Well no, I was assuming the point was HE wasnt signing the players until now hence they have said HE is now in charge of them?
Am I misunderstanding the point here?

Yeah. He's always had a big say (Lovren, Lallana, Allen, Borini) and now he's getting the exclusive say.

I remember him saying at a presser he would not be signing Balotelli as he wasnt interested then two weeks later he signed.
Im unconvinced he is in charge of transfers at all.

He's never been in charge, but there's a rumour he will be from now on. That looks plausible given our targets.

I just cant believe that anyone would be given sole charge of what we have and think Benteke and Ings will get them top 4 mate.
Either im really missing something or he really is a fucking chancer.

If you get told you have the reigns and you have one year to sort it.......Benteke!!?!?

This is the manager who bombed the white Benteke out within weeks of showing up as not fitting in with his style. The man who froze the Italian Benteke out all season because he didnt fit in.

That said all this is from Twitter. A shithole of Mos Eisley proportions.

I'm not sure what you're finding so hard to believe...

Aren't all signings made with the sincere belief they're the best options? Is that why people got so mad with Rafa - they thought he just said 'fuck it - Aquilani will do. Nice squint.'

If BR wants Benteke it's cos he thinks he's the best possible option. Just like he thought Lovren was a fantastic centre half and Joe Allen was the Welsh Xavi.

He's doing his best but his best is shit.

Well no, I dont agree with that because Lovren looked a belting signing to me. Allen looked a really good player too. I see rationale in those signings.
Benteke is fucking poo.

Yeah he's always had a big say. First summer pretty much total say really, then maybe 40/60 from then on.
It has been mentioned in the other thread that its rumoured we are bringing in DOF..

So you would assume with that in place, he would have no control on transfers what-so-ever..

FSG should really come out and tell the fans what the plans are moving forward..

Everyone is just guessing it seems..

This all seems pointless. Get rid of staff, bring new staff in, Rodgers fails next season, sack Rodgers, bring in new manager who wants his own staff, sack the old new staff, bring in new staff....

Article from November..

Looking back.. he did have a point.. All this money we had, and we did not strengthen the back room..

I think it's been said by many on here.. We lack personal who have the 'Top Club' experience..

[Article]Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is paying the price for not strengthening his backroom staff, according to former Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen.

Liverpool are nine points off league leaders Chelsea and have lost their last two Champions League group games.

Meulensteen, first-team coach at Manchester United for five years, says Rodgers has made mistakes.

"Brendan Rodgers's biggest failure is that he's not invested in his staff," Meulensteen told BBC Radio 5 live.

Meulensteen, 50, was a key member of Sir Alex Ferguson's backroom team at Old Trafford.

He helped United win three Premier League titles, one Champions League, two League Cups and one Club World Cup while first-team coach between 2008-13.

The Dutchman, who was in charge of Fulham for just two months before he was replaced in February, believes Rodgers should have strengthened his backroom team after the Reds secured a Champions League return after finishing second in the Premier League last season.

Colin Pascoe is Rodgers's assistant while Mike Marsh is first-team coach.

Meulensteen said Rodgers should have appointed someone with Champions League experience before the start of the season.

"He has got there because of his philosophy and I rate him for that," he added.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers
Rodgers bemoans 'sloppy' Liverpool
"He has obviously got people around him who he obviously thinks are the right ones.

"But I think he could have done with someone who has been there, seen it and done it.

"Playing in the Premier League and the Champions League, it's a different rhythm that requires a different style of training and a different management strategy through the week. You need to know these things."

Former striker Robbie Fowler, who scored 171 goals in 330 games for Liverpool, told BBC Radio 5 live: "In Brendan's eyes he has the right people at the club.

"Brendan is comfortable with his staff. He has Mike Marsh, who was brought up at Liverpool and knows everything about the club.

"And he has Colin Pascoe, who he has worked with for years. He's comfortable with them."[/Article]

Is it possible that some senior players have had a low key 'review', say Gerrard, Henderson, Lucas etc and they have said that Rodgers is great on the training side of things but Marsh and Pascoe aren't up to it?

Meulensteen is apparantly close to becoming a manager in India.
He's off the list if true.

Where is the evidence that Rodgers is great on training? If he is the manager and cant spot if thd two people he works with is off the mark he needs to step down?

I think the transfers are all over the place to be honest, it's clear some were Rodgers signings (Borini, Allen), while with others it's less clear, particularly with Mario and Lambert, there were stories about players being assessed behind the scenes via stats, heavily, which was having a big bearing on not only targeting players, but the priority with which targets were placed. Can you imagine?

I don't think Rodgers is without culpability, but it sounds as though there has been compromise from both parties on two fronts:

*Rodgers said the committee wasn't working (in fairness, he turned us down initially because of similar proposals)
*The club said the organisation behind the scenes wasn't working.

So we have a situation where Rodgers has more control over signings, Rodgers loses his two main men, while the club (will Rodgers be involved?) look to recruit staff who are strong in areas where we are weak.

Say what you want about the board, but they're making a bold move again, some might think it's messy and more improvisation in the hope that something will stick. Maybe it will work.

What is interesting is the possibility that it goes tits up anyway, what then for the new staff? Does this mean that any new staff will be alot more authoritative and renowned than we expect - ie, staff who will stand alone should Rodgers get the boot? It's a difficult place to be, attracting staff to a club with a manager walking a tightrope. You don't attract quality to that without some promises that they have a future, regardless of what might happen to the remains of the old regime.

This smacks of Rodgers chucking the women and children overboard as he clings to the lifeboat. I'm not against the idea but it's pretty clear that's what's gone on.
