I think today was more than anything an example of what you can get when you clearly want to win more than your opponent. Just like how we won in 2005 when we were clearly inferior to most teams yet we wanted it more than anyone, today though the team couldn't give a shit, and lost to a mediocre, yet motivated side.

I think that's the long and the short of it. Besiktas wanted it more than us, they tried harder than us and they made us look poor through their hard work. I think that was more important than tactics or team formations.

I missed most of the first half stuck on the motorway. I think this is the one time where I might've been better off stuck in traffic.
What an awful awful game of football. I agree with Portly that Besiktas seemed to want it more than us. Watching Sterling and Sturridge shit out of tackles wasn't particularly encouraging. That said, feel that this was the wrong time to change things and Rodgers in-game management was very poor. He should've changed things long before they scored.
Another "learning" year for Rodgers in Europe it would seem. Diabolical in the CL and not so hot in the Europa League either.

I found Sterling to be particularly shite. In the absence of coutinho he was supposed to be the link between midfield and attack and he failed miserably. We missed coutinho badly.
What about Continio?
We missed him more. But not as much as countinho.

We really missed henderson. Allen is tidy but not massively effective and Can is trying too hard to show he should be in midfield. Not enough movement off the ball though. Also the pitch was shit
Not using it in any way as an excuse because it was the same for both sides, but I don't think I've seen anything as bad as that pitch before at that level.

I hate the Europa League. Really hate it. The UEFA Cup and Cup Winners' Cup - great competitions. The Europa League is just like a sort of penance for those clubs that didn't do well enough the previous year. It's just an over-populated, over-long, deadly dull waste of time.
I think it says it all, that the reward for winning the Europa League is now that you don't have to play in it next season.
