Agger Handball

No, he would have had us 2-0 down by that stage so a penalty would have been inconsequential.

Here's a factoid - Agger and Lucas are the most overrated players playing in critical positions in our first team. I find it very worrying that we've shown no signs of wanting to replace them in the first team. This talk of a title challenge 2-3 years hence won't ever come to fruition unless we have a stable core of top class, consistent players in five-six central positions - GK, LCB, RCB, DM/CM and one central attacking player.

That, and rotatable quality options in the other attacking positions.

It's been the basis of every title challenging side in the league since the last 15 years.

A core containing Agger and Lucas has never been in the top 4, so you see where I'm going with this.

Very poor mistake from Agger and boy Mignolet's save was vital.

Otherwise had a great game alongside Touré apart from the last ten when Kenwyne Jones bossed him in the air.

And that's the most important thing as of now imo, there's a potential great partnership in Touré and Agger, and despite the latters apparently Seasonal error against Stoke he is perfectly well suited for a top 4 team.

PS Had Stoke equalized Agger would've been torn apart on here so I am not sure he's treated any differently than Skrtel, he just got a lucky break is all.

Yeah but if he hadn't handballed then Ming wouldn't have made that save and they wouldn't have all celebrated like crazy and had loads of manlove all night, and I wouldn't have spent all afternoon feeling like that bird in the gif thread had just sucked my gooch.

So really, Daniel Agger saved Christmas.

I don't think he got a lucky break, I think he got a bit of an unlucky break. The arms always go up in that situation. I doubt you could deliberately get the ball to hit the arm like that if you tried. It's not as if Agger routinely hand balls the way Skittles loses the ball, pushes over opponents or gets caught out of position.

If Walters connects with the ball it doesnt hit the arm but it was crazy challenge.
It happened cause he was caught out and tried desperatly to get a challenge in.

Ming saved the penalty, the roof went off at Anfield, the players got a collective boost and most fans left the stadium and turned off the tv thinking we had turned a corner. Winning a game we'd most likely have drawn these last few seasons.
So in the end, a pointless thread as it turned out ace! Fuck the handball!

Yes, let's forget about a stupid error by our first choice centre back in the first game if the season, because we had another player who covered for his fuck up

I don't think Agger had a great game at all. He lost out on most of the aerial duels. As for the pen I thought he was unlucky, you could see it was just part of the motion of trying to volley it out. Definite pen though.

This is most definitely NOT a pointless thread.

Three things;

1. When the ball is coming in, Agger is looking at the ball

2. As it gets closer, he inexplicably puts his left foot up and his head down. By doing that, its almost physically impossible to keep his right arm down by doing this. However, his head has now turned to be side-on with the ball i.e. he cant see it.

3. When its handled, his head is now facing our goal.

In the last minute of a game when defending a 1-0 lead, he showed absolutely no courage in trying to contest the ball with Jon Walters. He ended up not looking at the ball and used a defensive tactic that an amateur player wouldn't do. There is no escaping it, for all Aggers qualities, he is nowhere near good enough in the air unfortunately.

It was obviously said with tongue in cheek as the feeling after the game was such a good one.
A player making a mistake isnt something new and he was unlucky. If we're going to start a new thread for every mistake made by our players this season it will be a lot of threads in the end.

Playing Stoke you're bound to get these situations in the box as they're extreme on set pieces.

I didn't think we'd start the season with Kolo being our best centre back, but he is. Sad state of affairs.
If Barca offer 20 odd mill for him, even at this late stage, I'd sell him. It's not like there's not other better CB's out there for that sort of money. Barca want a fancy pants CB that can play the ball, pass, run up the field. We just one that can fucking defend properly.

Wasn't in Agger in the side that finished 2nd in the league?

Exaggeration both ways really, he made some crucial challenges but it was a daft moment that nearly cost us. Let's put it down to early season rustiness, like said though, he makes mistakes, he injured himself the other week by fucking up. And yeah, if it was Skrtel (or Carra, eh Modo?), they'd have been crucified.

Actually I would have been hard on Agger too. But I'd definitely be a cunt about it, if it was Carra or Skrtel.

But simple fact is Agger is better than Skrtel overall.
Imagine if Glen Johnson made the mistake, would have been a forum meltdown...

This^

We win the first game of the season after a fair few seasons and people seem fit to pick on the the few mistakes. Some posters just likes a good moan...

No, read the stats, Skrtel played the majority of the season, Agger spent a large part of it injured/out of favour.

That's not what Dmish is talking about, he's basically saying that he didn't play.

Agger got 18 (15 starts) prem games in the league that season, Skrtel got 21 (20).

Also, in the 2006/07 season Agger played 27 (23 starts) prem games and we finished 3rd.

So what Dmish is saying is absolute tosh.
