What's going on there? The manager wasn't at the last game. Apparently he stormed off during training and pretty much told the players to go fuck themselves (our Stewart being one of the culprits apparently). @Pesam you're the lower league expert. Any more detail on this? Strange on. They're in a good position in the league.

He's gone already mate. Announced on BBC Sport yesterday whilst I was listening to the rugby.

No idea what happened. Very weird timing - the fans are furious.

No he hasn't.

Boro said he wasn't taking training over the weekend and that be wouldn't be In the dugout for the Charlton match .

At this point he's still there though

Sounds like Karanka lost it and then later regretted it. But I can see his point about Downing, if its true Gibson wanted to sign him and Karanka wasnt to keen. That wont usually have a good outcome.

If Boro end up blowing their chance of getting promoted due to this then that wont reflect to good on Gibson either.

Maybe they'll go for Pearson if Karanka is dismissed, he could get them on track again.

Sounds like the fans are on Karanka's side with this one. It's weird as they are/were in a good position in the league, then one dodgy result vs Rotherham and he wants to do one?

It's quite strange, but fairly amusing also.

Odd that timid Stewart Downing appears to be central to many of the stories.

It's a weird one for sure Aidan and the fans never saw it coming. I was casting an eye over a Middlesbro forum about a week ago and, although there was a bit of moaning about their current form, the vast majority of fans still thought Karanka was going to take them up and there were no murmurs of internal strife.

About 7 or 8 weeks ago they had a midweek game that, if they had won, would have put them 10 points clear! Since then the wheels have fallen off and this has coincided with Ayala's injury. Previously they had a problem scoring goals but because they hardly ever conceded (at one stage they went 9 games without conceding!) they usually manage to win 1-0 or at least get a draw. Since Ayala's injury they've only won 2 or 3 out of their last 10 or 12 games. Then again apart from Burnley nobody at the top end of the table is in good form and Middlesbro should still finish in the top 2.

Downing's form has been very poor since Xmas and should have been dropped ages ago and maybe this might be the contentious point with karanka maybe being told Downing has to play. I haven't had a chance to go on any Middlesbro forum since last week so I'm a bit in the dark but will look into it later.

Ah then I must have misheard or misunderstood what was said on the BBC - background radio whilst surfing (not porn) !

Hmmm, but what about Rhodes too?....I'm not seeing many others in the championship who'd sign a player for £9m and then not pick him in half the games

Apparently he didn't want Rhodes, he wanted McCormack.
They'd had Rhodes up there previously, and McCormack interest only seemed to surface when Rhodes was dicking around with his contract, so that sounds like internet nonsense....

.............as if any professional club would have open dissent between the manager, and an owner-created body (lets call it a "transfer committee" or some such), charged with making signings

Talking of stalled Championship promotion bids, Diamond Geezer 'Arry Redknapp is in talks with Derby about 'an advisory senior coaching role'

I wait with bated breath for his first statement, in which his genuine lack of interest in the manager's job will be outlined very early on, along with his sincere desire to 'just help out and give a bit of advice, lend some experience, when asked'

A statement on Aitor Karanka....

Middlesbrough Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Aitor Karanka will be resuming first team duties with the club with immediate effect.

We have 10 games left this season and as a club we are fully focussed on what remains of our Championship campaign.
