Actually I resent being lumped in as a " hater ". My opinion is my opinion and we are not living in a totalitarian state where everyone has to agree so I don't see why I should conform to others ( imho blinkered ) views.
In fact I am willing him on and do wish he would be a success with us ( after all there don't seem to be too many alternatives ) although I just can't see it. I think everyone in this thread acknowledges an improved performance on monday but improved from what ? The apparent upsurge in effort pisses me off no end as that just contrasts with a years worth of diffidence.

As for all the talk of the lack of service the last thing I would want to see is the team adapting its play to suit him. At £35m you would expect a player who could adapt his game to suit the team and sadly I can't ever see that happening.

regards

Tony

Is it not fair to say also though that the green shoots of him of adapting his game to us our starting to show, albeit just a few games. No doubt there's still a way to go but displaying some signs of progress is at least encouraging.

He's a shit footballer and he doesn't fit into our style of play. The end.

You haven't said that the past few months ... You just said he's can be a good player, but he doesn't fit into our system. What's he done to make you change your tune?
[/quote]

I think I said he'd be a good player for someone else, and he would. Stoke or someone like that. On the flipside, can you imagine him playing for Arsenal or Swansea? Fuck me.

People are sayign that's the third game in a row that he's played well. Christ. I thought he was largely diabolican against Man United to be honest, expecially in the first half. Played ok against a fucking dreadful Wolves effort, and worked hard against Spurs. He never looked like scoring, and I actually thought Dawson - who was imperious - was never that troubled. Bar the abberation (and let's be honest that's what it was) of his 2 goals against Chelsea last year, he's not scored against anyone decent. In fact he's barely scored against anyone at all.

Cos he's not a goalscorer. He's not a striker of top calibre, he's barely even close. He is a plan B, an option, an unsettler, a different approach. in the same way that Peter Crouch was/is. The same way Djibril Cisse is. Or Duncan Ferguson. He doesn't in any single shape or form fit into the way we play, so therein lies the problem. We either change the way we play (bad idea), and ostracise our good players (even worse idea) to accomodate him - which will only likely work after a long term deployment of him in the side, or we use his as that plan B - which effectively means we need our plan A not to work. He becomes the guy you go to when you can't get the normal bit right. Wonderful.

And my issue with that is that it and he will become the easy option. Instead of buying players that suit, or sticking with a systemuntil you get it right, we'll fuck it off, take the easy path, bring on big Andy and lump it up to him. It's Houllier and Heskey.

What we could have done with that 35M, the player(s) we could have got, and the position we could now be in actually irritates me on a daily basis. that's sad I know, but it's all I can think about. He might not be an unmitigated disaster, but it for me will always be a massive lost opportunity. We went the wrong way, and by trying to accomodate him now at the expense of style and players is compunding the problem.

I'm the exact same , it's wrecking my head . Imagine where we could be if we had spent the 70m odd of him, Downing and henderson on 3 proper players . People are saying we are rebuilding , making progress etc and that may be the case but we could be a fair few steps ahead of where we are if we had spent that correctly . And with Chelsea and Arse being poor also it just frustrates even more .

I might be stating the obvious but a huge couple of months coming up for Andy.

If he can begin to cement a regular starting spot alongside Suarez/Bellamy in whatever formation Kenny plumps for - and crucially starts to get his name on the scoresheet more regularly - he's got an opportunity to reignite his England career under a new manager and become the media buzz-player on the run up to the Euro's.

A big performance at Old Trafford would be a good start.

70m could no doubt have bought more ready made talent but I think carroll and henderson may yet justify their fee. they are 21 and 23 and have their best years ahead of them.

Loved watching Andy last night, lovely touch, fitter, more energy and aggression

Good signs

If that headed chance had fallen to him at the end instead of Suarez who is shit in the air, we would have won.

Hope Andy plays Saturday

This is a sure sign we should get rid of Carroll. The backing of Fox is like the dreaded vote of confidence from the chairman.

Welcome back!!! 😉
