Blame.

They closed us down well... we seem to lack a little bit freshness, and that is the nature of law and not anything we can really blame a or b about. Its a thin squad that has been stretched far. Hopefully we can squeeze a little more juice out of them!

We've got the flair of the old title winning teams but sadly not the nous. Those teams, at this stage, would approach such a game by saying, 'We need a minimum of a point? Okay, we'll get a minimum of a point'. And they'd probably nick all three if there was a chance to do so. That performance yesterday typified the Barca/Bayern witlessness against Chelski-style tactics - it's like a fly constantly flying into an opened window. Every time you sit and watch and know what's probably going to happen, and sure enough there's that soulless shit Torres popping on to score or set up the breakaway goal. You need to THINK at this stage. That's more important than huddles and stupid hashtag catchphrases.

We knew how they would play it beforehand. But we couldn't work it out or make a break through. I firmly believe that without Stevie's slip we would have got the point we needed. As much as winning the game would have been ace, not losing the game was the priority.

Yeah, I thought this fact was forgotten not just by most fans but by the team as well. It was a tantalising target - to take the title by winning 14 matches in succession to finish the season. Winning it almost became secondary to beating everyone in our path.

I'd never admit it to any Chav scum supporters but if we still win the title I think this loss will take a little away from the achievement. It will always be a comeback that this Russian play thing did the double over us and as much as I'll laugh it off with bluster and bravado I think it will stick in my throat a little. A draw was all we need and, against a team of zero attacking intent, this approach would have served us best anyway.

All that said, we didn't get beat because of our reckless attack. We were in complete control and conceded through a freak mistake and not because we were taking risks.

Liverpool tried to do what we've done all during this run, all season actually. Attack, and score goals. Yeah you could say it was a bit naïve at times, like if we hadn't been so gung ho one of the centre backs would have been covering gerrard when he slipped, but I'm proud of the team ethic and I wouldn't change a thing. We're going to dominate football for years to come with this philosophy and I for one cant wait for it.....

With a few better players and more experience we'll be able to afford to clip a few hurdles as we'll be so far ahead at this stage of the season

If we win the title I won't give the tiniest fuck that they did the double over us to be honest.

This to me is the key, and it applies to Brendan and to the players equally. To get the glory days going again we need to play predominantly attacking football, but we need to be cuter at times as well, yesterday being a prime example. I'm convinced we're on the right road, but we aren't quite there.

Yet.

I didn't think that we played that way until the 2nd half... In the first half I thought we were patient and probing without doing too much, but also without risking much - It was a slip that cost us, not a highly risky move or tactic. No?

Thing is when we try that being cuter stuff were not really any good at it, we like to attack and it works, when we try and sit back for a bit and be patient it usually ends up with us scrambling around and under pressure just like Norwich last week, i think the biggest issue of all is the squad size, it has finally caught up with us.

We're also a young team with a manager finding himself in a new situation.
What we lack from the more experienced title winning teams is learned by defeats like yesterday.

I thought we had it pretty much under control until the that slip from Gerrard.

Yeah we did, its strange to read people going on about us being too attacking when we were under no pressure from them at all and had it well under control, Chelsea would have opened up in the 2nd half as well if it wasn't for them getting the goal.

Agree on the points regarding the draw being a result we should have gone out accepting the chance of. I got the impression we weren't up for that and would only accept that should we be pulled back after going ahead. I don't think we set up with the strategy of not conceding. They had very few attacking threats on the field, we could and should have kept them at bay easily as they were never going to attack.

They are the first team to come that I think have been told not to try and score unless it is 2 front men running and creating something from nothing. We have scored as teams leave gaps trying to nick a goal. They didn't as they were happy to not *have* to score as their first aim of the game.

As has also been said, yes there was a slip but we also beat city due to a blunder so it evens out. Yes it hurts but there are still 3 games for City to stumble and we can make that more possible by racking up wins against Palace and Newcastle.

If Everton want to ensure a good atmosphere on Saturday they should fill the ground with Reds!

It's both IMO. We do need more players, and they all need to be of the right quality, but we also need to know how to use them in a greater variety of ways. It's quite true that we're not really good at playing more patiently, but we'll definitely need to learn how, especially in Europe.

Coo, nice of the other big teams to freeze their squads and start going backwards.
Is it not the case that these "big teams" already have far superior squads and yet we're mixing it them them anyway?
Didn't Chelsea and city improve their squads in the summer, and yet we jumped from 7th to a title challenge with a marginally improved squad?

And they'll do it again, only more so, and accelerate away. It's what big teams do, when they have that much cash.

They didn't accelerate away this year though did they? There's only so much more of an improvement they can make. Us on the other hand can improve the squad greatly.

We have to get everything right this summer, and make sure our best players are all on form next season, and hope we don't have many injuries. All those things happen and we'll challenge. They're unlikely to though.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with our tactics yesterday, the limitations of our squad were shown, players were tired, and we have no options on the bench. I have not a single qualm with the club, team or management, we were beaten by an incredibly expensive squad, but we were beaten in a way that would have humiliated so many Chelsea fans, it was pathetic, but downright effective.

I've had to sit with two Chelsea fans most of the day, I was grateful that neither of them actually spoke to me till around lunchtime. We were supposed to watch the match at my house but family commitments got in the way, luckily, as I had had a fucking skinful and had a major humour bypass at the denouement.

One of my Chelsea colleagues sent a picture of him and his boys in the colours on the sofa, I had it in my mind that if any crowing was even whispered in my vicinity I would him inform him exactly what I thought of his fucking shameful bunch and how inflicting his affiliation on his son is very poor parenting indeed.

With all this rattling round my tiny football mind I was more than pleasantly surprised that when talk finally, awkwardly, got round to the match he openly admitted that he felt embarrassed having to explain to his 6 year old son that Chelsea players were timewasting from the get go, feigning injuries, defending en masse...

I credit him for that.

He also said that he would never have started as a Chelsea fan all those years ago If that was the kind of football to expect to watch.

Go figure. I didn't expect that. Magnanimity in victory. Not all Chelsea fans are cunts. It made it feel just a little better and helped return my sanity somewhat and prevented my spewing bitterness which I though was a nice touch. Credit to the blue cunt.

We are now in the unenviable position of having to hope that Everton do us an unlikely favour while simultaneously hoping a Pulis team rolls over against us... but that's where we are.

The manner of the defeat is so bitter It's horrific but I'm genuinely proud of who we are as a club today as much as any other time in our illustrious history. We've been a breath of fresh air this season, we probably wont win it, I wouldn't even be surprised if we fail to garner the 6 available points after such a heinous blow but that said regardless of whether we win the whole thing or not we shouldn't forget just how magic we've been again. This is our club, and we are fucking boss. 200M dollars of soulless defensive spite doesn't change a fucking thing.

I'm finding it difficult to contemplate 'blame' when we're top of the league, having scored 96 goals.

There are matches to play and there are issues to be settled in almost all of them. There will be upsets.

Many of the posts read like all Citeh have to do is complete their fixtures as if there is no possibility they can fail and indeed we will secure another six points without fail, same for Chelsea etc etc and it'll all be decided on goal difference.

Ask a Citeh fan if they think it's a foregone conclusion.

It's over when all the games have been played and the results are in. Not before.

We are going to have loads more teams parking the bus now. Had we mirrored the Anti-Christ, Stevie might not have slipped because he had cover. Statistically a % certainty someone will slip etc, the weaker the team the higher the %. JJ, Gmaca, mark75, etc are right. We would still probably have lost Our defense isn't good enough yet but we must learn and prepare from this.

Why did maureen come down a day early?
Was the hotel riot a false flag To boost his troops?
Why did the ref do nothing about time wasting for 90 minutes?

His greatest fear was Suarez anyone diving
Knowing what he was going to do, It was probably our best chance in his eyes. did his bullshit work?

Yes it did. He won.

I've paraphrased your excellent post with a musical tribute.
