Go back and have a look at what happened to Chelsea the time we finished above them.

Doing something once isn't punching above your weight btw, that's simply going to happen every now and again.

I kinda agree with your second statement.

getting to the final in 05 (and winning it against a vastly superior team, wrong selection or not) - punching above our weight.

82 points in 06 - punching above our weight.

final again in 07 - punching above our weight.

semi-final in 08 - at the v least, punching our weight

86 points and 2nd place in 09 - punching above our weight.

apart from that he was shit.

All explained by the fact we outspent almost everyone in Europe at that time, and a bit of luck.

That would suggest he spent the money well then, wouldn't it?

You won't turn him. The lady's not for turning.

Some of it was spent very well, particularly before he sacked Pako and other staff.

Managers must make some difference since I read on here every year about how weak Man U are. Yet Taggart leads a team of players most wouldn't have in our team to the title year after year.

I detest threads like this. This may sound irrational but Kenny should never be subjected to this kind of fickle, internet forum shite.

I'm disappointed.

He started so well and got an ordinary side playing above itself. That and our increased transfer budget gave me a bit of hope for this season, but we spent a lot of money on the wrong players and we're going to pay the price at the end of the season. I'm now expecting to finish about 6th. If that's the case the owners have every right to feel aggrieved.

Maybe Comolli needs to be given a greater say in transfers. I don't know.

actually, yeah, you're right! he never deserved all this respect in the first place!

Don't talk crazy Peter! Kenny is the heart and soul of the club.

Hes won everything in the game, hes a born winner. He's a canny bastard, can handle the press like children, and yeah transfers are hit and miss but he's working under the constraints of a non champions league club in a champions league world. Kenny will sort it out.

that wasn't my point at all, my point was all managers make poor buys in the transfer market and kenny's signings should be given a full season before judgement anyway.

I do, and the answer's a big fat "no", not after his distinctly patchy performance at Tottenham where he brought in a mixture of some excellent players and some utter dross. Even if Kenny's buys turn out to have been poor (which BTW it's way too soon to judge) Comolli would represent no kind of improvement.

If we do finish 6th I think Kenny will either walk or be eased out. John Henry has publicly set a CL place as the target for this season. He may be a nice guy but I don't think anyone should confuse that with weakness.

Managers don't matter, money does ?!
Rafa was a shite manager who got lucky once in 05 ?!

It's a bit like saying why bother with hours in the gym to reduce that waistline, when we can just go for a lipo surgery quickfix whilst continuing to chomp on them pies...

Bad example, I know but point still matters. That this is a silly discussion to begin with, hence a silly reply.

basically Rosco's taken a sound point about money being a key factor and taken it to a ludicrous extreme. i hope for his sake he's on a wind up.

Yeah it's Champions League or bust for Kenny and he'll not need some nobody like me on a football forum to tell him that.

The Owners didn't give Kenny a massive sum of money to spend for a bit of fun.
