We paid 30 mill for him if that helps in anyway though.
It was 35 according to every report I've seen.

30m cash upfront, you mean? Yeah, obviously that turns the deal into an absolute bargain.

Heh, it wasn't ment that way Bunster. But we did pay 30 mill upfront and will pay 5 mill depending on performance.

Doesn't change anything, despite getting the fee correct. Bents transfer can increase to 28 with installements.

At the end of the day I would still rather have Carroll for £35 than Bent for £25.
He has the potential to be a fantastic and long term striker. Bent has peaked and is in all reality no more than a better than average striker. He has been on the periphery of the England team for years and never broken through.

regards

Let's be honest - Bent is right. I remember a thread a few days before the end of January saying the transfer window had gone mad because Spurs had bid 23m for Carroll. I disagreed with that - I thought 25m would have been a fair price for him - but NOBODY expected him to go for 35m. Financially, it's a huge gamble and we all know it.
Agreed.

This.

I like Carroll tho.

LIVERPOOL new boy Andy Carroll has been told he needs to lose a few pounds before making his long-awaited debut.

The £35million January signing from Newcastle has yet to turn out for the Reds because of a thigh problem.

In fact, Carroll has not played since the Toon’s 2-0 defeat by Tottenham on December 28.

And People Sport can reveal the 22-year-old striker has been ordered by training staff at Melwood to trim down before his debut in the next couple of weeks.

A Liverpool source said: “Andy has not played this year because of his injury and, like all big lads when they are not in full-time training, he has become a little bit too bulky.

“He’s been told to lose five or six pounds
before Liverpool fans can see him in action.

“But we did our homework on Carroll and know that he is an excellent trainer and this shouldn’t be a problem.â€

Carroll’s problem is his kicking muscle in his thigh which has bled internally and this held up his Kop debut.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish said this week he has been delighted with the player’s progress.

About what? His injury history? It's acutally very very good. Nothing to worry about.
Get him 100% before he plays.
That People story is without quotes and everything, so it's probably BS anyway.

Yup. Bent's comments are completely innocuous. Many of us said the same thing when it happened. The dirty rag highlighted the word 'crazy', and suddenly it's an outrage.

Cut the ponytail off. That'll knock about a stone off his weight. And stop him looking like he works on The Waltzers at Southport Fair.

I thought so at the time too but now I'm not so sure. Financially, I actually feel our deal makes more sense than Villa's for Bent and Chelsea's for Torres because of resale value.

If it doesn't work out here for Carroll, he would have a resale value of about 15m to maybe, at a stretch, 20m... so, we're taking a punt for around 15m. In comparison Bent and Torres's resale value is pretty much nothing and they will be one of the highest earners at their respective clubs.

We've overpaid, or gambled if you prefer, for potential whereas Chelsea and Villa have overpaid for what they hope are sure things.

Spot on. As Henry said, we wanted Carroll + 15mill for Torres..If Carroll was priced at 20mill we wouldve let Fernando go for 35.. Simples..

Carroll is awesome.

Bent's another twitter twat.

He's the worst of them.

"Twitter was making me lose focus on football the relegation battle we were in".

Prick.

What? That would make him about eighteen fucking stone now.
I think we are talking either pounds or kilos, 6 Kilos would be under a stone.

Which as he has been laid up for a while would not be that surprising

regards

6 pounds? just shy of a half a stone. considering he was off over crimbo and NYE i suppose that's probably a pretty fair target re weightloss/fitness
