Am I a cunt?

I have become somewhat apathetic of late regards us, simply cos I feel genuine pain at ou plight this season. It's a kind of protection mechanism I believe.

However, that is a world away from wanting us to lose, it's simply no possible

I went to that match against Blackburn with my mates, all of us planning on cheering on Blackburn. We stood in the Kop & realised, as one, that it wasn't possible to do it. We jut couldn't. I suspect come the Chelsea game neither will Terrier, no true fan could watch us play & will us to lose, for whatever reason.

Fair enough post.

I will maybe feel differently when the game gets underway and instinct takes over.

It's just waking up this morning and seeing in the papers and on tv Gary Neville snogging Scholes, Fergie jumping up and down the touchline after they scored, Scum fans blabbing on that they're certs to win it now and the thought of them doing just that is horrendous - getting the 19th title and winning the league 4 times in a row. >🙁 >🙁

It was exactly the same for us.

I really am not that bothered if United get the 19 League titles. OK, it's right to be proud of our traditions but many of those league titles were in the days when the players went to the match on the bus, had a bacon sandwich at half-time and got £5 per week. It was a different world. You are really only as good as your last season! 🙂

I think its somewhere in the middle for most.

We will want Liverpool to win but if we lose nobody will be that upset.

I'm sure there'll be plenty calling Rafa a cunt and what not on here.

I hope we batter Chelsea.
And I hope because of it Manchester United win the league.
And because of that I hope our integrity as a club is cemented forever.
And because of that Fergie retires having knocked us off our perch.
And because of that we stop living in the past as a club and from top to bottom lurch out of our 20 year entropy and with new manager, new owners, new players in a new stadium we pull ourselves up by thebootheels and within 24 calender months we are once again the most successful club in England with 20 league titles.
That's what I want.

What he said.

I remember watching a documentary on Real and Barca or, more specifically, their fans. In a survey of 500,000 fans the producers found that a little over 50% of Real Madrid and Barcelona fans were happier to hear of their main enemies being beaten than of their own team winning. That wasn't support for your club it was just an attempt at finding a justifiable reason for despising your opponent.

I've supported LFC for long enough to know what it feels like to win and to lose. I can remember thinking that the loss in the FA Cup that denied us the treble was a horrible, horrible day in the life of the club. I thought the Thomas goal was horrendous in every way and that football wise it could get no worse. Then came the Souness years which were trying times in deed and made everything that had come before seem almost like success. Through it all, however, there was always only one constant; LFC.

Arsenal had their time, Everton had their moments, the mancs, Leeds, Blackburn and even Chelsea have enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame. But I've supported LFC all the way through it and the idea that the events of another club would be more important to me than Liverpool is not something I could consider. I've given grief to manc fans for years and years and years - I have no doubt that I will be copping it in spades at the end of the season. If can't deal with that then I've got no right to hand it out to others.

I can't imagine putting my own comfort in not being derided by rival fans above the team.

Soz.

When we lose our record we'll be better for it. There will be less pressure on us.

It's a fundamental feature of supporting a football club that when you go to the match, you want your club to win.

Going to a match to support your club's opponents is just contrary to the emotional bond between you and your club. It's unrealistic.
Excellent point here.

I can't imagine anyone physically attending the match would not want Liverpool to win (and I believe you're a season ticket holder) but for those of us simply watching on TV, it's far easier to take a different stance.
Not really, Terrier.

As Oncy has pointed out, watching the Scum lift 19 will be horrible; but much less painful knowing that LFC intentionally threw a game for the sole reason of depriving another team of the title, even if it is the Mancs.

I think some comments in this thread have been a bit harsh tho; if we deliberately fielded a weakened team in order to rest players for a more important game, that would have pretty much the same effect as what Marky is suggesting, and I wouldnt be bothered by it so much.

But not if the only reason is to prevent us losing our record.

I get what you mean, but I'm not sure we're under pressure specifically because of the record, but more so because we're a big club and should expect to be winning trophies.

As for a more general point, of course I have to be supporting on Liverpool at all times, but I wouldn't mind if we played our reserves for the Chelsea match. Even if it is 'small time' and desperarate.

I'm just not arsed by anything to do with Liverpool at the moment.

I agree with the 2nd bit. Should they win it this year it is likely to be the last for a good few years, judging by 3 things.

Their skwad is almost as threadbare as ours
Their finances are even worse than ours
Rednose will retire soon.

So hopefully it will only take two titles to give us back our lead!

I am not sure if anyone is suggesting that Liverpool as a team throw the game are they, more that they will be hoping that Chelsea beat us, which lets be honest they are pretty likely to anyway.
I don't think I am coming up with anything new here but dragging what I think are the important bits out that other people have said.
Firstly, when your loathing for another team becomes greater for the love of the team you support, you need to have a good long hard look at yourself.
As Portly and Foxy said, you may find out during the game that despite what you may think, it is impossible to want us to lose.
Oncey makes a point well, this record has been a fucking albatross around our neck for years, I think there may be a sense of relief as and when we are relieved of it. Perhaps losing it and chasing it will spur us on more than defending it.
The other problem that I have is I find it difficult to say who I despise more United or Chelsea to be honest, but that's a personal thing.

I think Vlad highlighted the essential points.

The thing is, if you really are hoping we lose during the game, you can't call them bitters ever again.

I don't care about the title record anymore. I've been resigned to losing it sooner or later for some time now.

I liken it to last season when we were top and we become cautious shithouses but on the way to the top and when we were chasing the top we were playing some fantastic football.
okay, ultimately we lost (ha ha).

Fair enough chaps if youse will be keen on a Liverpool win, they're the team we all support afterall.

However if we do win, surely in the back of your mind you'll be thinking 'oh fuck we've done our most hated rivals a big favour'?

Taking all the circumstances into considerable i genuinely believe if people are secretly hope Chelsea beat us, then they're entitled to do that.

You know what? Fuck Man Utd. All that matters is Liverpool. If they win a 19th, it's because they've earnt it. We should be hoping to lose any game. Ever.

It is on talksport though, the murdcoch owned, cunt presented, cockney twatface sad excuse of a sports radio channel.

Scouse Red phoned up to say he wants Chelsea to win 4-0, our season in knackered already
and it's not inevitable that United will get no19 again in the near future if they don't get it this year
- no youngsters coming through etc.

Some good points.

I would guess Scouse Red had a cockney accent.

And if he sounded Scouse, he was probably a blue nose. It happens all the time on phones-in.

:🙂
