Agree with absolutely everything - except Trent. It wasn't that it was a difficult situation for him, it's that when the ball and player went past him he simply jogged around like he was off to feed the ducks in Stanley Park. He had 5m on that runner and yet was soon 5m behind him by the time he turned .. and then jogged. What a difference some fresh faces make. We still had a couple of occasions where we got sliced open (I miss Hendo dearly!) but there was a lot more passion & intensity on the pitch.
Matip - his runs from the back make such a difference, it adds to the 'unpredictability' I have been harping on about. He also added to our aerial threat. If Konate was forward for all those set pieces he would have had a hat trick!
Tsimikas - he was excellent. Definitely my MOTM. Some excellent defensive work and he carried the left side on many occasions allowing Diaz to move more central. His set pieces were on the money too.
Trent - I'm not convinced he's hugely at fault for the goal as the passer wasn't pressured and a CM should have been tracking the runner too. He was between a rock & a hard place. A CB with pace (Gomez or Konate) probably would have covered but that isn't Matip's game. Consistency of line up will help this, along with having a CM who is sharper on the press (either Elliot improving this side of his game or by Hendo/Arthur moving into that role)
Thiago - we've missed him immensely. He has it all and what a huge loss it was for the first 6 games.
Jota - he made such a difference to our forward line. His composure with ball to feet is great, his two-footedness is refreshing when watching every attack down the right be a 'cut inside' job from Mo & Harvey. He makes great runs off the ball, finds space. For now this is my preferred front three whilst we find form again.
Nunez - made a good impression after coming on. His best work was in the channel and running on the ball. He should rotate for Diaz and not for Jota/Bobby IMO whilst he settles in. His first touch is still lacking but I suspect he's nervous after his red card hiccup so early on.
Going forwards the CM role is the only change I would consider. Elliot would be great against a parked bus but teams who like to hit us on a transition expose some of his weaknesses. Hendo should slot straight back in here. I also believe Robbo should have to earn his place back. The rest and the competition will do him good, just as Tsimikas' performance did us good yesterday.
If i have a girl i'm naming her Joelle
Shay, we're not talking about sucking the guy off......just his voice.
I think Darwin's a sexy cunt, doesn't mean I wanna accidentally see him naked in the dressing room one day.
Let's call a spade a spade here like ya know wha'am sayin'.
Sincere apologies, if came across all homophobic, that was never my intentenion it was a light hearted reply never intended to offend.
Speak for yourselfShay, we're not talking about sucking the guy off
Well I can't say I wouldn't be temped if he didn't ask me.....Speak for yourself
I was watching the highlights and realised TAA lost his man on the blind side again. The Danny Blind header which flashed just past the far post.
Can't any of our many assistants point that out to him and get him to improve on this aspect of his game? It's just glaring how he does it game after game.
He arrives at the scene, but he has no awareness of who is around him or who he has to mark, he is just jogging along watching the ball getting played to the far side and by then it's often too late since he is not close enough to do anything.
It's a pity because he does get back, but while he is there, he does nothing but ball watch most of the time. He will be so much more complete as a defender if he just does the basics. It's been costing us for a long time. Right now the costs well outweigh the benefits of charging forward
That’s an over simplistic analysis that misses out the fact that he was forced to move inside and cover the more central opponent behind Matip (as any full back would have to do), whilst it would have been the right midfielders role to cover Blind’s into the space behind him.I was watching the highlights and realised TAA lost his man on the blind side again. It’s easier to follow the narrative and blame Trent for everything. That’s an over simplistic analysis that misses out the fact that he was forced to move inside and cover the more central opponent behind Matip (as any full back would have to do), whilst it would have been the right midfielders role to cover Blind’s into the space behind him.
Where was Elliott? Or Salah even?
For the Blind header he wasn't marking either! He was plumb in the middle with 2-3m to both. Had the ball gone to the player in front he'd still have been lost. He didn't react by moving forward or back. He just ball watched. It’s easier to follow the narrative and blame Trent for everything.

Watch Matip/van Dijk/Tsimikas/Thiago. Look at the mistakes they made to create that chance. But it’s easier to blame Trent. For the Blind header he wasn't marking either! Not the point. 2 wrongs blah blah. This is about what he did wrong at the critical moment - not anyone else. This isn't a one off for him. He's doing it every game. As a TV commentator said - his brain isn't engaged.Watch Matip/van Dijk/Tsimikas/Thiago. Look at the mistakes they made to create that chance. But it’s easier to blame Trent.
True. But that doesn't negate his poor positioning. He shouldn't have to deal with 2 players. He needs more help
Eh? Nunez was poor when he came on. His first touch was heavy and horrible and a couple of times gave the ball away with short passes back to our players that went no where near the intended player . Yeah should definitely should have scored.Nunez, while nothing spectacular, did create a few chances and arguably should have scored.
He's slowly getting up to speed and I like it. Just hope he keeps improving.
It’s not about two wrongs. It’s about shifting responsibility to Trent. No fingers are being pointed at all the others who contributed to the chance. It’s going all in on Trent. It’s boring. Tedious. And wrong. Not the point. 2 wrongs blah blah. This is about what he did wrong at the critical moment - not anyone else. This isn't a one off for him. He's doing it every game. Errr dude you always need to get permission. If matip ever goes missing we know where to go first. Hopefully the site keeps a log of all ip addresses....Well I can't say I wouldn't be temped if he didn't ask me.....
Is it wrong match after match? His shortcomings have been dissected by all and sundry and he wouldn't be getting that attention if he was tactically alert. It’s not about two wrongs. You do have to admit he is a lazy arse defender. It’s not about two wrongs. It’s about shifting responsibility to Trent. No fingers are being pointed at all the others who contributed to the chance. It’s going all in on Trent. It’s boring. Tedious. And wrong.
