We are all so keen to see him start for us that I thought it deserving of it's own thread.

Liverpool are targeting their trip to Sunderland on October 17 as the game in which £20m midfielder Alberto Aquilani will make his long-awaited debut.

The Italian, who joined the club from Roma in August, is expected to have recovered from an ankle injury sustained in March.

Liverpool have been determined not to rush his recuperation but the club's doctors are confident they have cured an underlying complaint which restricted Aquilani to just 21 appearances in all competitions last season.

Aquilani is likely to step up his training when his team-mates depart for international duty after Liverpool's visit to Chelsea and should be in contention for a place on the substitutes' bench when Rafael Benitez takes his team to the Stadium of Light two weeks later.

Sources insist the player is confident he will make a full recovery, thanks to the efforts of Liverpool's medical staff, and he is described as being "very happy" at his new club. (© Daily Telegraph, London)

AND

With Liverpool’s crunch clash against Manchester United towards the second half of October, the reds will be looking for the perfect morale booster and the long awaited debut of Alberto Aquilani looks on the cards in the next month.

Aquilani picked up his ankle injury in March whilst with Roma, and the reds expect him to take a step up in training in just over a weeks time.

The reds have pencilled in the Sunderland clash, a week before the United game to hopefully see him play some part and make his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

Liverpool’s doctors are said to be very confident they have cured a recurrent problem with the player’s ankle.

If our medics really have cured the problem, which Aquilani's had for a loooooooong time, that doesn't say much for their Italian colleagues. Hopefully he'll be chuffed to bits about it and raring to go.

Let's give him a chance as well. I fear people will expect instant brilliance.

I do.

Dominate the midfield, 2 assists, brilliant through balls and a spectacular volley into the top corner is the LEAST I expect from his 20 minute cameo debut.

Keep him out of the manc game. I don't want to see the poor bloke finally start playing only to be hacked down by Darren Fletcher!

He'd bastard better be! Considering the money and that we have let Xabi go for him 😀

If he ever wanted to win the fans over, he could score the winner in the scum game 😉

Just add water.

There's a tradition of players making impressive debuts versus the Mancs - Phil Thompson, Rob Jones, Igor Biscan, Albert Riera. Hopefully Aquilani will go on to enjoy a Liverpool career more like Thommo's than the others.

I expect brilliance but I also expect him to pick up a "minor" knock towards the end of his first game and he will be out for another 3 matches. He will then make a series of comebacks ala Harry kewell and be sold off for £3m in 4 seasons time to some newly promoted Italian team.

Igor Biscan actually made his debut as a second-half substitute against Ipswich a week before the man utd game, you total cretin.

Total cretin? Mmmm, real cutting edge put-down. Much like the real Peter himself. If your aim is to offend, just call him a cunt.

i was only kidding around sugarlips. the level of detail in the first part of the sentence was supposed to contrast with the severity of the insult for being ignorant of it - but never mind.

oh, and Squiggs mate, it's 'unlikeable', you complete drivelling imbecile.

I knew it was said tongue in cheek, and I appreciated the information.

And as always I love your avatar and completely disagree with Squiggles as per (currently)
