I've been struggling to see matches lately...

I know Aquilani has been getting slagged off here a few weeks ago, but how's he looking now? Any rays of light?

And has Rodriquez added anything of note thus far?

Aquilani was awful against Bolton.

Maxi was reasonable against Bolton then anonymous against Everton (albeit slightly better in the second half).

Both need to do more in my opinion.

Maxi wasn't anonymous against Everton. He did a decent professional job. He's a good player with good movement. I like him.

Aquilani looks like he might be good when we're playing well. When we're performing badly he doesn't seem to be able to turn it around for us at the moment though.

Maxi will be a useful squad player probably.

It's early days though, in terms of the number of appearances, and like we've seen with Keane and a few others, Rafa seems severely lacking in the ability/confidence to incorporate Aquilani into the side.

Add the fact that Rafa's been trying to keep us solid to get us back to winning ways, it's been tough on Aquilani as he's had to be patient on the sidelines, without the luxiry of being eased into a winning team, which just sees the expectation and demand for him to do something escalate. All of which is largely unfair on the lad. He has shown glimpses of quality though, but his lack of physical presence is a big worry.

Regards Maxi, I don't really know what to think yet but again he's only had a couple of appearances, one of which he's played out of position in one of the toughest games of the season, much of which was played with 10 men.

So far, both have been a fucking disaster

End of (sad, short) story
The majority of the 'disaster' surrounding Aquilani is regarding how long he's been injured, and now how reluctant Rafa is to use him, you can't say he's a disaster based on a couple of appearances and fuck all faith from the manager, and Maxi signed about 2 weeks ago. Christ.

No they haven't.

God almighty.

Well, assuming this lad hasn't seen any of his games so far, I would have to inform him that Maxi has been shit so far

Which is true

When he stops being shit, I will endeavour to inform him of any change

Maxi has only been here 2 minutes. How can he be classed a disaster?
Because his coarse-grained model for rating players means he can pat himself on the back for being right more often?

Maxi has looked too slow to really fix many problems, but he has looked fairly cool, capable of settling play and picking a pass. That's useful to us, but it doesn't change things massively. If he gains more comfort, and adds goalscoring with the frequency he has elsewhere, he'll prove most useful.

Aquilani has been poor, but the backdrop for his return to fitness and first few games are about as awful as could be.

Fucking Hell, usual shite from Brendan.

Aqua has shown some great touches, a willingness to pass the ball and get things moving going forwards. He hasn't got used to the fast pace of the Premiership and the physical nature of it yet, but he has come from Italy where the game is a lot slower and he has been out since forever so give the lad a chance.

Maxi has again shown some nice touches and set up N'Gog with a lovely through ball v Spurs that resulted in the pen.

Both has started steadily in their LFC careers, they haven't exactly set the world on fire but have shown some class and if they settle will both contribute to the team.

'Coarse-grained model'

Oh fucking dear me, that's equal parts painful and try-hard hopeless

He asked for opinion on what 'we' have seen so far. I told him. He didn't ask for tortured, clumsy fucking bollocks

Aquilani's passing has been shocking at times though when he's been under no pressure at all.
Definitely. He was nervous and trying to do far too much against Bolton, trying to spread sweeping passes all around and failing.

His eyes require collimating.

One light means shit, two lights means good.

The worrying thing about Aquilani is that he wasnt trusted to play in the derby. Surely if you spend £20m on him these are the games that he was bought to play in and make a difference.

Given Maxi's lack of gametime prior to us, and the difficult fixtures he's been thrown into since joining us four weeks ago, I think he's done well.

He works hard, retains possession all the time, can play in a variety of positions, and has settled in nicely.

Of course, we could have expected him to join us and set the world alight within 4 weeks. But then not all of us are utterly fucking clueless.

He was never going to start the derby
Is the right answer.

I am getting worried about Aquilani, but he was never gonna get slung in against the Bitters. Maybe he may play against a less combative Arsenal?

I think we all knew that was going to be the case.

And dont get me wrong it was a very good performance on Saturday and a great result. But I do find it strange that you spend that kind of money and dont play him in a derby.
