Allen

Thought it was strange that Klopp praised him after the Bordeaux match, saying he gave him just 60 minutes with the Swansea match in mind.

That's a bit harsh but maybe Klopp figured that we have too many CM's?
Might open up space for Tex, Rossiter and Brannagan.
Or he might just be looking for a new DM to compete with Lucas?

I thought he had a good game against Bordeaux. However, it looks like Lucas, Can, Henderson andilner are all ahead of him, and we may well be buying a new CM in January. So yes, Allen may be sold soon.

Can't see him being here on Feb 1st unless we have an injury crisis or see a huge drop n form of the core playing group due to playing too many games in a short period of time.

I reckon he'll be here till the end of the season.

It first looked like Klopp was using the cups (league and Euro) as a pre-seasoner, getting the team to play to his way but now it actually looks like he wants to win a trophy or two and qualify for the CL.

Considering our injury form, we'll want everyone we've got and if Allen plays like he did against Bordeaux then he'll be part of the plan.

I think Klopp has realized something :- "Actually this lot are not as shit as people have been saying - they just need a kick up the backside and some direction". However, that said - I am surprised how quickly Allen has been dropped and seems not be in his plans at all. I agree - it all seems like that his core midfield players are:-

Henderson, Can, Milner, and Lucas - and that is just that. I don't think that nay of those four are so good that there is daylight between them and Allen but clearly Klopp does not see any good in keeping him. I think he will definitely go in January.

Agreed. Allen will be sold but after the season.
Doubt Klopp wants let anyone go while we are competing on 4 fronts.

I would agree with that problem is, every time we've needed a DM on the pitch he's been overlooked.
Sure, even I have realised that Allen isn't a DM but come on Lucas suspended and he doesn't even get subbed on?
To make matters worse he brought Kolo on apparently. Dunno if it was to sure up the midfield or not?

We've brought a defender on in the final minutes in pretty much every match we've been winning though.

Yeah that I know and have brought up. I like that he does that. I'm just saying...spells the end for Allen.

Allen would never reach the heights needed for a top team. He'd be ok as a sub thought.

His biggest problem is that he's so clueless in the final third, he's like Carragher in terms of goals

We bought Allen when he was 21 or something and he hasn't developed at all. Looked promising at the start but he's just stagnated.

I love how you accidentally switched to italics and then just completed the entire sentence without noticing.

It happened at "in". Let's think it through. He forgot the "i", moved the cursor back not realising he was highlighting the text as he went, then forgot he was part way through the sentence so went to shift-i to capitalise it, yet still fucked it up by pressing crtl-i. Then oblivious to it all he hit post.

Simply amazing.

Not even close. I hit control I by accident which turns everything into italics and couldn't be bothered hitting it again to reverse it as I was typing.

How Allen has lasted this long is a miracle. Outside of the first few months he has offered very little. Not a good DM and pretty poor going forward. He should have been gone years ago.

I disagree he has never ever looked promising despite what certain know it alls think.

There is nothing to his game, never has been and never will be. Sorry, he can pass a ball sideways or backwards for upto 10 yards.

Nah, It was always going to be Ctrl and something. It could happen to anyone I suppose. 😉

I'm in a veritable phonebox-sized minority, I know, but I still think he could have a role to play under Klopp. He has the ability to play the pressing game, he passes well, he keeps things simple and keeps the tempo high and he's actually an intelligent player. For Wales, on an international stage, he's still shown all of that. It's true he's never really put down roots here. His first season was an injury-ridden let-down. Since then he's never been given a role and a run of games. Even under his supposed mentor, Brendan, it was always a case of, 'Go on there and try to do what Lucas did, or Gerrard, or Henderson...' He's never been given his head and shown a bit of faith, and jeez it shows in his demeanour. He plays like he doesn't think anyone really believes in him. I suspect he's stopped completely believing in himself. Unfortunately, there's only one way he can escape from that rut and that's through fighting harder than ever, building up some anger and really seizing the moment. Has he got that in him? I've no idea. But i think, somewhere, probably elsewhere, he'll prove he's a proper talent.

I think that's a bit harsh, and I'm far from his biggest fan, but his ability in the middle of the park to turn on a sixpence to get us on the move or to keep the momentum going, is pretty crucial. The problem for him now is that we have both Lallana and Coutinho who can pick the ball up deep and do the same.

He's technically very gifted, but he doesn't have a particular asset that's stands out, in terms of defensive ability, creativity or goals. But the raw talent was there. You win some you lose some, some players progress and finetune their talents to become better players, some lads just stagnate. I don't think it's particularly anyone's fault. Under the same regimes we've seen Henderson come on leaps and bounds.
