So when he's fit is he likely to play up top with Suarez as a genuine 2 up front do we think? I thought it would be a 4-2-3-1 with Suarez behind him somewhere, but I'm now leaning to a 4-4-2... although we don't have the wingers for that.
Nolan told the Chronicle: “We’re all disappointed Andy’s gone. He’s a massive character.
“But he wouldn’t have been there last night, and wouldn’t have been there next week.
“People move on. This club’s a massive club, and no player is bigger than it.
“We don’t know how long Andy’s going to be out for – eight weeks or so – and we’ve just got to put that to bed. He’s gone.
“We’re all delighted for him on his move, but we’ve just got to get on with it.
“The main thing is we’ve got to do the best we can for Newcastle United.
“The best for us is making sure we stay in this league, and I firmly believe we’ve got the quality in the squad to do that.â€
Nolan insists Carroll’s departure should not be the end of the world.
He said: “We’re all disappointed Andy left, but it’s just one of those things.
“There was no one more disappointed than me. Not only have we lost a top player, but someone I was very close to.â€
And having bounced back from the departure of Chris Hughton, Nolan feels the Mags must do it all again after Carroll’s exit.
He said: “It’s going to be a bit weird over the coming weeks, but that’s not an excuse. We’ve fought big batles over the last couple of years, and this is another one.
“We’ve got to make sure we come out on top of it.â€
