Arsenal Post match thread

I was shitting myself after 5 minutes. However, we were the better team in the first half and deserved to win the match overall.

This summer has been the best transfer window we've had in many a year. Not exactly the most exciting but by far the most productive.

I think Ibe must have been puffing at Raheem's dodgy pipe. Very disappointing performance from a player we had so much hope for.

Yes. I'm a huge fan but I must admit he looked like he'd had his memory wiped tonight. Very naive and strangely listless at times. Maybe he went on and was told to be defensive, but that would have been a bit odd, seeing as the Arsenal defence was ripe for a really fast and confident attacking player.

We improved 4 positions - Gomez, Clyne, Milner, Benteke ... and after 1-2 months, it will be 5 with Firmino ...

Excellent window.

Yeah, he was utter wank. He's on the Babel spectrum when it comes to football intelligence. He offered nothing going forward and even less defensively. Complete passenger from the moment he came on.

Good point. Pretty pleased with that all things considered.

I thought both fullbacks and Milner were fantastic. Special mention to Joe Gomez though who as others have said is looking more and more like one of the steals of the summer. He's like an English Varane!

Firmino was pretty meh. There were some nice moments but on the whole didn't really offer Clyne enough protection and didn't set the world alight in attack. Early days though so hopefully when fitness and all that jazz comes along we'll see more of him.

Can was probably the most interesting one to watch out of the lot. I think it shows that he's definitely much more at home in the box-to-box role rather than trying to sit back and hold. Plus points - great energy and stamina, which I recall have previously been subject to question. Negative points - rushes things too much at times. Top class players always look like they have time and space.

Subs didn't really work out. Ibe was really poor and the Rossiter sub was errr ambitious.

Finally, Coutinho served up the best moment of the season so far. Love him!

I was fearing the worst with Firmino during the first 15 minutes tonight. Looked like he'd never played 11 a side before. Am optimistic he'll come good although I can't see how he fits in when Sturridge is back

I was wrong about Benteke. He's looked very good so far.
Gomez isn't really eighteen, is he?
Ibe was shite.

Gomez - 3 games, 3 clean sheets, 3 yellows.

Something has to give.

It's not just his defending though, he's incredibly intelligent with it too and reads the game excellently. I don't want to get carried away though because there's bound to be a spell of poor form, but at the minute he looks brilliant.

I thought Ibe had spells like this before he hit the first team too, he's very direct and sometimes it doesn't happen for him at all. He seems to then get caught in a cycle of trying the same thing even harder. I thought he'd moved past that but it doesn't seem so, feels like he needs to just stop and play simple to get a foothold in the game when he struggles.

Wenger is such a cunt.

He really needs to feck off. If you watch him during a game, he's experiencing pure misery. It's not tension or anxiety like other managers feel. Football as such seems to be pure torture for him these days. He doesn't seem to like sport. Or understand it

I'm stuck in work so only caught flashes of the match so I can't comment about much of the performance, but:

-Can needs to get tighter to players. He seems to watch them drift by him casually and then go 'oh shit!' and react. It's a miner gripe really, but it could of proved costly.
-Moreno's a real threat late on in games. I like how Rodgers is using him at the moment. Proof that if you show a good attitude in training there's room for you at the club. That's a good thing to make visible.
-Skrtel was very impressive in what I saw.
-Our midfielders worked their bollocks off. So did everyone really and they worked for each other. There's fight and belief in this squad which was absent last year.
-We suffered because Lucas, Can and Firmino haven't had many minutes and I can't help but feel that gave Arsenal the edge in the second half.

Great result. 0-0 there considering the attacking talent they have is superb. The new defensive coach must be working wonders 😉
