Aquilani, and Maxi..

There's more palms on faces today than you get at the bottom of a log flume.
Brilliant stuff.

Of course Maxi cannot be deemed a disaster, nor can AA either if you are being fair.

However if you were courting attention, you would possibly state that they have both been a "fucking disaster".

Oh dear.

Look, just give up.

Bigger, better and cleverer men than you have taken a kicking from me on this site. Look on it as part educational and part cautionary.

Good boy.

Aquilani has to be considered a disaster so far.

Who's to blame is another matter, but through bad luck and possibly bad analysis of his injury he, or at least the player we're hoping he is, has been badly missed.

[/quote]Yep. From 6 weeks to 7 months and he still isn't a part of the first team.
If that isn't a fucking disaster I dunno what is.
Aquilani is a brilliant player and I still hope we see it for us, but anyone who thinks his signing at this point hasn't been a disaster is a mental.
Cattermole would have been better for us over the short term.

It always strikes me that people having a go at Brendan for this sort of thing are in a way courting attention themselves.

Anyways, if we are being fair, Aquilani has been a disaster and is a certainty to be named amongst the worst signings of the summer (I'd put him at #1).

Why?

We sold our player of the season - pivotal to making our system work - and replaced him with someone who has thus far contributed virtually nothing to our season. The whole point of buying in a replacement is actually having a replacement - this season, we may as well have not bought anyone.

Thanks for proving my point.

Bigger, better and cleverer have taken a kicking, LOL. Its the internet, get over yourself.

indeed, let's drop it boys - keep it country...

Brendan isn't looking for attention, just guffing off like he's done for all these years, no harm at all!

Me? I think it's too early to say, but in this era of instant everything, judgment is immediate too. I'll wait a while before committing - plus Benitez isn't the easiest manager for players to work under..!

To be really fair (and I have a feeling that I am stepping into a minefield here so I am just commenting on this part of the post), Alonso wanted to go.

So although Aquilani was meant to replace him, it’s not as if Alonso was sold to make way for him.

He’s being a disaster has more to do with his prize tag, his long absence, and him not being the player we need right now. (Then again, who would we have bought in his place?) He can’t keep the ball or find his teammates, whether because of being out for so long or everyone else being on a different wavelength.

Rafa tried to sell him 12 months previous though, and there's always other options when you've got 18-20M to spend.

Quick hypothetical:

If Rafa gets an offer of 20M from an Italian Club this summer for Aquilani, would he sell?

No. He'd want 21m

I wouldn't rule out the possibility, Ryan. Some players (Lucas, Crouch) Rafa took a shine to and seemed to want vindication regarding their signing. Others (Keane, Aquilani so far) he seems to have realised a "mistake" early on and frozen them out.

I'd like to see Aquilani given a chance to prove himself. I think he has the capability to be a valuable member of the team but, as things stand, his signing is a horror-story mistake. And if Rafa isn't prepared to get behind him it's Babel Mk II and a crying shame.

Yeah, he would sell.

I don't think he would.

He's always maintained that Aquilani is here for the long term and that we'd see the best of him in his second to third years. I'd find it strange, although not surprising, if the Italian were to be sold.
