Mane has been brilliant this season, I'd say more so than Salah, while Bobby also looked alot better today and capped it off with goals too. Fantastic ball from Sturridge for the final goal, it has to be said.

That Sturridge ball..is the sort of ball that sets him apart from the rest. He has vision to his game, which is why he and Suarez were so good together.

I know Firmino has taken a bit of a beating this week, and has delivered some under par performances and not enough goals. But he is an integral part of our attack.
37 assists so far for us, thats quite something.

Good to see him score 2 goals today.

Dyche is utterly delusional:

“It’s one of those isn’t it? We come away to one of the big boys and we’re unlucky with the decisions. Those go our way and we snatch a point. Mané should be off in the first half for his headbutt on Phil. Ashley Barnes got no protection or McNeil. Disappointing.”

That's a pretty unbelievable quote, sounds like a parody of Mourinho or something. I preferred him when he was using his mouth for eating worms instead of talking

In fairness I can understand the confusion with the headbutt. Sadios forehead starts somewhere around the crown of his head so any contact looks like hes sticking the loaf of somebody.

I'm surprised Klopp hasn't used him more in the withdrawn role, his vision is second to none, even is his workrate is non-existent, it's a useful option later on in games.

I think Sturridge needs space to be effective – not that he himself would run into it, but he can draw defenders to himself and find teammates like few others in this team can. So yeah, late in games (when we're winning) seems a perfect way to use him.

On a related topic, I am starting to think that Mane and Salah are simply not very good at finding the killer pass and maybe they should stop trying to produce one so often and instead just use their pace to get into space and shoot. They are constantly overplaying, trying to play Firmino-style football, but they are not Bobby. Do you remember a moment in the 2nd half when Mane received the ball on the edge of the area with his back to goal and instead of trying to play a cute one-two and losing the ball like always, he unexpectedly turned to his left, drove into the penalty area and hit a powerful shot? I think this is what he and Mo should be doing much more often: simplify their games and just focus on striking the ball cleanly. When Sturridge came on, it was striking how much better he is at finding a killer pass than those two, both in vision and execution – just a reminder of what a player he was when he could run.

Sturridge is like a golfer who has all the shots but cant execute them in the right sequence. His technique and vision are superb but hes so one paced it makes him very easy to defend against. He really should have tried to reinvent himself as a no10 a few years ago when it became clear his speed was gone for good.

The money Dyche is on you’d think the moany cunt would buy a new tie to replace that purple one.

He should at least be able to tie it so it doesn't just float there way above his belt, the great fool.

Henderson not playing and us scoring goals and winning is an actual thing now. From our last six he's started three and we've scored none. The three he hasn't started we've scored twelve.

I thought we were lucky yesterday with our goals.

Heaton spilled the first.
Lallana with an out of this world tackle which fell nicely to our player.
Heaton with a bad kick.
Mane in space which will not be available to us 99% of the time if it was still 0-0.

The front 3 are still stuttering make no mistake. None of their combination came off. We need them in top form if we are to win the double.

Lallana’s tackle is 100% something that comes from Klopp’s footballing philosophy and something that would not have happened with another manager. Thus not lucky.
Mane in space might not have happened at 0-0. But it was not. They were chasing the game and we took advantage with a counter attack. Thus not lucky.
To be honest the Heaton spilled goal I wouldn’t class as lucky either. It came from Salah brilliantly getting behind the defence and squaring the ball.

We weren't anywhere near our imperious best yesterday.

That's fine though, cos we won. That's literally all that matters at the moment.

We had long spells of that second half (from 50 minutes onwards excluding that sloppy goal basically) where we controlled the game & played some great football, with the final ball or finish just being lacking.

The front three will start firing properly again, everyone knows it, it's just a question of when.

It's hard to be too critical though, cos citeh looked like they could play all day without scoring against a second string Watford side on Saturday until they got the offside goal & then found a bit of confidence in front of goal, that following two one nils in which they also didn't look like actually scoring despite all the possession they had.

The pressure is getting to both sides IMO, & is manifesting itself in players second guessing their natural instincts in front of goal.

Salah needs two chances like the ones Bobby got to help him find his swagger again - it feels like he is doing everything right bar the shooting aspect of his game.

Lallana's tackle was 100% luck. You make your own luck they say, he made his but it is still luck that it fell to our player in good area. He meant to tackle but he never meant for it to drop to Salah.

Heaton was coming off a good run of form. He hadn't made any mistakes since he came back from injury and was very impressive. He made 2 yesterday, poor basic mistakes that resulted in goals for us.

Mane's was off a counter attack. We never had any problems when opponents decide to give us that much space. It is the breaking down organized opponents that has been the problem. As with our recent 0-0s and 1-1s.

None of the goals yesterday tells me we are any better able to breakdown an organized defence then when we faced Everton or the Scums. We had the rub of the green that's all. It's part of the game yes, luck is as well but let's not pretend we are all free scoring again.

Yeah we won, that's all that matters. I would take this for the next 8 games obviously. But if we look at it objectively, it wasn't our best game. I thought we played better overall against Everton despite not scoring.

Burnley had good spells in the second where we were just clearing the ball anywhere. We need to be more composed than that when we are protecting a lead and these guys are not Barcelona. We weren't, we were nervous. You could see us playing more freely when the 3rd goal went in and it came via a keeper cock up.

All our combination plays were not working out. We didn't control the midfield very well, second half was too open. Lallana was our best player but he shouldn't be because he has barely played. Someone playing week in week out should have been driving us forward. But the rest of them were mostly mediocre.

Let's hope we do better against Bayern.

I felt this game showed our attackers playing with an intensity that we didn't show (or couldn't show) against Everton. Our press was better, we were more direct and I reckon stats around number of sprints would show it too. It's a shame it took us to go 0-1 down to turn it on but great to see that we could switch into full on attack mode.

Been a bit deflated since United & Everton...the whole losing our lead generally thing, but I like really liked that performance yesterday. Could've easily let our head's drop after going behind early on with such an unjust goal etc, but we kept probing and got ourselves back on terms then got a vital second before half-time. Well known the conditions were awful so didn't exactly help matters, same conditions for Burnley but if it was going to suit one of the two, I'd be them all day long.

So, yeah, really pleasing all in all.

It was good to hit 4 against the first of the dregs we have during our run in. Hopefully that is the start of 6 wins against the bottom 6.

I enjoyed seeing thugs like Barnes getting thrown round by Virgil. I think Oncy said that we aren’t a team to be bullied anymore. That’s something we’ve had to get used to over the years. A weak team. Now with VVD and Fabinho in the middle third of the pitch we aren’t as soft. Robertson and TAA seem game for a fight too. I like it.
