Adam Lallana

Let's say Lallana gets those 53 goals in 6 seasons. How much extra is that worth? Not more than double surely? That's really his true value. Anything more is overpaying.

Rather than value him by the amount of goals he scores - which is all you have done - let's try to value him in terms of importance to the team. His 9 goals and whatever in assists this season is way more than Coutinho, Allen etc. have scored/made yet Allen cost 18M and wasn't bought for his goal-scoring, neither was Coutinho who we all love to death and whose value is surely now somewhere around 30M.

Lallana's importance to the team comes in a few flavours; a like for like for Coutinho when one is injured or off-form or we need to juggle the team due to the number of matches in a week (currently we are having to move Sterling inside and change the formation, neither solution being ideal); another scoring midfielder (that we are short of); another bona fide 1st teamer and another player of high technical quality who can go past players (i.e. perfect for the way we play) and to cap it all a player who works his balls off for the team (ditto perfect for the way we play).

We need squad depth of players of 1st team quality, now. Not a paltry bench with no options. No more Aspas', Borinis or anyone else of that ilk. Do we now think that every transfer window will be a Sturrdige / Coutinho one ? Where we pick up great players for a relative pittance ? The tone of the naysayers seems to be along this line of thought. We can't afford to gamble on 1:4 chances any more, we need those 1:2 players. More likely, or just as likely, to be a success as a failure. Nothing is a 100% guarantee, there have been enough huge name failures in the PL to know that. However Lallana looks to be mould-perfect for Rodger's LFC.

No he won't and I will put fifty quid on it - he will play central behind the forwards , and perhaps even deeper bursting into the box like Gerrard used to.

Exactly. I think we'll get Lallana (or A.N.Other if the bidding goes through the roof) AND Konoplanya (sp.), plus a LB and a CB and possibly another striker. 5 players at 10-20m a pop. Some in some out and 60m to balance the books.

We are all still on the same page here folks. We all want him but the inflated fee is a stumbling block for some.
Why don't we wait to see what our opening bid is before this thread descends into chaos.

Andy Ford wouldn't lead us astray. It isn't Dave we are talking about here.

Right. I've been dispatched here from RAWK HQ to order you to lock this thread RIGHT now! It's premature, superfluous and very, very, silly, and it's an absolute OUTRAGE that's been allowed to run on for so long. Don't you have any moderators in this wretched place?? Now shut it down - NOW - or I'm going to get very cross indeed, and, believe me, you will not like me like that!

He's the most exciting looking young player since Gascoigne... What is the fucking problem? Him in behind S & S with Raheem buzzing around as well. And some of you DON'T want this, if it's a few million over what you think is acceptable. Madness.

Absolutely. Do these posters forget how they were gnashing their teeth over the players we haven't signed because a few million here and there ? Dani Alves comes to mind for an 1-2M and of course Salah just recently for the same. Maybe Mkhitaryan for another 5M too if we'd have pulled our finger out of our arse ? He would have been superb in our team.

Everybody wants/loves a bargain. Well there's a price to be paid if you wait for that to happen. It could be a desperately high price - ref. 2009. And are we going to find the 5-6 bargains we need in this one World Cup Summer ? Are we like fuck.

Below the first two for sure.

I'm not sure below Willian at all, certainly not on this season or as how valuable he could be to our team. I'd currently put him in at #2 in that list though Willian has tremendous potential that's for sure.

Its like this:
Agility -25 is the peak usually.
Pace - in football it seems to be early twenties.
strength - peaks later and lasts longer.

Different positions require different amounts of those but for wingers and AM's I think the first two are of importance.

So don't buy wingers or AM's in their late twenties - unless they are the best in the world.

Yeah I'm not getting too worked up by a hypothetical transfer fee. I do want Lallana here though as I think he's great.

*Realises that I'm having a conversation with myself*

I think these types of debates often tend to see those who watch a lot of football on the continent on one side and those who don't on the other. "Fancy dan" foreign names get touted on one side and then scoffed at by the other.

That is not meant as a criticism towards anyone - there are points to attack on both sides - it's just an observation I find interesting and it appears to hold true in this case again.

As for Lallana, I don't think anyone is suggesting that he isn't a good player, he is, or hasn't just had an exceptional season, he has.

The problems stem from the knowledge that we can't just act like the other "big" clubs and slap 25M on the table for a player we want. If we get it wrong, there are repercussions. If City / Chelsea / Utd get it wrong, they just go and do the same again in the next transfer window. The result is that you look at the risks with a more careful eye.

That's all that's happening in this thread as far as I can tell (with the usual polarization in full swing).

Sorry @Mystic, but that the worst compositional effort on this site since @cochyn's infamous Mascherano song, though at least that had the redeeming feature of being fucking hilarious.
Right bitch, here's my second attempt.

2 Unlimited, No Limit

Lala, Lalalala, Lalalala, here comes Adam Lallana.

There's no limit to this Lallana guy, no defense too deep, no keeper to high.

It's going to be an instant kop classic...

The board would never pay Southampton £25 million for Lallana. Not gonna happen.

Is there scope for a Hey Jude chorus for Lallana?

Most definitely, it would be a perfect fit, however every cunt in the league singing Hey Jude at every chance for no particular reason has ruined the songs potential for me, the Arsenal fans are the worst, people say its a song for Giroud, but unless his middle name is Jude I don't get it.

Okay I've changed my mind. I don't want Lallana if it means we're getting songs like this.

Oh yeah all these song pitches are taking the piss. Mystic will turn Anfield into a shite version of the Eurovision if some one his songs got an airing. 😉

Lallana 36 games
9 goals
6 assists

Coutinho 31 games
6 goals
7 assists

Joe Allen cost £15 million

Okay, scratch everything.

Put Lallana to the tune of 'The Hot stepper'.

Here comes our midfield (lallana)
He's a midfield maestro (lallana)
Excuse me Mr Ferguson (henderson)
Just look at him ruu-uun (Henderson)
Here come phillipe, and he, threads the balls, with ease.
Then we have ster-ling, with his tricks and speed, never mind the fact, he has 8 kids.

I completely forgot the tune half way through

If we're looking solely at the numbers then fine, good point

Coutinho spends 20 minutes finding his feet, then he spends 20+ finding his passing boots, then he spends the rest of the game either being quite effective, or still finding his boots.

Lallana is quite good at being sensible with the ball and knowing when to release it

You guys wouldn't know talent if it slapped you in the face, or posted on an internet forum!

In the tune of Venus by Shocking blue or bananarama or whatever

He's English,
don't buy cause he's English.
He's a Downing, he's Carroll.
At your peril.

Adam Lallana, Adam Lallana, scores a goal from afar, like Carlos Santana playing guitar.

I'm a fucking legend at this.
