Just saying:

Player Age during move Transfer fee
Fellaini 25 yr old £27.5 million
Willian 25 yr old £30 million
Mkhitaryan 24 yr old €27.5 Million
Fernandinho 28 yr old €40 million
Toure 27 yr old £24 million
Modric 26 yr old £33 million

Negredo 27 yr old £24 million
Soldado 28 yr old £26 million

Personally more bothered about quality than age.

Torres 27yr old £50 million
Muwahhahaha!

lallana is not a 25m player. Id love to have him but not at that price. Plus we should be focussing on defence more than attack. we need better replacements for allen and lucas. Unlike the other clubs we cant afford to spend 25m on a player and get it wrong.

You did what? I didn't think that was possible.

Fuck.

Maybe I'm going to have to start reading the full post from now on.

Lol. I think I need to bold my last sentence "Personally more bothered about quality than age." too. Never did I say Lallana was worth 25m. 😵 Was more on the point of age (& peaking) vs. transfer fee which some touched on, thus the listing of all the ages as well as inclusion of "failed" signings.

Lallana is a good player coming off a great season. English, 25 and an attacking player = inflated fee.
I wouldnt pay 25 mill for him. 18-20 mill and its still to much imho. Southampton will get top dollar for him.

I agree with Dmish and there is a lot of talent out there just as good or better that we can get.
Rumours about Mhyktarian being unhappy at Dortmund. I'd love to sign him. Double figures in both goals and assists in his first season in Germany.

Just been speaking to Ian Callaghan and Jimmy Case , who's opinion I would value , certainly more than a few on here. Casey said we should have got him two years ago and he is a fantastic talent , he still lives in the South coast and has a bit to do with Soton., Cally agreed and guess what at £25m thought a good buy.

Gary Gillespie said that Charlie Adam could be better than Alonso.
Carra said that Andy Carroll and Suarez could be our new Toshack and Keegan.

Don't believe the hype.

You really should stop this Ryan-lite bullshit persona you've adopted since coming back. You're full of valid and legit points I enjoy reading. Please just stick to that.

I agree that a better price tag for Lallana would be about £18-20M (doubtful that price is available though), but we will rightly be targeting some attackin options this year. 14 first teamers means we need both defensive and attacking re-enforcements. I think one each of LB, CM, AM, ST, and then maybe a few squad options.

I'm a little disappointed with this Vlad's Quiff guy after all the hype this season.

He's like a more absurd version of Ross, with bigger holes in his arguments.

SWEEPSTAKE: What will be the page count of this thread on the day Lallana is announced by LFC (if he signs).

You might need to include a thread version number too.

People seem a bit grumpy today so in order of adding a bit of levity to the thread - I'll predict 56 pages and 3 separate threads before we finally sign Jay Rodriguez. 😗

Here is a picture of Adam Lallana to keep the thread on topic.

gerrard wanted curbishley over rafa. Point is just because a footballer or ex footballer says it doesnt make it any more valid.

I also remember Gillsepie commentating on our friendly against Valencia soon after we signed Downing and being nauseatingly complacent about how much better he looked than Mata.

'Abortion' 'Excrement' 'mumbo jumbo'. Do try making an argument. Or don't actually. I've covered all the bases I wanted to.

If you want to engage with it, read it again.

Excrement is a good word to describe a bad post, you have to admit that one.

I have made an argument, both times, i done the same with that other list and comparisons posted early on in the thread also, its more than a bit lame you say that actually, anyway its up to you whether you want to take notice or ignore it, some football fans are are so obsessed with pulling stats and lists out of their arses that you fail to get your head around someone that doesn't buy it.

All that really matters is if he is good player and good enough to make the step up and do well for us, if he does do well for us (he will, imo) then 99% of people won't give a shit about his price or the irrelevant stats of other random players like Leon Osman and Dirk Kuyt.

Also if we sign Lallana - half these players in these lists we will still sign anyway if we want them.

I can see where this might be going, you are right its probably better to knock it on the head now, apologies for being so blunt earlier but it has to be done sometimes even if it does piss people off - which it has many times!, haha.

Lads, at some point, you need to stop working based off some formula that nobody really understands, stop drawing imaginary lines in the sand based on "24 = good, 25 = past it, stop just jumping on what Rosco's yelling and just watch the lad play... He looks absolutely fantastic and he'd make us better. If we can get him, we should get him. It's gonna cost us, but that's 'cos he's fucking brilliant.

This, x infinity.

Funny thing with this is , there are lots of people on here I like and usually agree with, there are far less people on here I don't like and really do talk shite, and there are quite a few people on here I like but really do talk bollocks.
Then there is @Ryan - we don't get on, and never really have, I don't know why, we try and tolerate each other, it might be an age thing or a culture bit, but that doesn't matter, I digress. Ryan and I for all our differences usually agree on the major points, and this point seems to be no different , he for all his bollix is rarely wrong.

The problems stem from the knowledge that we can't just act like the other "big" clubs and slap 25M on the table for a player we want. If we get it wrong, there are repercussions. If City / Chelsea / Utd get it wrong, they just go and do the same again in the next transfer window. The result is that you look at the risks with a more careful eye.

This nails it for me.

I'd like us to sign Lallana but only at the right price.

Why is everyone so worked up over a signing like Lallana? (that we haven't even expressed interest in)

He's obviously a good player.
Whether he's worth it depends on (1) how much we'll pay (2) how much we really have to spend.
We don't know either so there's no point getting so upset about it.

So what do we do then old chum, what is our tactic in this, the biggest window we have ever been looking into? As rest assured it is, if we fall out of the club this year we may never get back in unless we are gobbled up by some Arabs or a Russian con-man.
Do we do what we usually do? Identify our targets, ask the selling club what they want, shake our heads, give a sharp intake of breath and offer half. At which point the sellers laugh, we flounder around increasing that offer over a 2 week period and Chelsea, Spurs, City , United or whoever come in and buy them. Brendan is then left scrabbling around for the scraps.
Yes we get lucky sometimes with a Coutinho here and there, but we really really can't take that gamble. We have important business to do.
I know any player is a gamble, but Lallana is as safe as you are going to get.
Yes maybe in reality he is a £15m to £20 tops player, but this market is not reality.
Listen to me on this one and trust me, we need to get into this window all guns blazing, do our business early before the WC starts and get out, that will mean paying over the odds, I really hop our owners and management will realise that.
