FSG seem to prefer strategic moves - and can't see that changing with Edwards / Hughes - so I can't seem them making decisions with this season in mind, particularly as they've hung Klopp out to dry a couple times in Jan in the past.

If we were thinking more short-term then an injury at DM and perhaps CB *touch wood* fucks us more than in any other position. So another midfielder would probably be top of the list.

The next one is pretty obvious. We need a striker. Jota can't be relied upon and Nunez isn't good enough. It feels like a very good (nevermind a great) striker would be transformative. Could we get one in Jan? Probably not?

In the summer, the full back positions should be scrutinised. Obviously if TAA goes, we need a RB but even if he doesn't, we need to make a decision about Bradley. Right now he's not looking good enough but he's young so I guess wait and see. In an ideal world we would get a great LB to replace one of Tsimikas / Robertson and relegate the other to squaddie but that can probably wait a season if needs must.

I think LB can wait until next summer. Cover for Gravy, sell the Donkey in January, PSG need an ahem, striker. As much as I like having a shitbag like Jota in the team unfortunately he's made of twiglets.

for me LB/DM tied for first place priority then a striker.

LB is starting to cost us a little imo and not just because of the pen at the weekend. DM might cost us if gravy takes a knock and/or macallister gets run into the ground for a second season running. either/both of jota and darwin can go in the summer for fresh blood if the money is right.

Not for this thread - but I love Jota, and I love the idea of Nunez, but I think we need to replace one or both for different reasons.

A horrible saying that I heard about redundancies, but I think applies to football squads under a new manager looking to make changes - "cut once and cut deep"

If we need to make big changes - make them together and then just embrace the transition rather than drag it out too long and making it disruptive many times over.

I think that if you have to choose which one of them get rid of it's important to remember that Nunez is pretty much always a donkey while Jota is frequently but not always injured

Midfielder for sure.

Forward, if the right one is available.

LB can wait till summer.

I’d like to sign that Girona left back, Miguel Gutierrez. 29 mill release clause.

Center mid please. Jones while coming into his own will inevitably get injured. Szobo will run himself into the ground again, and Macca already looks shattered/playing with a knock. Gravy can’t be asked to play every game. It was obvious we needed one all summer.

You think we'd buy three players mid season?
I don't think we would, but it's what I'd wish we'd do.

We could be in a very strong position in Jan and we should be consolidating that

Quick contract negotiation that hikes his pay and removes the clause.

Can't remove the clause in Spain. They could increase it in a new contract but you'd think they would have done that already given the interest since the summer. Real Madrid have a buy back clause as well, so it probably doesn't matter.

I can understand the logic behind that but it's not applicable to us. This team could still be challenging for major honours for the next 2-3 seasons, especially so with 1-2 strategic player updates.

Yeah i guess i mean cut deep on the maybes.

Lots of keeps that is like 7-8 of our team for next 2-3 years

The GKs, Ibu, Virgil, Gravy, Macca, Jones, Diaz, Mo

If we are thinking of upgrading full backs, centre forward or even a wide forward I’d advocate going big as soon as the right players are there versus one a season. With the latter you risk entering the decline of Virgil, Mo and needing even more upgrades.

Another CM to rotate with Gravenberch and Macallister is the priority. They've played a ton of minutes already, and if our title march is to be de-railed, I think it's from an injury at CB or CM.

Zubimendi would do nicely.

LB is a position to address in the summer. We need a long term solution there, but Robertson and Tsimikas are perfectly capable of handling the next 6 months, with Gomez there as well in case of emergencies.

CF is obviously an issue with Nunez's complete lack of goals, but I don't think we can address that in January.

LB, CF and CB for summer basically, and a CM on priority in January.

Rather not have Zubimendi. Man obviously lacks ambition.

Have to say I'm amazed there's only 2 votes for a CB given a vast number were calling for 1 in the summer and taking into consideration there's been no movement on Virg and the manner in which Arne has used/treated Quansah.

I'd argue 2 CB's would be a must if the unforgiveable happens and Virg decides in Jan he'll be off in the summer.

Well, this is a thread for Jan wishlist, no? Virg isn't leaving in Jan.

The big risk, as I said earlier in the thread, is from injury. We have Gomez and Quansah to cover. It'd be worth considering a move if a primary target is available but the biggest risk is in midfield.

Id like a consistent alternate goal threat. We have Salah, but if he goes off the boil we're slightly toothless in creation and finishing (as Salah has done the bulk of that for us).

Even a blag version of what united did by bringing in cavani or ibra; someone who at the very least is fit and can score. No clue who that would be however

Its a minor ankle injury, so probably only a few games. But Slots presser is this afternoon and he'll give an update.

Ah fuck. I guess we will see some of Gomez then.

Sad to say but my hope for Robertson regaining form with managed minutes is fading. Or rather, he's fading.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I'm fine with Robbo, we just need to keep him fresh. He had two grueling 90 min games with Scotland before the game against Southampton.
If we manage his minutes he'll be fine.

That's fine, but it's why I don't like reading tsimikas is injured going into a very congested period.
