Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Replay on 434 now for anyone who wants to see the greatest Liverpool winger since John Barnes.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Liverpool’s new number 7 and it is not Suarez

Liverpool have a new, bright and exciting number 7 and it is not Luis Suarez! He goes by the name of Raheem Sterling. Sterling stared in the FA Youth Cup on Monday as Liverpool U18s raced into the quarter-finals with a commanding 9-0 win over Southend United at Anfield.

Liverpool have recently signed Luis Suarez and he has been given the legendary number 7 shirt and I am sure Suarez is going to live up to the expectations that come in wearing the number 7 at Liverpool. Sterling is also wearing the famous number 7 for the Liverpool U18s, and he is doing it with great acclaim. With two great number 7’s at the club right now, what a joy, after we had been starved for quality number 7’s for a while.

This was a big game for the Liverpool youngsters as they got a chance to play at Anfield and in the stands were the Liverpool coaching staff comprising of Dalglish, Clarke and Lee. So that alone gave the players the chance to show themselves and they did not disappoint, namely Raheem Sterling who scored 5 goals in that romp.

Sterling is an unbelievable talent and his display yesterday just went to show that. Liverpool beat a host of Premiership clubs to sign teenage sensation Raheem Sterling from QPR in 2010. Sterling has been dubbed as the “next Theo Walcottâ€, the wonderkid has signed a contract until 2014 with further instalments being paid to QPR if the youngster breaks into the first team. And by the look of him, I do not think it will be long until he breaks into the first team even though he is still only 16 years old.

Liverpool have a great talent on their books right now with Sterling and I am sure he is going to be nurtured well by the management team at Liverpool. Knowing Dalglish, he is not going to rush him as he continues to mature as a player. He has all the pace, skills and trickery that he needs but he will need to build up physically which will happen as he is still growing.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

That was some performance right there.

Anyone else see Sterling's striking resemblance to good ol' Digger?

The way he runs at full pace with the ball close to this feet, his tricky feets and clever finishes certainly made me dream of a new Barnes that's for sure.

*keeps fingers firmly crossed*

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

I was thinking who the hell is Rahem, then realised it was sterling. I've been very impressed with this guy since the crystal palace game, and I think it's him, and not Suso, who has the biggest chance of making it. Suso, despite being very good, likes the run down rabbit holes far to often, if he can sort that out he'll be a winner. Sterling is looking really close.

no, i think suso will definitely make it as well. his vision, long and short passing, close control, and dribbling are all of the highest quality.

I'm almost 100 pct positive that Suso will make it as well.

His game-intelligence and first touch is almost in a league of its own already. Unless his overall development will be mared by injuries or his progress suddenly stagnates he'll be a tremendous player for us in years to come.

Early indications suggest the same could very much be the case with young Sterling.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Suso is fantastic and is as close to a certain top class player from the academy as you'll get.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Yep, it's certainly not one or the other.

Suso is an exceptional talent, a born natural if ever there was one. He's got wonderful vision, passing range, touch, close skill and is stronger than he looks (low centre of gravity with those short, stocky legs). He's also just got that something extra, an arrogance on the pitch borne of being comfortable carrying the weight and expectation of his blessed talent.

Sterling is all pace, trickery and confidence; A real handful.

Both very different talents (think elegance v directness), but equally promising in their own ways.

I'd be gobsmacked if either one of them fail to become 20m+ talents.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Well, how many have we actually had? I don't count McMoneyman BTW, never a true touchline-hugger with chalk on his studs.

Oncy- "Best Liverpool winger since John Barnes".

Really ?
[/quote]

if you take steve macca out of the equation our wingers since barnes have been shite.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

suso just has that touch of absolute class. real vision and sees the entire pitch (a rare gift).
raheem is direct has pure pace but goes past people with skill rather than booting the ball past them and then doing them for pace.

raheem will probably find it easier to break into the first team (giving our shocking options in wide positions) but imho suso that something special but has more competition as there are lots of options for the second striker/attacking midfeilder role.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

We haven't had any players breakthrough since Gerrard, Carra, Fowler and Owen.

I don't count Spearing because he is not a regular and Kelly is cementing his place. Sterling, Suso and there's a few others who could make the grade. Our youth, academy and reserve teams have some outstanding talent. I do expect a bright RED future full of home grown talent.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

the upside is if we are producing stars ourselves then the money we would normally have spent on several positions we can instead spend on a couple of world class players

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

What worries me about these upcoming youths is that in 2 years time:

A: We'll have a £20 Million player playing their position (Kelly vs Johnson)

B: We might have a manager that won't give them a chance. (Obv not KK)

C: An average foreign player will be preferred to the average kid (Mark Gonzales vs Adam Hammill)

D: We'll have too many "good" players in one position (Wilson vs Carra, Agger, Skrtel and Kyrgiakos)

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

I'd say Kelly has most definitely broken through by now, Roland.

He's class and here for the long haul. Given glenjos defensive frailties I imagine it's only a matter of time before England give him a fair crack of the whip too.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Suso will never get the time and space to do what he does best in the Premier League.

That is why out of the two I think Raheem will make the grade faster and seamlessly too. Raheem's game is more suited to the EPL.

Suso has to learn to beef up his game and add a bit of pace to it. His positional play is also a little suspect. While he has that rare talent of vision, he has to learn when to keep things simple and pass it quickly as well as when to make those Hollywood passes.

Learn from Fabregas.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

Modo it's not really Been a case of not giving talented youths a chance.

We've hardly missed out have we, if rafa were here now in sure we'd be in a similar position, ditto woy.

It's not as if we've been sacking off players of suso and stirlings abilities, we've been sacking off shite.

Case in point glenjo has been pushed out to the left whilst Kelly takes his slot.

I'm confident that quality will out and the likes of the above will get a go here and not end up at hull.

Although, Why has it gone so quiet on the Pacheco front?

I wonder how long that will last and it was thanks to KK.

KK clearly doesnt have any faith in Pacheco.

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

So, McKnackers wasn't a winger and this 16 year-old kid is the absolute best in over 2 decades ?

Woo hoo !

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

It would be nice if we got a bagful of youth players coming through at the same time. Remember when the Mancs had the Scholes, Giggs, beckham and Neville generation all come through at the same time. 'You win nothing with kids', Hansen famously said before they went on to win the league.

Maybe For Scholes read Suso, Giggs read Stirling etc. Bout time we had our own golden generation!

Of the youth team Ive seen Suso looks miles ahead. I've not seen Stirlings goals yet but what I've seen of him in the past had me thinking he was going to be Rual Fox good rather than John Barnes good...though I expect I might start looking at him as potentially world class if he is as good as you say.

Pacheo has never floated my boat when I've seen him. Few nice touches but i dunno about him. Kenny is supposed to rave about the 18 year old right back, think his name is Flannigan?

Re: Raheeeeeeeeem

am surprised some people still haven't seen the goals, goto footylounge and search 'raheem sterling southend' for the obligatory MKB video.

Suso is at the age where he should be trying to be ambitious with the ball, cultivating the 'hollywood pass'. Part of the reason clubs produce so much dross is that they get players to play without risk rather than try the audacious. At this level it is exactly about taking risks, and Suso's vision and ability to act on it is extraordinary.

I would also say he has already shown he's a wee master at finding space and negotiating his way out of situations where he has several players on him (a skill that few are blessed with). We shouldn't be training all our midfielders to play like Lucas, for God's sake.
