I think its time to acknowledge the performances Milner has been putting in lately. When he was signed there was a degree of skepticism about what he could bring to the team, a perennial 7 out of 10 player who was good but just wouldn't add anything special. For the most part those fears were proved right, at least initially as Milner seemed to huff and puff without a whole lot of end product. When Klopp came in there were more than a few that thought it might be bad news for Milner. I think its fair to say he has proven his doubters wrong in that regard, hes not only maintained his place but stepped up when we badly needed some midfield leadership over the last month delivering the sort of performances reminiscent of a late career Gerrard but with better stamina.

We had a thread the other day about the indian summer of Gary Mac who wrote himself into Liverpool history with a legendary derby performance. Well Milner didnt produce anything as eye catching as that infamous 40 yard free kick but he had his own derby moment tonight and proved hes easily the best free signing weve picked up since the Welshman. So looking beyond the next 4 weeks how do people see his career with us panning out now. Is he a nailed on starter for next season, certainly looks that way at the moment with Henderson crocked and Allen/Lucas never cementing a place. Hes only 30 and hasnt played that much football, he could have another 3 or 4 seasons of his best football in him.

The funny thing is with Benteke playing we barely ever crossed the ball into the box.

Now Benteke can't even get on the pitch and suddenly Milner is putting in beautiful crosses which we are scoring from.

It must be frustrating for the big fella alright but then Benteke is so stationary in comparison to Sturridge and Origi that hes simply easier to mark. To be honest Id forgotten about him completely until the camera showed him sitting there in his suit. He will likely get a run now Origi is out but he has got to do more to attack the ball in those situations, I cant remember the last time we scored so many headers. Just goes to show its really all about the quality of the delivery rather than simply having a monster in the air who can dominate centre backs.

Milner was easily our MOM. He showed up when it mattered and helped us to a 2-0 lead.
He's an absolute work horse. You can't expect any miracles from him, however you can always expect decent performances from him.
What I see in Milner is what I want from Henderson.
Milner doesn't hide during games.

He is lacking a little in speed so he tends to throw himself about to either get a cross over or just to tackle someone. He really thrashed himself quite abit in the progress, ending on the ground most of the time. You worry for him but he is always up the next moment. Top man.

He hasn't played tagt

Hasn't played that much football?

He's been playing first team football for nearly 15 years

I was always a fan of Milner so I was quite happy when he signed. He's a reliable, effective footballer and a quality player

The only surprise for me is that for a player who made a big deal out of being a regular starter in central midfield, and that being a factor in joining us, he has seemed less effective there, almost as if the extra space and options available overwhelm him, and he is wasteful

He's been a superb by IMHO. Apart from the absurd routine he goes through with each corner ('Tee-hee-hee, I'm sneaking the ball outside the arc,' then he hits the ball flatly at the forehead of the first man), he's been such a reliable player, and he's such a clever player he can adapt as time goes on to extend his time at the top. And as has been suggested, he's a fine Gary Mac-style influence on the younger players.

I've always been a big fan since his days at Newcastle, on the face of it he was greeted with groans from the usual suspects on here that he was mediocre, a bit of a lazy assumption because of his industry and his productivity being a result of good old fashioned graft. I think myself, Ryan, Brendan, Modo and a few others had often said he'd be a good signing, for quite a few years. He's a proper Liverpool player.

I am happy with Milner, although I can't understand why he is still being allowed to take corners. During the Dortmund match at Anfield the crowd were actually booing every time he went over to take a corner, and it's very rare for the Anfield crowd to boo their own players.

Like I said, it will all sort itself out when he starts hitting them with his left foot.

I think a perennial 7 out of 10 player is pretty hard to find, and is under appreciated in my mind.
You can win the league by having a bunch of them.

I like players like Milner. Nothing flashy about him, he's just a good solid pro and teams need selfless players like him or they're going nowhere.

Yep. I was one of that group too and IMO he'll continue to have a very important part to play throughout the changes Klopp will now be making.

He was disappointing for me on the whole for the 1st half of the season but had improved a lot in recent months.
Hopefully he can maintain the level he's shown in the last month
